If you’re playing Combolands: Roguelike Citybuilder and wondering how to unlock some of the hidden guilds, there are two secret options you can work toward: the Rogues Guild and the Arcane Guild.
Neither guild is available when you start a new game, so you need to complete specific objectives before they are added to your available guild pool. The unlock requirements are also quite different, with the Rogues Guild requiring a council request and the Arcane Guild involving gems and a special heirloom.
In this guide, I’ll walk you through both unlock methods step by step. I’ll also share a few tips that can make the process easier, especially if you’re still learning how to make enough Gold in Combolands.
Combolands Guilds Guide – Unlock Rogues and Arcane Guild
The Rogues Guild is unlocked by completing a council request from the Spymaster.
Your objective is to collect 75 Gold during a milestone. This can sound like a lot when you’re still getting established, but there is a fairly simple way to reach the requirement.
Collect 75 Gold During a Milestone
The easiest approach is to make good use of the Commercial Guild and the Merchant Councilor.
The Merchant Councilor can help you generate additional value from your votes. According to the guide, buying a vote costs 3 Gold while giving you 5 Gold, making it useful for building up the amount needed for the Spymaster’s request.
You don’t necessarily have to follow this exact strategy, but having a strong source of Gold will make this unlock much easier.
Complete the Spymaster Request
Once you’ve collected the required 75 Gold, complete the Spymaster’s council request.
The reward is a Spymaster vote.
Use this vote and the Rogues Guild will be unlocked for your current game and future games.
This is important because you don’t need to repeat the entire unlock process every time you start a new run. Once you’ve successfully unlocked the guild, it becomes part of your future options.
What Does the Rogues Guild Do?
The Rogues Guild gives you access to buildings focused on things such as triggering effects and collecting Gold.
These buildings can come with small negative effects, but the benefits can be extremely strong if you know how to use them.
The Rogues Guild is considered by many players to be one of the strongest guilds available in Combolands. The downside is that you can’t simply select it when beginning your first games. You have to unlock it through the Spymaster quest first.
If you’re planning to play Combolands for a while, unlocking this guild is definitely worth prioritizing.
How to Unlock the Arcane Guild
The Arcane Guild has a completely different unlock method.
Instead of completing a council request, you need to collect eight gems and turn a special heirloom into a chain of items that eventually rewards you with a Wizard vote.
The process sounds complicated at first, but it becomes much easier once you know what items you’re looking for.
Find the Jewellery Box
The first thing you need is the heirloom called the Jewellery Box.
You can find the Jewellery Box in the Shop or from Heirloom Chests, so there isn’t just one location where you have to search for it.
However, one of the easiest ways to find it is by using the Antiquarian Councilor.
The Antiquarian Councilor is particularly useful because it can give you opportunities to obtain the Jewellery Box and potentially provide additional gems as you continue collecting votes.
Collect 8 Gems
Once you have the Jewellery Box, your next objective is to collect 8 gems.
The gems don’t have to be unique, so you don’t need to worry about finding eight completely different types.
This makes the process considerably easier because duplicates still count toward the requirement.
If you’re struggling to find enough gems, continue working with the Antiquarian Councilor whenever possible. This can give you additional opportunities to build up your collection.
Turn the Jewellery Box Into the Lost Crown
After you’ve collected the required gems, sell the fully collected Jewellery Box.
Doing this will reward you with another heirloom called the Lost Crown.
You’re not finished yet, though.
The Lost Crown is the next step in the unlock chain.
Sell the Lost Crown
Once you receive the Lost Crown, sell it.
Selling the crown will give you a Wizard vote.
Use the Wizard vote and the Arcane Guild will be unlocked.
Just like the Rogues Guild, you don’t have to repeat this entire process every time you start a new game after unlocking it.
Unlocking the secret guilds in Combolands takes a little preparation, but neither one is particularly difficult once you know the exact requirements.
For the Rogues Guild, focus on collecting 75 Gold, complete the Spymaster’s request, and use the resulting Spymaster vote.
For the Arcane Guild, find the Jewellery Box, collect 8 gems, sell the completed box to get the Lost Crown, and then sell the crown to receive the Wizard vote.
I’d also recommend using the Commercial and Martial Guilds while working toward these unlocks. They can make it much easier to generate the Gold you need.
Once you’ve unlocked the two secret guilds, they’ll become available for your future games, giving you even more options for experimenting with different Combolands builds.
