Zoe and Grizzbolt are the first Tower Boss you’ll face in Palworld, located inside the Rayne Syndicate Tower. Although the fight is intended for players around Level 10, Grizzbolt’s powerful Electric attacks and large health pool can easily overwhelm unprepared players.
Fortunately, bringing the right Ground-type Pals, weapons, and strategy makes this battle much easier.
How to Beat Palworld 1.0 Zoe and Grizzbolt Guide
| Boss | Zoe and Grizzbolt |
|---|---|
| Recommended Level | 10–15 |
| Element | Electric |
| Weak Against | Ground |
| Location | Rayne Syndicate Tower |
| Coordinates | (111, -431) |
Grizzbolt deals heavy Electric damage and frequently targets both you and your active Pal. Since Electric is weak against Ground, bringing Ground-type Pals is the easiest way to gain a major advantage.
How to Beat Zoe and Grizzbolt
Reach at Least Level 10
Although the tower becomes available early, you should avoid challenging Zoe until both your character and your strongest Pal are at least Level 10. Players who reach Level 13–15 will have access to stronger weapons like the Crossbow, making the encounter significantly easier.
One of the fastest ways to gain experience early is by catching the first 10 of every Pal species, as each new capture grants a substantial EXP bonus.
Bring a Crossbow
The Crossbow is one of the best weapons for this fight.
Compared to the Old Bow or Three-Shot Bow, it deals significantly higher damage while remaining inexpensive to use. A well-placed Crossbow shot can deal hundreds of damage to Grizzbolt, allowing you to safely attack from a distance while your Pal holds the boss’s attention.
If you haven’t unlocked the Crossbow yet, the Three-Shot Bow is still a solid alternative.
Stay Behind the Pillars
The arena contains several large stone pillars that provide excellent cover.
Whenever Grizzbolt launches Electric projectiles or targets you with its tracking attack, simply position yourself behind one of these pillars. Most of its attacks will collide with the obstacle instead of hitting you.
During the fight, allow your active Pal to keep Grizzbolt occupied while you repeatedly move out from behind cover to fire Crossbow bolts before retreating again.
Using the pillars effectively dramatically reduces the damage you take throughout the battle.
Use Ground-Type Pals
Because Grizzbolt is an Electric-type Pal, Ground attacks deal increased damage while Ground-type Pals naturally resist many of its attacks.
Using Ground Pals not only increases your damage output but also allows them to survive much longer than other early-game companions.
Whenever possible, choose Pals that already know Ground moves such as:
- Sand Blast
- Stone Blast
- Stone Cannon
These abilities quickly chip away at Grizzbolt’s large health pool.
Teach Ground Skills with Skill Fruits
If your strongest Pal isn’t a Ground type, consider teaching it Ground-element attacks using Earth Skill Fruits.
Adding abilities like Sand Blast or Stone Blast gives otherwise neutral Pals an effective way to exploit Grizzbolt’s elemental weakness.
Use Ground Damage Partner Skills
Certain Pals possess Partner Skills that increase Ground-type damage while they’re in your party.
Combining these passive bonuses with Ground attacks allows you to defeat Grizzbolt much faster than relying on raw weapon damage alone.
Best Pals for Zoe and Grizzbolt
Gumoss
Gumoss is one of the easiest Ground-type Pals to obtain before reaching the Rayne Syndicate Tower. It naturally learns Sand Blast and Stone Blast, allowing it to exploit Grizzbolt’s weakness immediately. Its solid durability also makes it an excellent distraction while you attack from range.
Rushoar
Rushoar is another excellent early-game Ground Pal that can quickly pressure Grizzbolt with Ground attacks. Since it’s relatively easy to catch, most players can obtain one before attempting the tower.
Fuddler
Although Fuddler is commonly found inside nearby dungeons, it’s well worth capturing. In addition to Sand Blast and Stone Blast, it eventually gains access to Stone Cannon, a stronger Ground attack capable of dealing impressive damage during the boss fight.
Dumud
Dumud is arguably the strongest choice for this encounter. Besides learning powerful Ground attacks, its Partner Skill increases Ground-type damage, making every Ground attack hit even harder. If you can catch one before challenging Zoe, it becomes one of the safest and fastest ways to clear the fight.
Daedream
Daedream isn’t a Ground-type Pal, but it provides valuable passive damage once equipped with Daedream’s Necklace. This constant extra damage helps wear down Grizzbolt while your main Ground Pal tanks attacks.
Best Weapons
Crossbow
The Crossbow is the best overall weapon for this fight thanks to its high damage and excellent range. It allows you to safely damage Grizzbolt while staying behind cover.
Three-Shot Bow
If you haven’t unlocked the Crossbow yet, the Three-Shot Bow offers respectable damage and faster firing speed than the Old Bow.
Old Bow
The Old Bow is the minimum weapon recommended for this battle. While its damage is noticeably lower, careful positioning and enough arrows still make victory possible.
Best Armor
Feathered Hair Band
Provides a useful defensive upgrade early in the game while requiring relatively inexpensive crafting materials.
Common Shield
The Common Shield gives you an additional layer of protection by absorbing damage before your health is affected. This greatly improves survivability against Grizzbolt’s Electric attacks.
Tropical Outfit
The Tropical Outfit offers improved defense over your starting gear and is worth crafting before entering the Rayne Syndicate Tower.
Zoe and Grizzbolt Rewards
Defeating Zoe and Grizzbolt rewards you with:
- Character EXP
- Pal EXP
- 5 Ancient Technology Points
The amount of experience earned depends on your world settings, but the Ancient Technology Points are guaranteed and can immediately be invested into powerful unlocks.
How to Recruit Zoe and Grizzbolt
After defeating Zoe inside the Rayne Syndicate Tower, you can eventually recruit her later in the game.
Visit the Desolate Church, where Zoe will appear after the boss battle. Complete the objectives she gives you, and she’ll ask to join your adventure. Once recruited, Zoe and Grizzbolt can be added to either your active party or your Palbox.
Zoe and Grizzbolt Location
You can challenge Zoe and Grizzbolt inside the Rayne Syndicate Tower, located northeast of the Small Settlement.
| Location | Coordinates |
|---|---|
| Rayne Syndicate Tower | (111, -431) |
Before entering, activate the nearby Fast Travel Statue so you can quickly return if you need to prepare better equipment or stronger Pals.
Zoe and Grizzbolt serve as Palworld’s first major boss encounter and introduce players to the importance of elemental weaknesses and proper preparation. Bringing Ground-type Pals like Dumud, Fuddler, or Rushoar, using a Crossbow, and taking advantage of the arena’s stone pillars makes the fight considerably easier. Once defeated, you’ll earn valuable Ancient Technology Points and unlock the path toward recruiting Zoe later in your adventure, making this one of the most rewarding early-game battles in Palworld Version 1.0.
