R.E.P.O. has received a massive update packed with new content, including a brand-new map, dangerous enemies, Mega Modules, useful shop items, and several hidden secrets. There are also plenty of changes to existing locations, giving players more reasons to explore areas they may already know.
One of the biggest additions is Sunstone Valley Resort, a new location filled with unusual rooms, dangerous obstacles, and valuable loot. The update also introduces Pony, a new enemy that can grab players and throw them around, making exploration even more dangerous.
There is plenty more to discover, including a special extraction challenge, new ways to get discounts in the shop, and a secret worth a huge amount of money. In this guide, we’ll go through the major additions and explain how the new mechanics work.
R.E.P.O. Sunstone Update Guide – Halloween Event, New Map
The Halloween update introduces new cosmetic changes and spooky effects throughout the game. You’ll notice Halloween-themed enemy appearances, different sounds, and pumpkin-related objects while exploring.
One of the most interesting additions is the Please the Moon challenge. This activity takes place around the extraction tower and gives your team another way to earn money from the valuables you collect.
How the Please the Moon Challenge Works
The objective is simple: stack your valuables until they reach the required height of the extraction tower.
Instead of simply placing everything inside the extraction area, your team needs to build a pile high enough to reach the laser. The challenge becomes more difficult when you have awkward or large valuables that are difficult to balance.
Golden pumpkins can also appear as rewards during this activity. They provide an additional payout based on the value of the valuables placed in the tower. The reward can be approximately 35% of the tower’s total value.
Keep in mind that the required height can change depending on the level, so don’t assume that the same pile will work everywhere.
Tips for completing the challenge:
- Start with larger valuables to create a stable base.
- Place smaller objects on top to increase the height.
- Avoid throwing everything into one unstable pile.
- Have teammates help position objects instead of everyone grabbing valuables at once.
- Check the tower height before wasting time rearranging your entire pile.
The biggest mistake is rushing the stacking process. A carefully arranged pile is much more reliable than throwing valuables together and hoping they reach the target.
Mega Modules: New Rooms and Challenges
Mega Modules are some of the most interesting additions because they introduce larger rooms with their own mechanics. These rooms are not just ordinary areas filled with valuables. Many contain environmental hazards, puzzles, enemies, or special interactions that can make collecting loot much harder.
Here are some of the notable Mega Modules and how to approach them.
Mama Spewer
Location: McGenic
Mama Spewer is a dangerous room built around a dead Spewer. There is valuable loot around the central area, but collecting it is not as easy as walking in and grabbing everything.
The room contains holes that can release larvae. These creatures can spit at players, making it dangerous to stand still while collecting valuables.
The best approach is to keep moving and pay attention to the holes around the room. Don’t let your entire team gather in one spot, especially when the larvae begin appearing.
Tips:
- Check the surrounding holes before entering the central area.
- Avoid standing still for too long.
- Collect nearby valuables first instead of rushing toward the centre.
- Keep an escape route open in case the larvae start attacking.
The Well
Location: Headbanger Manor
The Well is a large room built around a massive corpse. You can enter through an opening around the tail area and explore the interior before finding your way toward the front.
There is also a staircase leading to an upper section, where you can find additional valuables.
Don’t rush through this room without checking the different levels. Some of the loot is easy to miss if your team only searches the lower area.
Tips:
- Explore the lower section before moving upstairs.
- Check around the staircase for additional valuables.
- Keep track of your route so you don’t waste time finding the exit.
- Be careful when carrying large objects through narrow openings.
Cursed Tree
Location: Swift Room Academy
The Cursed Tree is another unusual Mega Module with loot scattered around its lower section and a hidden interaction near the top.
You can collect valuables around the bottom, but there is also something worth investigating above. This room is particularly important if you want to discover one of the update’s hidden secrets.
The upper section is connected to the cube puzzle explained later in this guide. If your team finds a cube in this area, don’t immediately send it to extraction.
Tips:
- Search the lower section for ordinary valuables.
