How to Get Hunter’s Chain Sickle in Phantom Blade Zero

Some items in Phantom Blade Zero are useful upgrades, while others completely change how you explore the world. The Hunter’s Chain Sickle belongs to the second group. This Phantom Edge gives Soul another combat option and lets him grapple to elevated points, opening routes that were previously out of reach.

You might notice inaccessible items or blocked traversal points quite early in Weeping Creek Valley. If you’ve tried reaching one of these spots and found that you need the Hunt’s Weapon, you’ll have to continue through the main story before you can return.

The Hunter’s Chain Sickle is tied to a major boss encounter near the end of Steel and Steam. In this guide, I’ll explain how to progress through the tower, reach The Hunt, defeat both phases, and start using the Chain Sickle to explore areas you couldn’t access earlier.

How to Get Hunter’s Chain Sickle in Phantom Blade Zero

You can obtain the Hunter’s Chain Sickle during the Steel and Steam chapter in Weeping Creek Valley.

It is a Phantom Edge rather than a regular primary weapon. This means it has a special role in combat and exploration, including grappling to certain elevated points.

You cannot collect it immediately after arriving in the valley. You must first progress through the story, clear the required encounters, and make your way through the Sha-Chi Tower route until you reach The Hunt.

Step 1: Progress Through Weeping Creek Valley

Continue through the main story after the opening encounter with The Hunt. Along the way, you will encounter Jagged Steel, the Frenzied Brute, and later reach the outpost.

Explore the area and activate the Bells you find. They provide useful checkpoints and make it easier to return to previous locations.

You will also encounter Peng Meng, the Axemaster. Defeating him rewards you with the Dread Axe, which lets you break chained barriers and open new routes.

Use the Dread Axe to continue through the main story and reach the eastern exit of the Axemaster’s Holding Cell. This leads into Steel and Steam.

Step 2: Reach the Sha-Chi Tower

Once you enter Steel and Steam, follow the main route toward the Sha-Chi Tower.

You will need to fight through groups of Maskwalkers and archers before reaching the tower’s interior. The Dread Axe is useful against shielded enemies and other opponents with strong defenses.

Activate the Bells along the way, particularly the Valley Sha-Chi Tower 1st Floor Bell and the Valley Sha-Chi Tower Summit Bell.

As you climb the tower, collect useful materials and Books if you want to complete more of the area’s exploration objectives.

At the summit, speak to the Watchful Shadow Warden. He will tell you about the Primal Stone and unlock the Tale A Severed Mindseal.

You do not need to finish this side objective to continue toward The Hunt, so you can return to the Warden later if you prefer to focus on the main story.

Step 3: Descend the Tower and Find the Route Forward

After speaking to the Shadow Warden, continue through the upper tower route and descend the ladder.

You will encounter another Shadow Warden along the way. Defeat him to obtain the Sha-Chi Furnace Inspection Crank.

Pick up the nearby materials and use the ladder shortcut to return toward the lower floor if you need it. You can use the crank at the tower’s furnace mechanism, but this is connected to an optional objective rather than the main route toward The Hunt.

Continue along the path toward the Waterfall Bridge Bell.

Clear the enemies near the Bell and collect any nearby upgrade materials before crossing the wooden bridge. Follow the cave path beyond it until you reach the Great Waterfall Bell, which sits just before the boss arena.

Rest and prepare your equipment here. The fight ahead has two phases, so make sure you have enough medicine and are comfortable with your weapon setup.

Step 4: Defeat The Hunt, Hunter of the Order

Activate the Great Waterfall Bell and approach The Hunt to begin the rematch.

This battle takes place on solid ground, giving you more room to move than during the earlier chase. However, The Hunt’s chain sickles allow him to attack from multiple distances, so you should be ready to dodge, parry, or retreat depending on the move.

Phase 1: Watch the sickle attacks

During the first phase, The Hunt uses regular sickle slashes, swinging attacks, long-range swipes, and special moves with red or blue flashes.

Here are a few tips to make the fight easier:

  • Regular slashes: Parry or block the standard combos, but watch your Sha-Chi meter.
  • Blue-flash leap: Prepare to parry as he jumps toward you, then follow the on-screen prompt if one appears.
  • Red-flash grab: Dodge when the thrown sickle approaches rather than trying to block it.
  • Long-range attacks: If he starts swinging widely around his body, create distance and prepare for the finishing strike.
  • Tornado: Move away when he begins spinning his sickles and gathering wind around himself.

The Hunt can be aggressive, but you do not need to remain close to him at all times. Create space whenever you need to recover or wait for a safer opening.

Phase 2: The Hunt, Sixfold Scythe

Once you deplete the first health bar, The Hunt restores his health and enters the second phase as The Hunt, Sixfold Scythe.

He gains additional arms and new attacks, including sickle projectiles, wider ranged slashes, chain attacks around the arena, and a ground wave.

Watch the direction of his attacks carefully. The projectiles move slowly enough to react to, but they can still catch you if you ignore them while trying to attack.

When he jumps toward the waterfall and summons chains, move away from the affected area. Prepare to parry when he returns to the arena with a blue-flash attack.

Avoid extending your combos too far. The Hunt can quickly punish you when his Sha-Chi meter refills, so prioritize survival over squeezing in one extra hit.

If you lose during the second phase, you can resume the fight from that phase rather than repeating the first. Use this opportunity to learn his new moves and adjust your timing.

Step 5: Claim the Hunter’s Chain Sickle

After defeating both phases of The Hunt, you will receive the Hunter’s Chain Sickle.

This Phantom Edge has two major uses:

  • Combat: It provides long-range combo options during fights and boss encounters.
  • Exploration: It lets Soul grapple to certain high points, opening routes to previously inaccessible areas.

The second function is particularly important. Several items and traversal points in Weeping Creek Valley cannot be reached until you obtain this weapon.

Step 6: Return for the Items You Couldn’t Reach

Once the Hunter’s Chain Sickle is yours, consider revisiting earlier areas before advancing too far.

You can use it to reach rooftops, elevated platforms, and other points that were previously inaccessible. This also lets you collect rewards tied to optional quests.

Find the Sha-Chi Tower Base Camp Gate Key

Return to the Valley Sha-Chi Tower Summit and climb the wall near the connecting tube.

Use the Hunter’s Chain Sickle to reach the previously inaccessible item and collect the Sha-Chi Tower Base Camp Gate Key.

This key opens the route needed to explore the eastern side of the area and continue the optional quest Deep in the Valley.

Look for Lingran’s Pendant

You can also return to the beginning of Weeping Creek Valley and use your newly unlocked traversal options to reach the chest containing Lingran’s Pendant.

This accessory reduces Sha-Chi consumption from Sha-Chi combos by 15%, making it a useful reward to collect while revisiting the region.

Search other high points

The Hunter’s Chain Sickle can help you reach additional materials and collectibles across Weeping Creek Valley. Revisit any locations where you previously saw a high ledge, inaccessible chest, or blocked traversal point.

You do not have to collect everything immediately, but backtracking is worthwhile if you want to strengthen Soul and complete more of the region’s side content.

The Hunter’s Chain Sickle is one of the most useful unlocks in the early part of Phantom Blade Zero because it improves both combat and exploration. You obtain it by progressing through Steel and Steam and defeating The Hunt at the Great Waterfall.

If you are trying to reach an inaccessible item in Weeping Creek Valley, keep progressing through the main story until you obtain this Phantom Edge. Once you have it, revisit earlier areas, collect the newly accessible rewards, and use the Sha-Chi Tower Base Camp Gate Key to open up more of the region.
