Residence Massacre Payback Walkthrough – Earn 2 Badges

Surviving Residence Massacre Payback requires strict room management and quick reactions while trapped inside your childhood bedroom until morning. The reworked Memory sequence shifts the gameplay from defending the entire house to monitoring threats attempting to enter through your bedroom doors, windows, and ceiling vents.

To complete the night, you must manage your light, close entry points the moment they creak open, and hide under your bed during direct monster intrusions. Surviving until 6:00 AM unlocks the completion badge and leads into the mode’s final story sequence.

Bedtime Objectives in the House

Before the night sequence starts, you must finish a quick set of domestic tasks on the ground floor. After watching the television in the living room, walk through the dining area into the kitchen to speak with your mother.

She instructs you to head to sleep, triggering the prompt to collect your teddy bear from the red sofa in the living room. Pick up the bear, walk up the main stairs into the upstairs hallway, and enter the bedroom to place Teddy on the chest of drawers.

Bedroom Hazards and Defense Mechanics

Surviving the night requires monitoring four distinct entry points while keeping an eye on the red digital clock on your desk. Each intrusion gives a clear audio cue or visual warning before the creature enters your room.

Threat Source Visual / Audio Clue Required Counter
Window Blinds raise up and the frame creaks open Walk up and click the window frame to pull it shut
Wardrobe Closet Closet double doors swing slightly open Interact directly with the door handles to close both doors
Ceiling Vent Vent grate above the chest of drawers shifts open Turn on the lamp and shine light toward the vent to deter the monster
Bedroom Door Footsteps approach and door creaks inward Crawl under the bed immediately and prepare to hold your breath

The bedside lamp toggles on and off with a mouse click. Keeping the room completely dark prevents the creature from spotting you easily from outside, but you will need light periodically to check the ceiling vent above the “WHALES” poster.

Surviving Under the Bed: Hold Your Breath Prompts

When the monster walks through your bedroom door or enters directly, white directional arrows appear on the floor beside your bed. Step toward the arrows to crawl underneath the frame and hide your character from view.

Once under the mattress, a prompt labeled “HOLD YOUR BREATH” appears on the screen alongside a randomized keyboard letter like [X], [G], [H], [U], or [B]. Press and hold the designated key to fill the bar and stop breathing until the monster’s legs walk past and leave the room.

If you release the breath key early or press the wrong button, the creature instantly detects you under the bed frame. Wait until the room goes completely quiet before crawling back out into the open.

Managing the Window and Ceiling Vent

Between 1:00 AM and 4:00 AM, the creature attacks through secondary openings around the room. Check your bedroom window often, as the frame frequently shifts open to reveal the creature crouching right on the sill.

The ceiling vent positioned above your dresser and trophy shelf is the hardest entry point to track. If you hear metal rattling, look directly up at the ceiling grate to see if white eyes are staring down into your room.

Shining your bedside lamp directly up toward the open vent forces the monster to retract back into the ductwork. If the creature refuses to leave or climbs out entirely, dive back beneath the bed and clear another breath minigame.

Interacting with your teddy bear on the side table plays comforting voice lines like “I love you” and “I love spending time with you.” This helps verify your interaction controls are active between creature visits.

Surviving Until 6:00 AM and Finding Mom

The digital clock advances through the hours until reaching 6:00 AM. Once the clock hits 6:00, your character remarks “It’s quiet again…”, confirming you survived the night and unlocking the Payback badge.

Moments after 6:00 AM arrives, a loud shatter echoes from the ground floor, replacing your objectives with “Find mom.” Exit the bedroom into the upper corridor, where fresh claw marks now gouge the hallway walls.

Walk down the stairs to the lower level and enter the back bedroom through the open doorway. Inside, a scripted ending sequence plays showing the monster hunched over Mom on the carpet before turning to jump out at the screen.

After the cutscene ends, the game awards 250 Coins on the summary screen. From here, you can select Retry to practice your defense timing or Leave to return to the lobby.

Challenge Badge 1: Thrill Seeker Walkthrough

The Thrill Seeker badge requires completing the entire Payback Memory chapter (0:00 to 6:00 AM) without closing any doors or windows.

That means your bedroom door, both wardrobe closet doors, and the window blinds must remain wide open for the entire six-minute run. Because you cannot use physical barriers to delay Barry, your survival relies strictly on a fast, uninterrupted room loop.

The Thrill Seeker Loop

  1. Silence alarms first: The moment the desk alarm blares, drop everything and click it off. With an open doorway and window, the alarm will summon Barry almost instantly if ignored.
  2. Top off sanity constantly: Sprint across the purple carpet to the chest and hug your teddy bear after every defensive event. Keeping the brain icon completely full prevents screen blur while Barry is roaming near the threshold.
  3. Bait Barry with light bursts: Click the nightstand lamp on for two seconds to scan the open doorway and ceiling duct, then click it off.
  4. Slide under the bed immediately: Because the door cannot be shut, Barry enters without knocking. Dive into the under-bed floor arrows the split second you see footsteps or shadow movement.
  5. Clear the breath QTE: Lock in the displayed key prompt (H, B, X, N, etc.), wait until Barry turns around and exits through the open hallway, and crawl back out.
  6. Repeat this rotation continuously until 6:00 AM rings out.

Challenge Badge 2: Burnout Walkthrough

The Burnout badge challenges you to beat the chapter while overheating and burning out the bedside lamp every single time you switch it on.

If you toggle the lamp off manually with a mouse click even once during the entire run, the badge fails. You must let the bulb overheat until it sparks, puffs smoke, and pops.

The Burnout Loop

Unlike Thrill Seeker, you are allowed to close the window, closet, and bedroom door during a Burnout attempt. Use these barriers to buy yourself valuable breathing room while the bulb burns.

  1. Hug the bear twice: Because letting the lamp burn out forces you to stand in total darkness while the bulb resets, top off your sanity meter twice before each light cycle.
  2. Silence the desk clock: Clear any active alarm bells before interacting with the light.
  3. Turn on the lamp and stand still: Click the bedside lamp on, then do not touch the light switch again. Stand beside the bed and wait approximately 5 to 7 seconds until the lamp sparks, emits smoke, and pops off.
  4. React to Barry’s arrival: Turning the lamp on draws Barry toward your room. If you hear him reach the door or rattle the ceiling vent while waiting for the bulb to pop, do not panic—wait for the pop to finish, then slide under the bed frame.
  5. Clear the breath minigame: Hold down the prompt key under the bed until Barry departs.
  6. Reset in the dark: Once Barry leaves, hug the teddy bear immediately to counteract the sanity drain from the blackout, latch your window and closet, and prepare for the next lamp burn.

Maintain this rhythm through 6:00 AM to unlock the Burnout badge alongside your 250 Coins.