- Look for a way to reach the top of the tree.
- Keep any unusual cube you find instead of selling it immediately.
- Make sure your team has enough time to investigate the upper area.
Red Light, Green Light
Location: Museum
This Mega Module introduces a challenge based on the familiar Red Light, Green Light game.
A large robot statue rotates and watches the room. You can move when the light is green or yellow, but you need to stop when it turns red.
If the statue detects movement during the red phase, it can grab and throw you. This makes carrying valuables particularly dangerous because even a small movement at the wrong moment can put your entire run at risk.
The statue can also interact with enemies, so the room may become even more chaotic when monsters enter.
How to survive:
- Watch the statue carefully before moving.
- Move during the green or yellow phase.
- Stop completely when the light turns red.
- Use the area underneath the statue or behind its back as cover when appropriate.
- Avoid getting too close to dangerous pits while carrying valuables.
Don’t focus only on the statue. Keep an eye on your surroundings as well, because falling into a pit can be just as dangerous as getting caught.
New Map: Sunstone Valley Resort
Sunstone Valley Resort is the biggest new location introduced in the update. Despite its resort-like name, the map has a very different atmosphere, with areas that feel closer to an abandoned mining facility.
The level includes vertical rooms, narrow corridors, dangerous drops, breakable wooden platforms, and mine carts. These environmental features make transporting valuables more challenging than in many of the older maps.
Watch Out for Breakable Planks
Some areas contain wooden planks that can break when players walk over them. If you’re carrying a valuable object when the floor gives way, you could lose both your position and the item.
Always pay attention to the floor before moving heavy valuables across these sections.
Use Mine Carts Carefully
Mine carts are another feature you’ll encounter around the map. They can help with movement, but you still need to be careful about where you’re going.
Don’t assume every cart route is completely safe. Check the surrounding area and make sure your team understands where the cart is taking them.
Difficult Doors and Narrow Corridors
Some parts of Sunstone Valley Resort have awkward doors and tight corridors. Large valuables can become difficult to move through these areas, especially when multiple players try to carry them at the same time.
Try to assign one player to guide the item while another handles the surrounding obstacles. This makes transporting large objects much easier.
General Tips for Sunstone Valley Resort
- Check for breakable floors before carrying expensive valuables.
- Look around vertical rooms for alternative routes.
- Use mine carts when they provide a safer route.
- Avoid rushing through narrow corridors with large objects.
- Keep track of your teammates so nobody gets separated.
- Search each room carefully before moving toward extraction.
The map rewards careful exploration. Rushing through it can cause your team to lose valuable items or run into enemies without having enough space to escape.
New Shop Items
The update introduces several new items that can help your team during difficult encounters. Some are useful for fighting enemies, while others make it easier to manage equipment and energy.
Whip
The Whip can wrap around players or enemies and allow you to throw them by moving your camera.
It is not particularly useful for dealing direct damage, but its ability to move targets makes it interesting for controlling enemies and positioning them around the map.
One of the best uses is throwing enemies toward pits or other dangerous areas. If you can get the right angle, you may be able to remove a threat without having to fight it directly.
Best uses:
- Throw enemies away from teammates.
- Move dangerous targets toward pits.
- Create distance when an enemy gets too close.
- Help control crowded areas.
Be careful when using it around teammates, since throwing the wrong target can create more problems than it solves.
Human Gun
The Human Gun is a revolver-style weapon with a six-bullet chamber. It deals around 120 damage per shot, making it a useful option when your team needs another way to deal with enemies.
However, the weapon has a rotating chamber mechanic. You need to pay attention to which chamber is loaded before firing.
If the chamber is empty, the gun will simply click. Firing while the chamber is spinning too quickly can also cause the shot to fail, even if there is ammunition available.
Human Gun tips:
- Keep track of the six chambers.
- Don’t fire randomly without checking the weapon.
- Allow the chamber to settle before shooting.
