The Junk Pits are finally open, but the game doesn’t exactly point you straight there. I spent a while running around before realizing I was missing one progression requirement, so if you’re stuck wondering why the entrance won’t work, here’s what you actually need.
How to Find Junk Pits in Pilgrammed (Sunset / Ex Machina Update)
You can’t enter the Junk Pits on a fresh character.
Before the NPC will let you in, make sure you’ve completed these requirements:
- Reach Soul Level 8
- Defeat Highway Son
- Defeat Calden
- Finish the required conversation with Erika (or the related quest NPC)
If even one of these is missing, the entrance stays locked.
Morning Hollow Route
The easiest way I found was starting from the normal spawn and heading toward Morning Hollow.
Once you’re there, stop worrying about the map. Just keep following the wooden planks on the ground. They’re basically the game’s way of guiding you through the area.
One thing to avoid is the nearby boss path. It’s easy to wander into it if you’re not paying attention, but that’s not where you need to go.
If you stay on the plank trail, you’ll eventually reach the correct destination.
Village of Rain
Eventually you’ll arrive at the Village of Rain.
If this is your first visit, it’s worth activating the spawn point before doing anything else. It’ll save you a long run if you die later.
Near the village you’ll find the NPC responsible for sending players into the Junk Pits.
Locked Entrance?
The first time I talked to the NPC, I couldn’t enter either.
Instead of opening the new area, the game simply listed the requirements I was still missing.
That was the clue that I needed to go back and finish the remaining bosses first.
So if nothing happens after talking to the NPC, don’t assume it’s bugged. Double-check your progression.
Defeat Calden
After clearing the missing boss requirement and returning to the Village of Rain, the dialogue changed immediately.
This time the NPC finally opened the way into the Junk Pits.
If you’re following the update in order, this is usually the last major requirement before the new zone becomes available.
First Trip Underground
Once the entrance opens, you’ll be dropped into the Junk Pits for the first time.
The update immediately introduces new objectives, including recruiting a blacksmith and beginning the area’s main questline.
Don’t expect everything to unlock right away. This is only Part 1 of the expansion, so several systems continue opening as you progress.
Movement Helps
I managed without every movement upgrade, but getting there is much easier if you’ve already unlocked:
- Double Jump
- Climbing Claws
- Dash
- Glider (later in progression)
These aren’t always mandatory, but they make traveling through the update much faster.
My Advice
If you’re rushing to see the new content, don’t sprint straight to the entrance like I did. Check your Soul Level first, finish Highway Son and Calden, then head back to the Village of Rain.
It saves a lot of unnecessary backtracking and lets you jump into the Junk Pits as soon as you arrive.
