Fields of Mistria 1.0 Update Patch Notes – Children, Rank

Fields of Mistria has officially reached Version 1.0, and this isn’t one of those updates where you log in, notice three new furniture pieces, and wonder what actually changed.

This is the full-release update, and there’s a lot here.

Marriage and weddings are finally available, NPC relationships can reach 10 Hearts, you can have children, the Town Repair storyline can be completed, Town Renown now goes all the way to 100, the Museum can be finished, Steam Achievements are live, and there are new quests, perks, furniture, cosmetics, music customization, and post-game progression.

The developers have also addressed one of the less glamorous—but arguably more important—parts of the game: performance. VRAM usage has reportedly been reduced by more than 50%, alongside additional optimization and fixes for older PCs.

So whether you’re returning to an old farm after Early Access or starting completely fresh for 1.0, here’s everything that changed in the Fields of Mistria 1.0 Update.

Fields of Mistria 1.0 Update Patch Notes – Children, Town Rank

Let’s get the enormous stuff out of the way first.

Version 1.0 adds or expands:

  • Marriage and weddings
  • Children and family planning
  • 10-Heart NPC relationships
  • Proposal Events
  • Engagements
  • Town Renown up to Level 100
  • Completion of the Town Repair Questline
  • Mistril Town Rank Event
  • Saturday Market Plaza Quest
  • Repair the Bell Tower Quest
  • Stillwell and Zorel at the Saturday Market
  • Complete Museum progression
  • Steam Achievements
  • Seven beta localizations
  • New perks
  • New Requests
  • New Museum Sets
  • New furniture and cosmetics
  • Farm and home music customization
  • House exterior customization
  • Big Chicken mount
  • Monster-themed Pet Skins

Marriage is obviously going to steal most of the attention, but there’s a surprising amount happening outside the romance system.

Marriage Is Finally Available

Yes, you can finally get married in Fields of Mistria.

The NPC Heart Level cap has increased to 10 Hearts, with new 10-Heart Proposal Events available for romanceable NPCs.

Once you’ve reached 10 Hearts with an NPC you’re dating, the Engagement Ring becomes available.

You don’t simply buy one from a shop, though.

The morning after reaching Heart Level 10, Elsie will deliver the Engagement Ring recipe to you.

Use the recipe scroll and you’ll permanently learn how to craft the ring at a Forge.

From there, you can start moving toward the proposal and wedding.

You Can See Every 10-Heart Event Before Choosing Who to Marry

This is a particularly nice touch for anyone dating multiple characters.

Reaching a 10-Heart Event doesn’t force you into an immediate decision.

You can actually view the 10-Heart events and collect the associated NPC Special Items before deciding who you ultimately want to marry.

The 10-Heart events can be retriggered using the Engagement Ring until you actually choose to propose and become engaged.

So you don’t need to panic about accidentally locking yourself into marriage just because you wanted to see somebody’s final romance event.

Take your time.

See the events.

Then make the potentially life-altering decision of which collection of pixels you want to spend the rest of your farming career with.

Weddings Can Be Customized

Getting engaged isn’t followed by an instant generic wedding either.

During the days leading up to the ceremony, you’ll have wedding planning conversations with your fiancé.

These allow you to customize different elements of the wedding, including things such as:

Flower color

Cake flavor

The meal served during the reception

Wedding Events and engagement dialogue have also been added, along with new wedding outfits.

It sounds like the developers wanted marriage to feel like an actual progression sequence rather than simply another relationship milestone.

You Can Kiss NPCs

There’s another relationship change that players have been waiting for.

You can now interact with NPCs you’re:

Dating

Engaged to

or

Married to

to kiss them.

Dates have also received a progression buff, with taking an NPC on a date now providing a larger increase to their Heart Level.

So if you’re working toward those new 10-Heart events, dates have become even more useful.

What Happens If You’re Dating Multiple NPCs?

Version 1.0 adds some interesting settings specifically for players who have been dating multiple characters.

By default, after you become engaged, other NPCs you’re dating will change from Dating to Best Friends.

You’ll also receive break-up letters and associated dialogue acknowledging what happened.

However, you now have options for changing this behavior.

You can disable the break-up letters and follow-up dialogue while still allowing the relationship statuses themselves to change.

Alternatively, you can disable the Dating → Best Friends status change entirely, effectively preventing those break-ups.

The relevant options become available through the engagement tutorial cutscene.

There’s one particularly important detail:

If you want to prevent the break-ups themselves, you need to toggle that option before confirming your engagement.

Don’t wait until afterward.

How to Have Children in Fields of Mistria

Children have finally been added as part of the 1.0 family system.

You won’t immediately receive the option the morning after your wedding.

Instead, sometime in the weeks following your marriage, you’ll receive a cutscene involving a new item called the Mystical Feather.

The Mystical Feather allows you to initiate an optional family planning discussion.

The optional part is important.

Marriage doesn’t force your character into having children. Players who want to expand their family can pursue the system, while those who don’t can simply continue their married life without doing so.

There are also new events associated with having a child, alongside the new post-marriage NPC dialogue and routines.

