If you’re trying to unlock Waxwell in Dandy’s World, you’ll need to do a little bit of work first. Waxwell isn’t a character you can simply pick up right away, as there are a couple of requirements you need to finish before he becomes available.
Waxwell, also known as Maxwell the Candle, is one of the playable Toons in Dandy’s World. He has a pretty unique candle design, with purple wax dripping down from his head like hair, a white wick on top, and a large flame.
But the interesting part is obviously his ability. Waxwell can actually light his flame and help himself and nearby Toons recover their abilities faster. So, if you’re wondering how to get Waxwell, what his ability does, and what you need to unlock him, here’s everything you need to know.
Dandy’s World Waxwell Update Guide – How to Unlock Waxwell, Ability & Requirements
There are three main requirements you need to complete before you can unlock Waxwell.
You’ll need:
- 50% Research on Twisted Waxwell
- Complete 3 Mastery Quests on Goop
- 3,500 Ichor
Once you have all three requirements completed, you’ll be able to unlock Waxwell.
The Research requirement is probably the part that will take the most time, especially if you haven’t encountered Twisted Waxwell yet. So, don’t expect to unlock him immediately after starting the game.
Get 50% Research on Twisted Waxwell
The first requirement is reaching 50% Research on Twisted Waxwell.
Twisted Waxwell is the Twisted version of Waxwell, and he was introduced alongside the update that added Waxwell. Like other Twisted characters, he can appear during your runs, so you’ll need to keep playing and look out for him.
Your goal is to build up enough Research until you reach the required 50%.
If you’re specifically trying to finish this requirement, keep an eye out for Twisted Waxwell whenever you’re exploring floors. Since he can appear on different floors, you’ll naturally have opportunities to encounter him while playing normally.
Complete 3 Mastery Quests on Goop
The second requirement is connected to Goop.
You need to complete three Mastery Quests on Goop before Waxwell can be unlocked.
If you haven’t worked on Goop’s Mastery yet, this is something you’ll want to start focusing on. Head over to Goop and work through the available Mastery objectives until you’ve completed three of his quests.
You don’t need to finish every Mastery Quest for Goop. The requirement is specifically three completed Mastery Quests.
Collect 3,500 Ichor
The final requirement is pretty straightforward: you need 3,500 Ichor.
Ichor is the currency you’ll need to spend toward unlocking Waxwell, so make sure you have enough saved before trying to unlock him.
If you’re short on Ichor, just keep playing your regular runs and collecting it until you reach the required amount. It’s worth checking your current total before you start working through the other requirements so you know exactly how much more you need.
Waxwell’s Ability – Ignite
Now for the fun part.
Waxwell’s ability is called Ignite, and it revolves around his flame.
When you activate Ignite, Waxwell lights his flame and removes his Tired debuff for 10 seconds.
That alone can be useful, but the ability has another effect that makes it more interesting when you’re playing with other Toons.
While Waxwell is ignited, he leaves a trail behind him as he moves.
If another Toon touches this trail, they receive the Ignited buff. This causes their ability cooldown to recover two times faster for 5 seconds.
So, rather than being an ability that only benefits Waxwell, you can actually use it to help your teammates get their abilities back faster.
How the Ignite Trail Works
The trail is probably the most important thing to understand if you want to get the most out of Waxwell.
After activating Ignite, simply moving around will leave the trail behind you. Other Toons can walk through it to receive the Ignited buff.
The buff lasts for 5 seconds, during which their ability cooldown recovers at 2x the normal rate.
There are a couple of limitations, though.
The effect doesn’t affect Waxwell himself, and the buff cannot stack. So you can’t keep running through multiple trails and expect the cooldown effect to become even stronger.
Because of that, timing is important. If you’re playing with a team, it’s better to use Ignite when your teammates can actually take advantage of the trail rather than activating it randomly.
Waxwell Ability Cooldown
Ignite has a 60-second cooldown.
That means you’ll want to think about when you activate it, especially during more difficult parts of a run.
Since the ability can help your teammates recover their abilities faster, using it at the right moment can be much more useful than simply activating it whenever it’s available.
If a teammate is waiting for an important ability, for example, you can use Ignite and position yourself so they have an easy opportunity to walk through the trail.
Waxwell’s Design
Waxwell has a pretty recognizable appearance compared with the other Toons.
He’s essentially a purple candle, with a large amount of wax dripping down from his head. The wax gives him what looks like hair, while the top of his head has a white wick with a flame burning above it.
The candle theme also fits perfectly with his Ignite ability. His design isn’t just cosmetic either—the flame on his head is directly tied to the way his ability works.
Is Waxwell Worth Unlocking?
If you like playing characters that can provide utility for the rest of the team, Waxwell is definitely an interesting Toon to add to your collection.
His ability gives him a way to remove his own Tired debuff temporarily while also creating an area that can help teammates recover their abilities faster.
The biggest thing is learning when to use Ignite. Since the cooldown is 60 seconds and the team buff only lasts for 5 seconds, you don’t want to waste the opportunity.
Once you get used to positioning yourself and letting teammates run through the trail, Waxwell can become a pretty useful addition to a coordinated team.
