Crew and Vehicles are two choices you make from the same loadout screen, but they affect your run in completely different ways. Your vehicle decides the foundation of your build, including your available module slots, starting durability, movement, and overall handling. Your crew, meanwhile, provides a permanent passive effect that continues working throughout the run without requiring you to activate anything.
In this post, we will tell you everything you need to know about Crew and Vehicles in Wanderburg, including what each crew does, which ones are worth using, how vehicle slots work, and what happens when you rank up after defeating bosses.
If you are still learning the game, I would recommend paying closer attention to your vehicle choice before spending Silver. The vehicle can permanently limit which modules you can bring into a run, while the crew is more of a supporting choice that adds healing, damage, or extra income in the background.
Wanderburg Crew & Vehicles Guide – Unlock Requirement
We will also go through some important details that are easy to miss, including broken unlock descriptions, terrain immunity, vehicle rank upgrades, and why some upgrade choices are much better than they initially appear.
Crew
Every vehicle has exactly one Crew slot, which means you can only bring one crew unit into a run. There are currently six different crew options available.
Unlike other modules, crew members do not have an ability button or a triggered skill. They simply perform their job automatically on a timer for the entire run. This makes them very much a “set and forget” part of your loadout.
That can make Crew seem less exciting than weapons or active modules, but they can still make a noticeable difference depending on your build and the type of run you are doing.
Crew Never Get Specials or Legendaries
One important thing to understand before investing upgrades into Crew is that Crew units never receive Special or Legendary upgrades.
Other modules can normally reach important upgrade milestones, including a Special at level 5, a Legendary at level 10, and another Special at level 15. Crew members are completely excluded from this system.
So, do not keep upgrading a Crew unit because you are expecting a Legendary to eventually appear. It will not happen.
In most cases, you should level a Crew member to level 5 when it unlocks something you need. After that, your upgrades are usually better spent on weapon modules where the Special and Legendary upgrade paths actually exist.
Crew Roster
| Crew | Silver Cost | What It Does | Unlock |
|---|---|---|---|
| Carpenters | 800 | Slowly restores health over time | Purchase |
| Archer Crew | 1000 | Shoots nearby enemies with arrows | Purchase |
| Merchants | 1200 | Generates gold over time | Purchase |
| Canoneer Crew | 2000 | Fires cannon shots at close enemies | Purchase |
| Fire Crew | 2500 | Rains fire onto enemies | Purchase |
| Wizard Crew | 5000 | Fires magic projectiles at nearby enemies | Purchase |
Crew Stats
Damage is calculated per shot. Offensive crews fire their attacks whenever their timer completes, while Shots per Volley tells you how many projectiles are fired during that attack.
| Crew | Damage | Interval | Shots per Volley | Projectile Speed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Archer Crew | 5 | 2 seconds | 4 | 40 → 120 |
| Fire Crew | 5 | 2 seconds | 2 | 40 → 120 |
| Wizard Crew | 5 | 2 seconds | 4 | 20 → 120 |
| Canoneer Crew | 10 | 4 seconds | 2 | 40 → 120 |
| Carpenters | — | 8 seconds | 1 | — |
| Merchants | — | 5 seconds | 3 | — |
Only some Crew members have a range value that is actually used by the game. Those ranges increase as you upgrade them.
| Crew | Range by Upgrade Tier |
|---|---|
| Archer Crew | 50 → 65 → 75 → 90 |
| Wizard Crew | 50 → 65 → 75 → 85 |
| Fire Crew | 40 → 50 → 60 → 70 |
The Canoneer Crew, Carpenters, and Merchants do not have a published range value in the available data.
Archer Crew
Cost: 1000 Silver
The Archer Crew is probably the easiest recommendation if you are not sure which Crew to use.
It fires four shots dealing 5 damage every two seconds, giving it some of the best raw damage among the available Crew options. More importantly, it has excellent range, starting at 50 and eventually reaching 90.
It also costs only a fraction of what the Wizard Crew costs while offering very similar damage output.
The Archer Crew also unlocks the Archer Tower when you reach level 5.
If you simply want one reliable Crew member that works well in most situations, this is the one I would pick first.
