Find Idol Taiga Near the Large Idols

You should start searching around these large Idols for the smaller Idol Taiga. It moves around the area, so you may need to look around carefully instead of expecting it to stay in one exact spot.
One important thing I noticed is that you do not need to interact with or talk to the large stone Idols for this taming method. They mainly help you identify the area where you should be searching.
Collect Fireflies
Once you find Idol Taiga, you will need Fireflies to tame it.
Fireflies appear around the area as small glowing lights. Walk up to one and hold the interaction button to collect it. You will need multiple Fireflies because feeding Idol Taiga once may not be enough to complete the taming process.
Keep looking around the area and collecting them whenever you find them.
Equip the Firefly on Your Rod
After collecting a Firefly, equip it on your fishing rod.
The method that worked for me was casting the rod in front of Idol Taiga and then walking close to it. Once you are near the companion, hold the interaction to feed it the Firefly.
The cast itself may not actually be required for the taming process, but this method successfully worked, so I recommend doing it this way if you are having trouble feeding Idol Taiga.
Keep Feeding Idol Taiga Until It Is Tamed
You will probably need to give Idol Taiga more than one Firefly.
If the companion does not become yours after the first few attempts, do not worry. Simply continue collecting Fireflies and feeding them to Idol Taiga until the taming process finally completes.
This means you should be prepared to spend some time gathering more Fireflies if needed. Keep repeating the process until you receive the Idol Taiga Companion.
