Clash of Critters BudBoo Tier List & Evolution Guide

When a brand-new Tatari drops in Clash of Critters, the first question is always the same: Is it actually worth investing your resources into, or is it just another collection piece?

I’ve spent some time going through BudBoo’s entire evolution line and comparing it against the current meta, and honestly, I like the direction the developers took here. Instead of releasing something ridiculously overpowered that instantly replaces older favourites, BudBoo feels… balanced.

That’s actually refreshing.

Its power changes quite a bit as it evolves, so your opinion of this Tatari can easily change depending on which tier you’re looking at. At first, it’s a decent Grass damage dealer, then it becomes surprisingly strong, before settling back into a more balanced role later on.

Let’s break down every evolution and see exactly where it fits in today’s tier list.

BudBoo (Tier 1) Rating – B Tier

BudBoo starts off as a straightforward ranged Grass Tatari.

Its attack animation throws seeds directly at enemies, and some of those attacks can inflict Poison. While the mechanic is simple, it already gives BudBoo a little more value than many basic early-game damage dealers.

Why it lands in B Tier

The biggest strength here is simply the lack of strong Grass DPS options early on.

While there are a few competitors, Grass isn’t exactly overflowing with amazing damage dealers at Tier 1. Because of that, BudBoo immediately becomes a respectable option if you’re building a Grass-focused team.

That said, it isn’t powerful enough to compete with the absolute best Tier 1 Tataris.

It deals reliable damage but doesn’t completely take over battles.

Strengths

  • Consistent ranged attacks
  • Poison provides extra chip damage
  • Easy to understand and use
  • Nice early-game Grass option

Weaknesses

  • Doesn’t outperform top Tier 1 meta picks
  • Mostly straightforward damage without much utility
  • Existing players may already have stronger upgraded alternatives

If you’re starting a fresh account, BudBoo is much more valuable than it looks.

Veteran players with heavily upgraded Tataris probably won’t rush to replace their existing Grass units.

SnapShade (Tier 2) Rating – A Tier

This is where BudBoo really starts to shine.

After evolving into SnapShade, its attack pattern changes dramatically.

Instead of firing a single projectile, SnapShade launches attacks in three different directions, allowing it to cover multiple lanes at once.

If enemies stay spread out, all three lanes receive damage.

If enemies move close together, multiple shots can hit the same target, resulting in surprisingly high burst damage.

That’s a huge improvement over the Tier 1 version.

Why SnapShade reaches A Tier

The multi-lane coverage makes SnapShade much more flexible.

It clears groups better than BudBoo while still maintaining strong single-target damage whenever enemies stack together.

It’s one of those evolutions that genuinely feels stronger the moment you unlock it.

Compared to other Grass Tataris at the same level, SnapShade performs extremely well and even outclasses several existing options.

Strengths

  • Excellent lane coverage
  • Stronger crowd control
  • Better boss damage when multiple shots connect
  • One of the better Grass DPS choices

Weaknesses

  • Still doesn’t surpass the absolute S Tier monsters
  • Positioning matters more because of projectile angles

Overall, this is easily the strongest stage of BudBoo’s evolution line.

If you’re investing resources into this Tatari, this is the point where you’ll notice the biggest payoff.

ThornsWhip (Tier 3) Rating – B Tier

Interestingly, the final evolution doesn’t climb even higher.

Instead, ThornsWhip drops back down into B Tier.

That might sound disappointing, but there’s a good reason for it.

Rather than focusing purely on damage, ThornsWhip adds an area-control mechanic.

Whenever Poison spreads, it now leaves behind poisonous puddles that remain on the ground for several seconds.

The concept is fun.

The execution just isn’t quite powerful enough.

Why ThornsWhip falls back to B Tier

The poison pools certainly add extra damage over time.

However, when compared against other Tier 3 Tataris that offer stronger burst damage, better utility, or superior crowd control, ThornsWhip simply doesn’t keep up.

The poison puddles look impressive, but in practice they don’t generate enough damage to justify ranking alongside the game’s strongest options.

That’s why it settles comfortably into B Tier instead of climbing higher.

Strengths

  • Permanent area denial
  • Additional poison damage
  • Interesting playstyle
  • Useful in longer fights

Weaknesses

  • Damage feels underwhelming
  • Doesn’t outperform top Tier 3 choices
  • Better options exist for Horde-style content

It’s still perfectly usable, just not something that completely changes the meta.

How BudBoo Compares to Other Grass Tataris

BudBoo fills an important role because Grass damage dealers are relatively limited.

Compared to several older Grass units, it feels more consistent and easier to use.

However, it still doesn’t dethrone some of the strongest meta picks.

If you’re choosing between fully upgraded favourites and a newly unlocked BudBoo, the older investments will often continue performing better simply because of higher star levels and upgrades.

For newer players though, BudBoo offers a very comfortable progression path.

Is BudBoo Good for Free-to-Play Players?

Yes.

In fact, free-to-play players may benefit from BudBoo more than heavy spenders.

Players who don’t instantly unlock every Tatari often rely on lower-rarity units for longer periods, and BudBoo fits nicely into that progression.

SnapShade especially provides enough power to carry a large portion of the early and mid-game without feeling weak.

If you’re still building your roster, it’s definitely worth trying.

Should You Upgrade BudBoo?

Here’s the short answer.

Upgrade it if:

  • You need another reliable Grass damage dealer.
  • You’re still progressing through the early or mid game.
  • You enjoy Poison-based playstyles.
  • You’re missing stronger Grass alternatives.

You can safely skip heavy investment if:

  • You already own well-upgraded meta Grass Tataris.
  • Your resources are limited.
  • You’re saving materials for higher-priority S Tier units.

I actually like what the developers did with BudBoo.

Instead of introducing another overpowered Tatari that instantly becomes mandatory, they released something that feels genuinely balanced.

BudBoo starts as a respectable B Tier unit, evolves into an excellent A Tier performer with SnapShade, and finally settles back into a balanced B Tier role as ThornsWhip.

That might seem unusual at first, but it also means older Tataris remain relevant instead of becoming obsolete overnight.

If you’re looking for the best part of this evolution line, SnapShade is definitely the highlight. It’s where BudBoo reaches its full potential and feels genuinely rewarding to play.

Overall, BudBoo isn’t a must-have meta-defining Tatari, but it’s absolutely a worthwhile addition for players looking to strengthen their Grass lineup without feeling forced to chase the latest release.