Canoneer Crew
Cost: 2000 Silver
The Canoneer Crew fires two shots dealing 10 damage every four seconds.
Its total damage per volley is similar to the Archer Crew, but the attacks happen less frequently and deal their damage in larger chunks. This can make it feel more suited to tougher enemies rather than constantly damaging large swarms.
There is an important problem with its unlock description, however.
The quest says:
Reach upgrade lvl 5 for Cannon Crew to unlock Cannon Tower
“Cannon Crew” refers to the Canoneer Crew, but the reward does not actually give you the Cannon Tower. Instead, it grants Arms, a Side module that you can already obtain by levelling the Ram to level 10.
So, levelling the Canoneer Crew will not unlock the Cannon Tower. To unlock the Cannon Tower, you need to level a Cannon to level 10.
Fire Crew
Cost: 2500 Silver
The Fire Crew fires two shots dealing 5 damage every two seconds.
It has the shortest range among the offensive crews, starting at 40 and reaching only 70. Its main value comes from the fire effect it applies rather than its basic listed damage.
For the amount of Silver you spend, it is also the most expensive offensive Crew when compared directly to its listed damage.
There is also a strange data issue with its Legendary entries. The Fire Crew’s Legendary upgrade data points toward the Archer Crew’s Fire Arrows and Ice Arrows rather than showing unique Fire Crew content.
Normally, this should not matter because Crew members cannot receive Legendary upgrades anyway.
Wizard Crew
Cost: 5000 Silver
The Wizard Crew fires four shots dealing 5 damage every two seconds.
On paper, its attack pattern is very similar to the Archer Crew. It starts with 50 range and provides the same four-projectile volley, but costs five times as much.
The main reason to buy the Wizard Crew is its level 5 unlock: the Lightning Mage.
The Lightning Mage is itself one of the most expensive modules available, costing 10,000 Silver, so the Wizard Crew is mainly something you should work toward when you are specifically chasing that module.
You may also see confusing names in the unlock descriptions. The game can refer to this unit as Mage Crew, while the unlock may be called Electric Wizard. These names refer to the Wizard Crew and the Lightning Mage.
Carpenters
Cost: 800 Silver
The Carpenters deal no damage. Instead, they restore your health automatically throughout the run.
Their healing activates every eight seconds and continues for as long as the run lasts. This makes them particularly useful for longer runs and Endless Overtime, where small amounts of repeated healing can add up over time.
They are less valuable when you are playing a short, aggressive run where you are focused on ending encounters quickly.
One thing worth noting is that the shop description says HEALTH / 5s, but the actual interval used by the game is eight seconds rather than five.
The Carpenters also have a quest that says:
Destroy 100 health boxes overall to unlock Repair Crew
Repair Crew is another name used for the Carpenters. However, this quest is currently switched off and its reward points toward the Turret Layer instead of the Crew.
Because of that, do not waste your time farming health boxes for this unlock. If you want the Carpenters, simply buy them.
Merchants
Cost: 1200 Silver
The Merchants also deal no damage.
Instead, they generate gold every five seconds. Since gold is converted into Silver when your run ends, Merchants are mainly a farming choice.
They work particularly well with Kapitalistus Maximus, whose bonus multiplies the converted-gold portion of your final payout.
If your main goal for a session is earning Silver instead of pushing progression, the Merchants are the natural Crew choice.
They are also unusual because they have no Legendary upgrades in their own data. In practice, this does not change much because no Crew member can receive a Legendary during normal play.
Which Crew Should You Take?
For most players, I would recommend the following:
- Archer Crew as the general-purpose default.
- Carpenters for long runs and Endless Overtime.
- Merchants when your main goal is farming Silver.
- Wizard Crew when you are ready to work toward the Lightning Mage.
The Archer Crew is the simplest all-round choice because of its damage, range, price, and level 5 unlock.
Carpenters become more valuable the longer you stay alive, while Merchants are better when you are thinking about your end-of-run Silver rather than combat performance.
Just remember one important rule: no Crew will ever offer you a Legendary, regardless of how high you level it.
