Ascend to ZERO doesn’t explain every mechanic upfront, which means it’s easy to overlook some surprisingly useful features. While experimenting with the game, I found that a couple of simple tricks can make boss fights much easier and help you earn extra loot without spending additional battle time.
Neither of these tips requires rare gear or high levels, making them perfect for new players who want a smoother start.
Ascend to ZERO Beginner Guide Wiki – Boss Fights, Quest
One of the easiest ways to improve your survivability is simply changing your camera.
If you’re playing with a keyboard and mouse, use your mouse wheel to zoom the camera out as far as possible before fighting a boss.
A wider camera angle lets you:
- See more of the battlefield.
- Spot incoming attacks earlier.
- Dodge wide-area attacks more consistently.
- React to boss mechanics before they reach your character.
Many bosses have attacks that cover a large portion of the arena. When you’re zoomed in too closely, these attacks can feel almost impossible to avoid. Zooming out gives you much more time to react.
If you keep losing to the same boss, try adjusting your camera before changing your build—it often makes a bigger difference than expected.
Break Every Box You Find
Throughout each map you’ll notice small breakable boxes scattered around the environment.
Don’t ignore them.
Although they look insignificant, they can reward you with valuable resources.
Possible Box Rewards
Breaking boxes can drop:
- Experience (EXP)
- Money
- Weapons
- Equipment
- Skill Chips
- Zero Cells (premium currency)
Even if you’re already focused on clearing enemies, taking a few moments to destroy nearby boxes is usually worthwhile.
Use Time Stop to Farm Boxes
This is probably one of the most useful tricks for early progression.
After entering a battle, activate your Time Stop ability before exploring the map.
While time is frozen, you can freely move around and destroy every breakable box without using your limited battle time.
That means you can collect a large amount of loot essentially for free before continuing the fight.
This strategy is especially useful when you’re trying to improve your equipment without increasing the difficulty of combat.
Don’t Farm Boxes at Level 1
While the Time Stop strategy is excellent, it’s worth waiting a little before relying on it.
Instead of immediately farming boxes at the start of a new run:
- Fight enemies first.
- Gain a few levels.
- Then activate Time Stop and destroy every box.
Many players feel that better rewards tend to appear after you’ve progressed slightly, although this hasn’t been officially confirmed. Even if it’s only a perception, leveling first won’t hurt and may improve your overall loot quality.
Boxes Eventually Respawn
Breakable boxes aren’t permanently destroyed.
After enough time passes, they’ll reappear across the map.
If you still have plenty of time remaining during your run, consider making another full circuit around the map while using Time Stop again.
This gives you another opportunity to collect:
- Extra EXP
- More equipment
- Additional Skill Chips
- More Zero Cells
- Extra money
Repeated box farming can be a surprisingly efficient way to strengthen your character between difficult encounters.
If you’re just starting Ascend to ZERO, these two small tricks can make a noticeable difference. Keeping the camera zoomed out makes boss attacks much easier to read, while using Time Stop to clear every breakable box gives you a steady supply of gear and resources with virtually no downside.
They’re easy habits to build early, and they’ll continue paying off as you progress through tougher stages.
