Runes are one of those systems that look simple at first… but once you understand them, they become one of the strongest power systems in the game.
They give you direct stat boosts like attack, HP, crit damage—but the real magic happens when you combine them into Runewords.
Think of it like this:
- Single rune = small boost
- Runeword = massive power spike
If you ignore runes, you’re basically playing at half strength later on.
Rune Types and Their Stats
Each rune type focuses on a specific stat, and every rune has 4 tiers (T1 → T4), getting stronger each time.
Core Rune Categories
Attack Runes (Best for Damage Builds)
- RYS → LUM → ORT → VEX
- Gives raw attack power
- Farmed from Ironwood
HP Runes (Tank / Survivability)
- GOR → BOL → TES → WAR
- Big health boosts
- Found from bosses like Sun Boy / Kangaroo
Crit Damage Runes (Burst Builds)
- WOM → SIRC → APEX → (end-tier)
- Huge damage scaling
- Comes from Thorium
Physical Defense Runes (Survivability Scaling)
- KI → WER → ANG → YUR
- Mostly from Act 1 Hard
Resource & Progression Runes
These are the ones people underestimate… but they carry your late game.
Mining Power
- FUS → YIT → SKO → MIN
- Helps gathering speed
Woodcutting Power
- NIL → DOT → WIR → GRO
- Same idea for wood
Gold Multiplier
- MU → RO → FON → FAL
- More gold = faster upgrades
All EXP Runes
- HAS → OLU → SUR → TYR
- One of the BEST rune types long-term
Special Rune Type
PRE (Magic Find Rune)
- +Magic Find
- +Offline Gains
- +Attack
This is the only rune you mainly get from upgrades, not farming—and it’s insanely valuable.
Best Runewords
This is where things get serious.
Runewords are specific combinations of runes that unlock bonus effects way stronger than individual stats.
Early Game Runeword
GOR + MU + HAS
- +200 HP
- +10% EXP
- Faster portal progression
Great starter setup to boost survivability and leveling.
Crit Build Runeword
APEX + SIRC + WER
- +10% Crit Chance
- +60% Crit Damage
- +Magic Find
Perfect if you’re going for burst damage builds.
Hybrid Damage + XP (Top Tier)
TYR + SUR + VEX + LUM
- +50% EXP
- +300 Attack
- +5% Offline Gains
This is one of the strongest all-around runewords in the game.
Gold Farming Runeword
FAL + FAL + TES + WAR
- +50% Gold Multiplier
- +400 HP
- +Magic Find
Best for scaling your economy fast.
Gathering Runeword (Underrated)
DOT + WIR + YUR + SKO
- +100 Mining & Woodcutting
- +40 Multi-loot
Huge for resource farming efficiency.
Endgame Hybrid Runeword
WAR + YUR + GRO + MIN + TYR + FAL
- +10% Offline Gains
- ×1.5 Attack
- +20 Magic Find
This is where everything starts scaling together.
Premium Rune Setup (Best Overall)
6× PRE Runes
- +200 Attack
- +20 Magic Find
- +20% Offline Gains
- +2 Portal Kills
This is basically endgame meta.
+2 Portal Kills”
This confuses a lot of players.
It doesn’t give kills—it reduces the number of kills required to open portals.
So instead of grinding longer, you progress faster through maps.
Rune Merging Explained (Important)
You can upgrade runes by merging them—but there’s a catch.
Basic Rules
- Only identical runes can be merged
- Example: KI → WER → ANG → YUR
- You cannot mix different types
Merge Outcomes
You either:
- Succeed → get higher tier rune
- Fail → lose runes and keep only one
Yeah… it can hurt.
Success Rates
T1 → T2
- 3 runes = 50%
- 6 runes = 100%
T2 → T3
- 3 runes = 33%
- 9 runes = 100%
Full Upgrade Cost
To reach max tier:
- T1 → T4 can take up to 486 base runes
So yeah… this is a long-term grind.
Common Mistake
A lot of players think:
“If I upgrade runes, I’ll keep the same runeword”
That’s not how it works.
Runewords are recipes, not upgrades.
Example:
- GOR + MU + HAS = Runeword
- If you upgrade them → different runes → different recipe
So always plan your builds.