Post-Marriage NPC Routines Have Been Added

Marriage isn’t simply a final cutscene followed by your spouse behaving exactly as they did before.

Version 1.0 introduces post-marriage dialogue and NPC routines, giving married characters additional behavior appropriate to your new relationship.

New general dialogue has also been added across the game.

Considering how character-driven Fields of Mistria is, this might end up being one of those 1.0 additions that feels much bigger during an actual playthrough than it sounds in patch notes.

Town Renown Now Goes to Level 100

For players who have already pushed Mistria’s development as far as Early Access allowed, there’s finally somewhere new to go.

The Town Renown cap has been increased to 100.

The Mistril Town Rank Event has also been added.

On top of that, new Town Rank Quests provide additional guidance through existing progression.

This ties into another major 1.0 milestone:

The Town Repair Questline Can Finally Be Completed

The Town Repair storyline now has its conclusion.

Version 1.0 introduces additional progression including:

The Saturday Market Plaza Quest

and

Repair the Bell Tower Quest

So players returning with highly developed Early Access saves finally have new objectives pushing Mistria toward its completed state.

Stillwell Joins the Saturday Market

Stillwell can now be unlocked as part of the expanded Saturday Market content.

Once available, Stillwell gives you access to Mission Quests through his Mission Board at the Saturday Market.

That gives established farms another source of objectives beyond the standard progression and Request Board content.

New Requests have also been added to the regular Request Board.

Zorel and Song Crystals Explained

Zorel is another new addition to the Saturday Market.

Once you’ve unlocked Zorel, you’ll be able to purchase:

Crystal Resonators

and

Song Crystals

These introduce a new music customization system.

You can use them to change the music that plays around your farm and inside individual rooms of your home.

There are 10 new songs available through Song Crystals in Version 1.0.

And that’s not the only music addition.

A completely new winter song has been added, while four existing seasonal tracks can switch to special extended versions as you progress further through the game.

House Exterior Customization Is Finally Here

Interior decoration has always been a big part of making your Fields of Mistria farm feel personal, and now the outside of your home can get some attention too.

After you’ve fully upgraded your house, you’ll eventually receive a letter from Landen.

That unlocks house exterior customization through the Carpenter’s Shop.

You’ll then be able to choose from different exterior styles.

Just remember that this isn’t available immediately on a basic house. Full house upgrades are required first.

Big Chicken Mount Added

There’s a new mount.

It’s a Big Chicken.

I’m not sure this section needs much more explanation than that.

Version 1.0 adds the Big Chicken as another mount option, so apparently normal transportation around Mistria wasn’t quite majestic enough.

Monsters Can Become Pet Skins

This is probably one of my favorite strange additions in the update.

The Combat Perk Friend-Shaped now causes all monsters to drop Pet Skins.

These skins allow your pet to take on the appearance of the corresponding monster.

So fighting monsters isn’t solely about materials and combat progression anymore. If you want a particular monster appearance for your pet, you’ve now got another reason to hunt them.

Seven New Perks

Version 1.0 introduces seven additional perks spread across Cooking, Ranching, and Woodcrafting.

Cooking

Espresso Yourself

Ranching

Playtime

Eggstra

Close Bond II

True Trust

Woodcrafting

Hammer Timing IV

Deliberate Debris II

Ranching gets the biggest expansion here, with four of the seven new perks belonging to that skill.

The Museum Can Now Be Completed

Completionists finally have a proper finish line for the Museum.

The Museum can now be fully completed, and Museum Wing rooms can be entered so you can directly look through your collection.

Two additional Museum Sets have also been introduced:

Honey Set

A new collection based around honey-related items.

Terrarium Treasures Set

Another completely new set with its own associated reward.

The order of Museum donation notifications has also been cleaned up. When completing a set, its completion popup now appears directly after the popup for the corresponding donated item.

It’s a small change, but much easier to follow when you’re donating several things at once.

Steam Achievements Added

Steam Achievements are now officially part of Fields of Mistria.

If you’re continuing an Early Access save, you don’t need to redo everything just to earn achievements for progression you’ve already completed.

Achievements are awarded retroactively when you load an existing save and will populate according to the data contained in that save.

On the other hand, if you specifically want the experience of unlocking every achievement naturally from scratch, create a new save file instead.

Seven New Languages Added in Beta

Fields of Mistria 1.0 introduces beta localization support for seven languages:

  • Simplified Chinese
  • Traditional Chinese
  • French
  • Japanese
  • Korean
  • Russian
  • Spanish

These are described as beta localizations, so players should keep that status in mind when encountering translation issues.

A localization-related startup crash also appeared with the update and has already received a hotfix.

New Friday Night at the Inn Storyline

If you’ve completed the Mines Storyline, there’s additional Friday night content waiting for you.

Version 1.0 adds another Friday Night at the Inn storyline following the completion of the Mines storyline.

This is easy to overlook among all the marriage and endgame additions, so returning players should remember to check back in at the Inn.

New Furniture Sets

Decorators haven’t been forgotten.

Several new furniture collections have arrived, including:

Monster Set

Ornate Set

Bonsai Set

Dragon Set

and additional new items beyond those specifically highlighted.