- Use it when you have a clear shot instead of wasting ammunition.
- Avoid relying on it as your only method of dealing with enemies.
The gun is powerful when used correctly, but careless firing can waste valuable opportunities.
Recharge Orb
The Recharge Orb allows you to recharge multiple items at once. It is especially useful when your team has several pieces of equipment running low on energy.
However, the available charge is divided between the items it affects. For example, if you use it on two completely empty items, each may receive approximately 50% charge rather than both becoming fully charged.
This means you should think carefully about which equipment needs energy before using it.
Best uses:
- Recharge multiple low-energy items.
- Restore equipment before a difficult encounter.
- Share energy between important tools.
- Prepare your team before continuing exploration.
You can also use it alongside other equipment, including items such as the cart or Roll Drone. Just remember that the total charge is shared rather than duplicated.
How to Get Discounts From the Shopkeeper
One of the more interesting shop changes is the ability to offer items to the shopkeeper in exchange for a possible discount.
Instead of simply purchasing equipment at its listed price, you can hold an item in front of the shopkeeper and try to convince them to reduce the cost.
However, this is a gamble. The shopkeeper may give you a discount, but there is also a chance that your item will be destroyed.
Discount Mechanics
The discount attempt has a one-in-three chance of succeeding, with successful discounts ranging from approximately 50% to 70%.
You can try this with up to three items during a shop visit, and you can make up to two additional attempts on the same item after an unsuccessful result.
Be careful, though. A failed attempt can destroy the item you offered, so don’t risk something valuable unless you’re comfortable losing it.
There is also a minimum discount value of 5,000. This means that an item costing 5,000 or less can potentially become free if the discount is large enough.
Best Discount Strategy
- Offer items you don’t need rather than important equipment.
- Avoid risking expensive valuables just to save a little money.
- Try to use the discount mechanic on purchases that would otherwise cost a lot.
- Remember that a failed attempt can destroy the offered item.
- Don’t waste every attempt on an item your team doesn’t really need.
The shopkeeper’s discount system can save your team a lot of money, but it is not guaranteed. Treat it as a bonus rather than something you should depend on.
New Enemy: Pony
Pony is one of the most dangerous additions in the update. It has around 400 HP and several attacks that can catch players off guard.
Despite its unusual appearance, you should not underestimate it. Pony can grab players with its tongue, throw them around, kick nearby targets, and even interfere with weapons.
The most important thing to understand is that Pony can attack from different positions, including the ceiling.
Pony’s Attacks
Tongue Grab
Pony can use its long tongue to grab players, including those who are standing or crouching. Once it catches someone, it can throw them away.
This makes staying in one place especially dangerous.
Rear Kick
If you’re positioned behind Pony, it can use a powerful rear kick to attack you. Avoid standing directly behind it for too long.
Front Leg Attack
Pony can also attack players in front of it using its front legs. Don’t assume that staying in front of the enemy is safe.
Ceiling Drop
Pony can move around the ceiling and drop down toward players. This attack can be frightening, but the drop itself does not necessarily deal damage.
Still, you should use the moment to create distance before it follows up with another attack.
Weapon Grab
One particularly annoying ability is its ability to grab weapons. If you’re holding a weapon while Pony is nearby, it may use its tongue to take it away.
Keep your distance when using weapons and don’t assume you can safely attack from close range.
How to Avoid Pony
The safest approach is to keep moving and avoid staying directly in front of or behind it.
Strafing can help you avoid its attacks, especially when it tries to grab you with its tongue. Try to move sideways rather than running directly away in a straight line.
You should also be careful when fighting Pony near pits. Its death can trigger a shockwave that stuns nearby players, so killing it next to a dangerous drop can put your entire team at risk.
Pony’s Death Shockwave
When Pony dies, it releases a shockwave that can stun players nearby. This can interrupt your movement and leave you vulnerable to other enemies.
The shockwave can also create problems around pits and other dangerous areas.
Tips for fighting Pony:
- Keep moving instead of standing in one place.
