If you’re a Black Clover fan and have just started playing Clover Time, there’s quite a lot to discover. The game has races, classes, traits, weapons, Grimoires, tools, fishing, and plenty of other systems that can be confusing when you first jump in.
In this Clover Time beginner guide, I’ll walk you through the important things you should know when starting out. We’ll look at character customization, the inventory, quests and tools, combat, weapons, Grimoires, and even how to find the Grimoire gacha.
The game is still new, so some things may change as updates arrive. But if you’re jumping into Clover Time for the first time, this guide should give you a good idea of what to do and what you can expect during your early progression.
Clover Time Beginner Guide – Trello Link, Weapons
When you first enter Clover Time, one of the first things you can check out is the customization area.
This is where you can work on your character and change different aspects of your build. You can also roll for things like Races, Classes, and Traits, so this is an important area to understand early on.
Your Race, Class, and Trait can affect your character’s stats and overall progression, so don’t completely ignore the customization system.
Once you’re happy with your character, you can leave the starting house and begin exploring the world.
Learn the Clover Time UI
The UI in Clover Time is fairly straightforward, so you shouldn’t have too much trouble getting used to it.
One of the first things you’ll notice is the inventory.
The inventory has several filters that make it easier to find specific items. There are also rewards connected to collecting more items, which gives you another reason to explore and pick things up during your journey.
I’d recommend spending a little time learning the inventory instead of simply ignoring it. As you progress, you’re going to collect more weapons, materials, and other items.
Be Careful With Game Passes
One thing you should know about Clover Time is that some quality-of-life features are tied to game passes.
For example, opening multiple chests at once requires a game pass. There is also a separate game pass for skipping the chest-opening animation.
There are also various bundles, products, and other game passes available.
Private servers are also offered as a subscription, so keep that in mind if you were planning to play privately with friends.
You don’t need to buy these things to start playing, but it’s worth knowing what features are available before you spend anything.
Check the In-Game Guide
One of the most useful features for new players is the in-game guide.
If you’re confused about one of the game’s systems, this guide can help explain some of the mechanics. It includes information about different activities and systems, including things like getting fishing rods.
As a beginner, I recommend checking the guide whenever you come across something you don’t understand. It can save you from having to figure everything out yourself.
Visit the Hage Priest
Inside the house where you start, you’ll find an NPC called the Hage Priest.
This NPC is important because you can use the system here to roll for things such as:
- Races
- Classes
- Traits
So if you’re looking to change your character’s setup, make sure you know where the Hage Priest is.
You can also access customization and rolls through the game’s menus, but knowing the NPC location is useful when you’re exploring the world.
Learn About the Tools
Clover Time isn’t only about fighting enemies.
The game also has different tools that you can use for side activities and missions.
Axe
The Axe can be used to chop down trees and collect wood.
Wood and other materials can become important as you progress, so don’t ignore gathering activities just because they aren’t part of combat.
Rake
The Rake is another tool you can use for activities involving crops and similar tasks.
These tools give the game some additional activities outside of simply fighting enemies and completing combat quests.
Understanding Combat
Once you’re ready to fight, you’ll need to get used to Clover Time’s combat system.
Your basic attacks are performed using M1s, and the basic attacks are fairly simple to understand.
However, combat animations and hitboxes can feel a little unusual at times. Some attacks may not feel as impactful as you’d expect, and certain animations can look a little rough.
Since the game is still new, these are the kinds of things that could potentially be improved through future updates.
Your First Weapons
You’ll come across several weapons as you begin progressing.
Wooden Sword
The Wooden Sword is one of the basic weapons you can start with.
It’s a very simple weapon and is mostly something you’ll use while you’re still getting started.
Bandit Dagger
The Bandit Dagger is another early weapon and comes with two moves.
It’s a step up from a basic starter weapon and gives you access to additional attacks.
Iron Sword
The Iron Sword is another weapon you’ll encounter.
At the time of the original gameplay, it didn’t appear to have any moves available, so it’s possible that some abilities may need to be unlocked through progression.
Iron Scythe
The Iron Scythe is one of the more interesting-looking early weapons.
The idle animation looks nice, and if you’re a fan of scythes, this is definitely a weapon you’ll probably want to try.
However, the version shown in the gameplay didn’t have additional moves available.
Don’t Forget About Guns
Clover Time also has ranged weapons such as guns.
The gun system works a little differently from normal weapons. You first click to aim and then click again while aiming to fire.
Because of this system, some of the other keybinds can feel unnecessary depending on how the weapon is set up.
One thing you should also keep in mind is the range. The gun shown in the gameplay had extremely long range, allowing the player to shoot targets from a huge distance.
This could be something that changes with future balancing updates.
Get Your First Grimoire
Of course, if you’re playing a Black Clover-inspired game, you’re probably going to be interested in Grimoires.
Grimoires are one of the most important parts of Clover Time and can completely change the abilities available to your character.
The Grimoire gacha can be found at the tower icon shown on your compass.
When you’re exploring the map, keep an eye on your compass for the tower symbol. That’s where you’ll find the Grimoire gacha.
Anti-Magic Grimoire
One of the rarest obtainable Grimoires shown in the gameplay is Anti-Magic.
The base moveset has several abilities, although the basic version doesn’t have a huge amount of AoE.
Because of this, it may not be the absolute best option for grinding in its base form.
However, Anti-Magic also has an Awakening, which gives it a new moveset.
The Awakening cutscene is also different, and after awakening you get access to stronger-looking abilities.
So if you manage to get Anti-Magic, make sure you explore its Awakening instead of judging the Grimoire only by its base moveset.
Use Brooms to Fly Around
One of the coolest mobility features in Clover Time is the ability to use brooms.
Once you get a broom, you can fly around the map instead of having to travel everywhere on foot.
This can make exploring much easier, especially once you’re traveling between different locations.
If you’re planning to explore the world properly, getting access to a broom should definitely be something you keep in mind.
What Should Beginners Focus On?
When you’re just starting Clover Time, I wouldn’t recommend trying to understand every single system at once.
Instead, take things one step at a time.
First, get familiar with your Race, Class, and Trait. Then learn how the inventory works and start completing activities around the starting area.
After that, start collecting weapons and materials while learning the combat system.
Once you’re comfortable, you can start focusing more on Grimoires and finding the abilities that fit the way you want to play.
If you’re starting Clover Time for the first time, here are the main things I’d recommend remembering:
- Check your Race, Class, and Trait early.
- Learn how the inventory filters work.
- Visit the Hage Priest for rolls.
- Use the in-game Guide when you’re confused.
- Collect materials using tools like the Axe and Rake.
- Experiment with different weapons.
- Learn the basic combat controls before taking on tougher enemies.
- Look for the tower icon on your compass to find the Grimoire gacha.
- Try to get a broom for easier map travel.
- Explore your Grimoire’s Awakening if you obtain one with an Awakening.
- Keep in mind that some mechanics and animations may change through future updates.
Overall, Clover Time gives you quite a lot to experiment with when you first start playing. Don’t worry about having the perfect build immediately. Take some time to learn the systems, explore the map, and figure out which weapons and abilities you enjoy using.
