DragonSword Awakening Hegan Dark Necromancer Boss Guide

If you’ve reached Hegan the Dark Necromancer, there’s a good chance you’ve already experienced the most frustrating part of the fight. You get his health down, feel like you’re about to win, and then suddenly… his HP jumps back up as if all your hard work never happened.

The first time this happened to me, I honestly thought I wasn’t dealing enough damage. Turns out, damage isn’t the problem at all. This boss has a special mechanic that you have to understand, and once you know how it works, the fight becomes much easier.

This guide explains exactly what Hegan is doing, how to stop his healing, and the easiest way to finish the encounter without wasting time.

DragonSword Awakening Hegan the Dark Necromancer Boss Guide

The biggest challenge in this fight isn’t surviving Hegan’s attacks—it’s preventing him from restoring his health.

During the battle, you’ll eventually break Hegan’s stance (sometimes called a Break phase). When this happens, something unusual occurs.

A ghost is forced out of Hegan’s body, and at that moment both Hegan and the ghost become completely invulnerable. You can’t damage either of them, so attacking wildly won’t accomplish anything.

If you simply wait, the ghost eventually flies back, Hegan absorbs it, and a large portion of his health is restored.

That’s the mechanic you need to interrupt.

What You Should Do During the Break Phase

Instead of chasing Hegan or trying to attack the ghost, immediately start looking around the arena.

You’ll notice a glowing training dummy (or glowing target) that stands out from everything else.

This glowing dummy is actually the key to stopping Hegan’s regeneration.

As soon as you spot it:

  • Ignore Hegan.
  • Ignore the ghost.
  • Focus all your attacks on the glowing dummy.

Breaking this object is what prevents Hegan from healing.

Keep the Dummy Destroyed

Breaking the dummy once isn’t always enough.

Continue attacking it so it stays destroyed while the ghost is still moving around.

When the ghost finally returns, instead of restoring Hegan’s health, Hegan swaps places with the broken dummy.

The result is exactly what you’re looking for:

  • Hegan gets knocked down.
  • His healing is cancelled.
  • You get a free opportunity to deal damage before he recovers.

Missing this step is why many players think the boss is bugged or impossible.

Repeat the Process Until the Fight Ends

The encounter follows the same pattern every time.

Whenever Hegan enters another Break phase:

  1. Wait for the ghost to appear.
  2. Find the glowing dummy.
  3. Destroy and keep damaging the dummy.
  4. Let Hegan swap places with it.
  5. Attack Hegan while he’s knocked down.

Keep repeating these steps each time the mechanic appears, and eventually Hegan will go down for good.

There’s no hidden second trick or complicated strategy beyond this.

Extra Tips for an Easier Fight

Save your strongest abilities

Avoid using your biggest cooldowns right before the Break phase. Instead, save them for when Hegan is knocked down after the dummy mechanic. That’s when you’ll get the most value from your burst damage.

Don’t panic when Hegan becomes invincible

Seeing both Hegan and the ghost become immune can be confusing the first time. Resist the urge to keep swinging at them. The game wants you to interact with the glowing dummy instead.

Watch the arena

The glowing dummy is much easier to notice if you’re already scanning the arena as soon as Hegan enters his Break phase. The faster you find it, the smoother the fight becomes.

Why Hegan Keeps Regenerating

If Hegan keeps recovering health every attempt, one of these is usually the reason:

  • You ignored the glowing dummy.
  • The dummy wasn’t fully broken.
  • You stopped attacking the dummy before the ghost returned.
  • You waited for the ghost instead of interacting with the arena mechanic.

Fixing any of these mistakes should stop his regeneration.

Hegan the Dark Necromancer feels intimidating at first, mostly because the game doesn’t clearly explain what’s happening during his healing phase. Once you realise the glowing dummy is the entire puzzle, the fight becomes much more straightforward.

The next time you see the ghost leave Hegan’s body, don’t waste time attacking invincible enemies. Head straight for the glowing dummy, keep it broken, and Hegan will return knocked down instead of fully healed.

Master that one mechanic, and this boss becomes one of the easier encounters to farm whenever he respawns.