- Strafe to avoid its tongue attacks.
- Avoid standing directly behind it.
- Be careful when carrying weapons near it.
- Don’t fight it too close to pits.
- Move away before delivering the final hit.
- Watch the ceiling because Pony can drop down unexpectedly.
Can You Ride Pony?
There is also a strange interaction that allows players to ride Pony by grabbing the upper part of its head.
However, this is not a safe way to deal with the enemy. Pony can still be dangerous while you’re attempting to ride it, so treat this as an unusual interaction rather than a reliable strategy.
Hidden Easter Egg: The Giant Cube
One of the most interesting secrets in the update can be found in the Cursed Tree room at Swift Room Academy.
This secret involves a cube that you need to carry to the top of the tree. Once you reach the upper area, you’ll find a puzzle involving six symbols on the floor.
How to Complete the Cube Puzzle
The puzzle requires you to match all six faces of the cube with the symbols on the floor.
Follow these steps:
- Find the cube inside the Cursed Tree room.
- Carry it toward the upper section of the tree.
- Look for the six symbols displayed on the floor.
- Rotate the cube until one of its faces matches the required symbol.
- Repeat the process for all six faces.
- Make sure every symbol has been matched correctly.
When all six faces are aligned with their corresponding symbols, the cube transforms into a much larger object.
What Happens After Completing the Puzzle?
Once the puzzle is complete, the cube becomes a giant, heavy object that can move around and make loud screaming sounds.
The transformed object is worth approximately $250,000, making it one of the most valuable rewards you can discover.
However, there is a catch. The object is extremely heavy and its screaming can attract enemies.
You also cannot simply use a drone to complete the puzzle. The cube itself needs to be carried and positioned correctly.
Tips for the Cube Secret:
- Make sure your team has enough time before starting.
- Keep the cube instead of sending it to extraction immediately.
- Match every face carefully.
- Bring teammates to help transport the transformed object.
- Be prepared for enemies to investigate the screaming.
- Keep your escape route clear before attempting to extract it.
If your team manages to complete the puzzle and safely extract the giant cube, the reward can make the entire run worthwhile.
Other Changes and Improvements
Alongside the major additions, the update includes several smaller changes that affect regular gameplay.
Tick Can Now Drive Vehicles
Tick has received a new interaction that allows it to hijack and drive vehicles. This can create unexpected situations when you’re relying on vehicles to transport valuables or move around the map.
Keep an eye on your vehicle whenever Tick is nearby.
New Footsteps on Sunstone Valley Resort
The new map includes additional cowboy-style footsteps and sounds that help give the location its own atmosphere.
New Outfits
Cowboy and miner outfits have also been added, giving players more cosmetic options to use during their runs.
Improved Gun Aiming
Gun aiming has been improved so weapons shoot more accurately toward the direction you’re aiming.
This should make ranged combat feel more reliable, especially when trying to hit enemies at close range.
Shop Inventory on the Map
The map now displays information about the valuables currently waiting at the extraction point while you’re in the shop.
This makes it easier to keep track of what your team has collected and what still needs to be extracted.
Additional Gameplay Improvements
The update also includes changes to climbing, swinging, item handling, and loading performance. Several bugs involving enemies, vehicles, batteries, voice chat, and saved games have also been fixed.
The latest R.E.P.O. update adds much more than just another map. Sunstone Valley Resort brings new environmental challenges, Pony introduces a dangerous enemy to learn, and Mega Modules give familiar locations additional rooms with their own mechanics.
The new items also add more options for dealing with enemies and managing equipment. The shopkeeper discount system is a fun gamble, while the giant cube Easter egg gives players a reason to explore the Cursed Tree instead of simply collecting the nearest valuables.
If you’re playing with friends, I would especially recommend trying the Please the Moon challenge, exploring the new Mega Modules, and attempting the giant cube puzzle. Just make sure your team is ready to deal with Pony and the other dangers waiting around the map.
