Directive 8020 Achievement Guide – How to Get All

Directive 8020 takes the classic Dark Pictures formula and pushes it much further than previous games in the series. Choices matter more, stealth sections are far more intense, and the new Turning Point system completely changes how replaying works. If you are trying to unlock every achievement, there is a lot to keep track of between survival outcomes, character destinies, collectibles, alternate choices, and hidden endings.

This guide is written to help both new players and achievement hunters understand exactly what they should focus on during each playthrough. Some achievements are simple story progression unlocks, while others require very specific choices, survival conditions, or relationship outcomes.

Be warned that this guide contains heavy spoilers for the entire game.

Directive 8020 100% Achievement Guide

One of the biggest additions in Directive 8020 is the Turning Point system.

Older Dark Pictures games usually forced players to replay large sections of the story if they wanted to change one decision. Directive 8020 handles things differently. You can now pause the game and return directly to important branching moments through a flowchart-style menu.

This feature is incredibly useful when going for 100% completion because it allows you to:

  • Replay major choices instantly
  • Save characters that died earlier
  • Explore alternate endings
  • Unlock opposite dialogue paths
  • Revisit missed collectibles
  • Earn conflicting achievements without replaying the full game

If this is your first playthrough, it is highly recommended to leave Turning Points enabled.

The only mode where the feature is disabled is Survivor Playstyle.

If you want the smoothest route to every achievement, this order works best.

First Playthrough

Use Turning Points and focus on:

  • Keeping everyone alive
  • Exploring every area carefully
  • Collecting secrets
  • Messaging crew members
  • Learning dangerous story choices
  • Understanding infection and stealth mechanics

Do not stress too much about perfection on the first run. The game is designed around replaying decisions.

Cleanup Phase

After your first completion, use Turning Points to:

  • Unlock alternate character destinies
  • Get opposite story outcomes
  • Finish missing collectibles
  • Earn alternate communication achievements
  • Fix failed survival achievements

Final Playthrough

Save Survivor mode for last.

Since Turning Points are disabled entirely, this mode becomes much easier once you already understand the story structure and dangerous scenes.

Survivor Mode Achievement

Live with the Consequences

Requirement: Complete the game on Survivor Playstyle.

Survivor mode removes the Turning Point feature completely. Every decision becomes permanent, and mistakes cannot be undone.

The difficulty itself is not dramatically harder, but the pressure becomes much higher because failed QTEs and bad choices permanently affect the story.

The safest strategy is to complete a normal run first so you already know:

  • Which choices lead to deaths
  • Which characters are vulnerable
  • Where stealth sections happen
  • Which relationships matter most
  • Which scenes contain difficult QTEs

If possible, combine this run with a full survival route.

Survival Achievements

Several achievements revolve around keeping characters alive or resolving dangerous situations safely.

Humanitarian

Requirement: Save the entire crew.

This is the classic “everyone survives” achievement.

Directive 8020 is much less forgiving than some earlier Dark Pictures games because character deaths can happen long after the decision that actually caused them.

A few important survival tips:

  • Explore optional rooms carefully
  • Do not ignore dialogue choices
  • Stay calm during stealth sections
  • Pay attention to trust and suspicion between crew members
  • Avoid reckless decisions unless absolutely necessary
  • Succeed at major QTE sequences

Using Turning Points makes this achievement dramatically easier because you can immediately revisit failed scenes.

This Steak’s Raw

Requirement: Mitchell and Anders survive the experiment unharmed.

This achievement is tied to one of the game’s experiment sequences.

The important detail is that both characters must survive without suffering injuries or complications during the scene.

This likely requires:

  • Correct dialogue choices
  • Successful QTE completion
  • Avoiding contamination or damage
  • Proper cooperation during the event

If the achievement does not unlock, use Turning Points to retry the entire sequence.

Human After All

Requirement: All crew members pass safely through the scanner.

This achievement takes place during one of the game’s major paranoia-focused scenes.

The scanner sequence is heavily tied to contamination and trust systems throughout the story.

To unlock this achievement:

  • Every crew member must survive
  • Nobody can fail the scan
  • No dangerous transformation or contamination outcome can occur

Choices made long before this scene may affect the outcome.

Stealth 100

Requirement: Return to Bridge Ops without losing any characters.

Directive 8020 contains several stealth-focused sequences, and this achievement is tied to one of the larger ones.

General stealth tips include:

  • Move slowly and patiently
  • Watch enemy patrol patterns
  • Use alternate routes when available
  • Listen carefully for audio cues
  • Avoid rushing interactions
  • Stay calm during chase sequences

One failed stealth moment can lead to delayed deaths later in the chapter.