Vehicles
There are currently three vehicles in Wanderburg:
- Wanderturm
- Spiderburg
- Tankenburg
You may see references elsewhere to things like a starter wagon or desert chassis, but those are not the actual vehicle choices available here.
| Vehicle | Silver Cost | Unlock Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Wanderturm | 1000 | Starter |
| Spiderburg | 2500 | Beat all 4 bosses of Golden Dunes |
| Tankenburg | 5000 | Beat all 4 bosses of Dusky Pines |
Vehicle Slot Layout
The biggest difference between the three vehicles is not just their health or movement stats. It is their module slot layout.
| Vehicle | Top | Side | Front | Back | Crew | Captain |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wanderturm | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 |
| Spiderburg | 2 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 |
| Tankenburg | 1 | 1 | 2 | 0 | 1 | 1 |
A Side slot is a mirrored pair of mounts, meaning one Side module places weapons on both sides of your vehicle.
Regardless of the layout, every vehicle still carries four active modules on the ability bar.
The slot layout is what really determines your build options.
The Spiderburg cannot use Side modules at all and instead has two Top slots.
The Tankenburg cannot use Back modules. This means it cannot equip things such as Dash, Mine Layer, Catapult, Turret Layer, or Companion.
The Wanderturm is the only vehicle that can bring one of every major slot type into the same build.
That is a real advantage, especially while you are still experimenting with different combinations.
Wanderturm
Cost: 1000 Silver
The Wanderturm is described as a reliable all-rounder, and that description is accurate.
Its biggest advantage is the 1/1/1/1 slot layout. It is the only vehicle that can use a Side module, Back module, Front module, and Top module together.
It sits in the middle when it comes to durability but becomes the fastest of the three vehicles at rank 3.
The downside is terrain. Unlike the Spiderburg and Tankenburg, the Wanderturm is affected by terrain effects.
If you want the widest possible build options, this is the vehicle I would recommend.
Spiderburg
Cost: 2500 Silver
The Spiderburg unlocks after defeating all four bosses in Golden Dunes.
It has two Top slots and no Side slots, which immediately changes the type of builds you can create.
Its biggest strength is movement. The Spiderburg has the best turn rate in the game, reaching 20 at rank 0 compared with 17 for Tankenburg and 12 for Wanderturm.
It is also immune to terrain effects and its leg stomps can deal damage as you move.
The problem is its health.
The Spiderburg starts with only 50 HP and reaches 150 HP at rank 3, making it the most fragile vehicle in the game.
You should think of it as an evasion vehicle. Its handling lets you avoid danger more effectively, but you cannot afford to take the same amount of punishment as the other vehicles.
Tankenburg
Cost: 5000 Silver
The Tankenburg unlocks after defeating all four bosses in Dusky Pines.
This is the vehicle for players who want durability.
It has two Front slots, no Back slot, significantly higher health, and the largest Nitro pool.
At rank 3, it reaches 500 HP, compared with 150 HP for the Spiderburg.
The biggest limitation is its slot layout. Without a Back slot, you lose access to several useful modules, including Dash, Mine Layer, Catapult, Turret Layer, and Companion.
The shop description says it is slow to turn and accelerate, but the turning part is a little misleading. The Tankenburg actually has a higher turn rate than the Wanderturm at every rank.
Where it is genuinely slower is straight-line speed.
Another important detail is that the Tankenburg also ignores terrain effects, even though this is not clearly presented as one of its features.
Vehicle Base Stats
Wanderturm
| Rank | Max HP | Top Speed | Turn Rate | Mass | Max Nitro | Nitro Regen |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | 60 | 18 | 12 | 50 | 100 | 6 |
| 1 | 80 | 20 | 11 | 100 | 100 | 6 |
| 2 | 130 | 23 | 10 | 200 | 100 | 6 |
| 3 | 200 | 26 | 9 | 400 | 100 | 6 |
Spiderburg
| Rank | Max HP | Top Speed | Turn Rate | Mass | Max Nitro | Nitro Regen |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | 50 | 16 | 20 | 50 | 100 | 5.5 |
| 1 | 75 | 18 | 20 | 100 | 100 | 5.5 |
| 2 | 100 | 20 | 18 | 200 | 100 | 5.5 |
| 3 | 150 | 22 | 16 | 400 | 100 | 5.5 |
Tankenburg
| Rank | Max HP | Top Speed | Turn Rate | Mass | Max Nitro | Nitro Regen |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | 120 | 15 | 17 | 150 | 150 | 5 |
| 1 | 180 | 16 | 16 | 300 | 150 | 5 |
| 2 | 300 | 17 | 15 | 500 | 150 | 5 |
| 3 | 500 | 18 | 14 | 800 | 150 | 5 |
Reverse speed remains 12 for every vehicle at every rank, while Nitro consumption remains 10 across all three.
The overall differences are fairly clear.
The Tankenburg has roughly double the health of the Wanderturm at every stage, but sacrifices straight-line speed.
The Spiderburg is the weakest in terms of health but offers the best turning and terrain immunity.
The Wanderturm sits between them and provides the most flexible module setup.
Vehicle Rank Determines What You Can Absorb
Your vehicle rank is not just a stat increase.
A castle can only absorb enemy vehicles that are the same rank or lower than its own.
A rank 0 vehicle can absorb rank 0 enemies. At rank 3, you can absorb everything.
This is one of the main reasons boss progression matters. Defeating a boss increases your vehicle rank, allowing you to consume the next tier of enemy vehicles.
So the rank-up is not only about becoming stronger. It also determines which enemies you are mechanically able to absorb.
Spiderburg and Tankenburg Both Ignore Terrain
The Spiderburg is presented as the vehicle with terrain immunity, but it is not the only one.
Both Spiderburg and Tankenburg ignore terrain effects.
Water and other terrain effects do not slow or damage them in the same way.
The Wanderturm is the only vehicle that is actually affected by terrain.
So if you are using the Tankenburg, you do not need to avoid water simply because you think only the Spiderburg can move through it safely.
Vehicle Rank-Ups
Every boss you defeat gives you one vehicle rank-up.
You begin at rank 0 and can reach rank 3, meaning you receive three rank-up choices during a normal run.
Each rank-up gives you two cards:
- DEFENSE
- MOVEMENT
The bonuses are added on top of your new vehicle rank stats, and all previous choices continue stacking throughout the run.
Everything installed on your vehicle also carries over. You do not lose your modules when ranking up.
Wanderturm Rank-Up Bonuses
| Rank | DEFENSE | MOVEMENT |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | +75 HP, +1.5 top speed, +200 mass, +2 magnet | +6 top speed, +0.5 nitro regen, +15 max nitro |
| 2 | +125 HP, +1.5 top speed, +200 mass, +2 magnet | +6 top speed, +0.5 nitro regen, +15 max nitro |
| 3 | +175 HP, +1.5 top speed, +200 mass, +2 magnet | +6 top speed, +0.5 nitro regen, +15 max nitro |
Spiderburg Rank-Up Bonuses
| Rank | DEFENSE | MOVEMENT |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | +60 HP, +200 mass, +3 magnet | +8 top speed, +0.5 nitro regen, +10 max nitro |
| 2 | +100 HP, +200 mass, +3 magnet | +7 top speed, +0.5 nitro regen, +10 max nitro |
| 3 | +160 HP, +200 mass, +3 magnet | +6 top speed, +0.5 nitro regen, +10 max nitro |
Tankenburg Rank-Up Bonuses
| Rank | DEFENSE | MOVEMENT |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | +75 HP, −0.5 top speed, +200 mass, +2 magnet | +6 top speed, +0.2 nitro regen, +20 max nitro, +25 mass |
| 2 | +125 HP, −0.5 top speed, +250 mass, +2 magnet | +5 top speed, +0.2 nitro regen, +20 max nitro, +25 mass |
| 3 | +175 HP, −0.5 top speed, +300 mass, +2 magnet | +5 top speed, +0.2 nitro regen, +20 max nitro, +25 mass |
DEFENSE Is Not Always the Slow Choice
The names of these cards can be misleading.
You might assume that choosing DEFENSE always means sacrificing movement, but that is not true.
For the Wanderturm and Spiderburg, DEFENSE does not reduce your speed.