Home Free

Requirement: Chart a course for Earth without any intruders on board.

This achievement is connected to one of the safer ending outcomes.

To earn it, you likely need to:

  • Remove all alien threats
  • Prevent hidden infiltrators from surviving
  • Avoid contamination outcomes
  • Make correct trust-related decisions during late-game scenes

If even one hostile organism remains aboard the ship, this achievement may fail.

Character Destiny Achievements

Directive 8020 introduces character destinies, which act similarly to personality systems from previous Supermassive titles.

Every major crew member has two opposing personality paths that develop through choices and dialogue.

Personality Manifest

Requirement: Unlock a Character Destiny.

This achievement is practically impossible to miss.

You will unlock your first destiny during Episode 1, especially during Carter’s early sequences.

All Possible Futures

Requirement: Unlock all Character Destinies.

This is one of the longest achievements in the game.

Each major character has two separate personality paths:

Brianna Young

  • Serious
  • Loyal

Nolan Stafford

  • Supportive
  • Resolute

Laura Eisele

  • Rational
  • Sympathetic

Samantha Cooper

  • Professional
  • Playful

Josef Cernan

  • Focused
  • Philosophical

The game tracks progress through bars in the Crew menu.

Because opposite personality paths conflict with one another, you will almost certainly need multiple partial playthroughs.

For example:

  • A highly rational Laura may never become sympathetic
  • A playful Samantha may lose professional progression

The Turning Point system helps massively here because you can replay important personality decisions quickly.

Messages to the Andromeda Achievements

These achievements are tied to Brianna Young’s communication choices later in the story.

This is Not a Place of Honor

Requirement: Young sends a warning to the Andromeda.

During the communication sequence, choose the warning option instead of requesting assistance.

Message in a Bottle

Requirement: Young sends an SOS to the Andromeda.

This is the opposite version of the previous achievement.

Instead of warning them away, choose the distress call option.

You can easily unlock both achievements using Turning Points.

Collectible Achievements

Directive 8020 includes two major collectible categories:

  • Secrets
  • Simms’ Recordings

Exploration matters a lot in this game, so always search rooms carefully before progressing.

No Stone Left Unturned

Requirement: Find all Secrets in the game.

There are 50 total secrets divided into several categories.

Secret Categories

  • Cassiopeia: 6
  • Cetus Mission: 10
  • Sleep Crew: 8
  • Conspiracy: 12
  • Science Crew: 5
  • Dark Future: 3
  • Flight Crew: 6

Thankfully, the game tracks collectibles very well.

You can:

  • Check missing totals in the menu
  • See which chapter contains missing collectibles
  • Replay specific sections with Turning Points

Always inspect optional rooms and side paths.

Dear Mum

Requirement: Find all Simms’ Recordings.

There are 10 recordings hidden throughout the game.

These logs provide extra background information about Simms and the Cassiopeia mission before the main disaster escalates.

Some recordings are hidden in optional areas, so thorough exploration is important.

O Death

Requirement: Find all Curator’s Secrets.

Like previous Dark Pictures games, the Curator still hides special secrets throughout the story.

These are usually located:

  • In hidden corners
  • Along optional paths
  • Inside side rooms
  • Near environmental interactions

Never rush exploration sections if you are aiming for 100%.

Story Achievements

These achievements unlock naturally through progression.

Wake-up Crew

Requirement: Complete Episode 1.

Unmissable.

Cycle Complete

Requirement: Complete all 8 episodes.

Finish the story once to unlock this achievement.

Not Today, Boss

Requirement: Cernan escapes Williams without being caught.

This happens early in Episode 3 during the “No Games” section.

You must avoid the alien disguised as Williams during a stealth sequence.

Key tips:

  • Move carefully between rooms
  • Use vents when available
  • Open alternate routes
  • Avoid direct line of sight
  • Stay patient during movement sections

If Williams catches you at any point, the achievement fails.

This is one of the more stressful stealth scenes in the game.

Social Butterfly

Requirement: Message every crew member.

Directive 8020 includes a built-in communicator system.

During exploration sections, open the messaging menu and contact every crew member at least once.

Controls include:

  • M on keyboard
  • Triangle on PlayStation
  • Y on Xbox and Steam Deck

Not every character becomes available immediately, so continue checking throughout the story.

This achievement is easy to miss because the messaging system is optional.

Thumb on the Last Page

Requirement: Use a Turning Point to change your path.

This achievement is extremely simple.

Pause the game, open the Turning Point menu, rewind a major choice, and pick the alternate option.

Most players will unlock this naturally while working on other achievements.