The Wanderturm’s DEFENSE option actually gives you +1.5 top speed alongside its health bonus. The Spiderburg also receives its defensive benefits without losing speed.
Every DEFENSE choice also adds a large amount of mass, which can be useful if you are relying on ramming.
The Tankenburg is the only vehicle that actually loses speed when taking DEFENSE.
Each DEFENSE pick reduces its top speed by 0.5, meaning three DEFENSE choices cost you a total of 1.5 top speed.
DEFENSE Gets Better as the Run Continues
DEFENSE bonuses increase at later ranks, while the Wanderturm’s MOVEMENT bonus remains the same.
For example, the Wanderturm receives:
- +75 HP at rank 1
- +125 HP at rank 2
- +175 HP at rank 3
Meanwhile, its MOVEMENT card remains at +6 top speed for every rank.
This means DEFENSE becomes increasingly valuable as the run progresses.
Three DEFENSE choices on the Wanderturm provide +375 HP, which is a massive amount on top of its rank 3 base health.
Spiderburg: Movement Early, Defense Later
The Spiderburg has an interesting progression.
Its MOVEMENT bonus becomes smaller at each rank:
- +8 top speed
- +7 top speed
- +6 top speed
Its DEFENSE bonus moves in the opposite direction:
- +60 HP
- +100 HP
- +160 HP
So if you are planning to take MOVEMENT on the Spiderburg, the earlier rank-up is where it gives you the most value.
DEFENSE becomes much more attractive at later ranks because the health bonus increases significantly.
MOVEMENT Is Your Source of Extra Nitro
If you need more Nitro capacity or regeneration, the MOVEMENT card is the important choice.
DEFENSE does not provide additional Nitro capacity or Nitro regeneration.
This makes MOVEMENT particularly useful if your build depends heavily on boosting or if you are using a Captain that reduces your Nitro regeneration.
When it comes to vehicle rank-ups, MOVEMENT is the only path that improves those Nitro-related stats.
Boss Kills Do Not Heal You
It can sometimes look like defeating a boss restores your health, but that is not actually what happens.
After killing a boss, you receive a short period of invincibility. Your health bar stops dropping, and then your rank-up increases your maximum HP.
Because the health bar becomes larger, it can visually appear as if you were healed.
You were not.
If you enter a boss fight with low health, you will still have low health after defeating it. You simply have a larger maximum health bar.
The only full heal available comes from the stationary repair fixture that you can drive into. Other healing sources, including health crates, only restore part of your health.
How to Choose Your Vehicle and Crew
Choose Wanderturm If You Want Build Flexibility
The Wanderturm is the best choice if you want access to the widest range of builds.
It is the only vehicle that can combine all four major weapon slot types, and its DEFENSE rank-ups are particularly strong because they do not come with a movement penalty.
Choose Spiderburg If You Prefer Avoiding Damage
The Spiderburg is built around mobility.
Its turning ability can completely change how you move around enemies, and terrain immunity gives you more freedom when choosing routes.
However, its low HP means you need to play carefully. At full rank, 150 HP is still extremely fragile compared with the other vehicles.
Choose Tankenburg If You Want to Smash Through Enemies
The Tankenburg is the obvious choice if you prefer durability.
It has massive health, two Front slots, the largest Nitro pool, and terrain immunity.
The trade-offs are also important. You lose the Back slot completely, have the worst Nitro regeneration, and DEFENSE upgrades are the only ones that actually reduce speed.
Final Recommendation
For most players, I would start with the Wanderturm because it gives you the most freedom when experimenting with different builds.
The Spiderburg is better when you are comfortable avoiding hits and want superior handling, while the Tankenburg is the choice for players who prefer durability and direct combat.
For Crew, the Archer Crew is the safest general recommendation. Use Carpenters for longer survival-focused runs, Merchants when farming Silver, and pick up the Wizard Crew when you are specifically working toward the Lightning Mage.
The most important thing to remember is that your vehicle determines the shape of your entire build, while your Crew quietly supports it in the background. Choose your vehicle around the modules you want to use, and then choose your Crew based on what your run needs most: damage, healing, or income.