Combined with exterior house customization and the new music system, 1.0 gives you quite a few more ways to personalize your farm and home.

New Cosmetics

There are new character customization options as well.

Some of the highlighted additions include:

Barrel Hat

Wedding Outfits

Beetle Mandible Horns

Dragonfly Wings

and more.

Wedding outfits obviously complement the new marriage system, while the other options continue the game’s tradition of letting your farmer become increasingly ridiculous if that’s what you’re going for.

Character Customization Is Easier

Here’s a small QoL change that should have been there all along:

You can rotate your character in the customization menu.

That makes checking hairstyles, clothing, wings, and other cosmetics from different angles considerably easier.

Mines Treasure Chests Have Better Drop Rates

Mining received some useful improvements.

Item drop rates from Mines treasure chests have been increased.

The spawn rates for Ritual Chambers and Treasure Rooms have also been adjusted so they appear more frequently.

If you’ve spent hours descending through the Mines waiting for the game to give you a specific treasure, this is one of the more immediately noticeable progression changes.

March’s 8-Heart Event Won’t Ruin Your Farm

This is a very specific fix that anyone familiar with March’s romance progression will appreciate.

During March’s 8-Heart Event, your:

Animals will automatically be fed

and

Crops will automatically be watered.

You can therefore enjoy the event without returning home and discovering that romance apparently came at the cost of basic agricultural responsibility.

Talking to NPCs Is Less Annoying

When several interactions overlap near an NPC, Speak now receives priority.

That should reduce situations where you’re standing directly beside someone, trying to talk to them, and repeatedly interacting with something else nearby instead.

It’s a small change on paper.

In everyday gameplay, these are often the QoL improvements you notice constantly.

New Graphics Settings

Version 1.0 expands the Graphics settings menu.

New options include brightness and saturation sliders, alongside additional settings for adjusting performance to better suit your machine.

That’s especially relevant when combined with the substantial technical optimization included in the update.

Fields of Mistria 1.0 Performance Improvements

The developers say Version 1.0 includes substantial performance improvements compared with the previous update.

Most notably:

VRAM usage has been reduced by more than 50%.

That’s a substantial reduction and should particularly benefit older machines and PCs with limited graphics memory.

Startup errors that prevented Fields of Mistria from launching on certain older PCs have also been addressed.

And a separate startup crash caused by the introduction of localized languages was fixed through the 1.0 hotfix.

If you previously struggled to run Fields of Mistria smoothly, it’s worth trying the game again after updating rather than assuming your old performance experience will remain unchanged.

Other Useful QoL Changes

There are quite a few smaller improvements hidden among the giant features.

Additional UI indicators have been introduced, including:

A directional arrow while placing furniture

An arrow above Mines ladders

A Talk icon above Caldarus’ Statue

The Birthday selection screen also now clearly displays “Select Your Birthday.”

Previously inaccessible cooking recipes have been made obtainable as well.

Visual and World Improvements

There are a handful of smaller environmental changes worth mentioning.

Cloud shadows can now appear outdoors during sunny weather.

Ryis’ Hawthorn tree received an intermediate growth stage.

The Bathhouse water wheel now animates.

Placeable Forge animations have also been restored.

None of these radically changes the game, but together they add a little more movement and polish to Mistria.

Major Bug Fixes in Fields of Mistria 1.0

Version 1.0 contains a pretty substantial bug-fixing pass alongside all the new content.

Some of the more noticeable fixes include:

  • You can no longer walk on water by diagonally moving into corners.
  • Pets being in an incorrect location while performing a job should no longer crash the game.
  • Harvest Festival scoring has been fixed so a winning number of Queen Berries won’t somehow result in second place.
  • Hayden’s weathervane correctly returns to his barn after completing Find the Weathervane.
  • Beach stepping stones now use stone footstep sound effects.
  • Certain popups have been widened to better fit their content.
  • Repeatedly ringing the Bell can no longer be abused to increase Ranching Skill.
  • Rock Stacks should no longer become stuck in idle animations.
  • Flame Spirits should no longer remain idle after attacking.
  • Rapidly scrolling through the Museum menu should no longer cause a rare crash.
  • Shooting Star Festival dialogue can no longer incorrectly trigger after midnight on Summer 27.
  • The Chicken Statue won’t give you cosmetics for animals you haven’t unlocked.
  • Equipping armor should properly unlock its associated cosmetic.
  • NPCs now eat the intended meals during specific cutscenes instead of receiving randomized food.
  • Tabbing back into the game during the End of Day camera pan should no longer cause rapid camera zooming.
  • NPC sub-icons have returned to Date Photos.
  • Several doorway situations where players could become stuck have been fixed.
  • Flying Tome depth has been corrected relative to its wind attack visual effects.

There are plenty of tiny fixes here, but combined with the optimization work, they make 1.0 much more than simply a content expansion.

Should You Start a New Save for Fields of Mistria 1.0?

You don’t need to.

Existing Early Access saves can continue into Version 1.0, and Steam Achievements are specifically designed to retroactively recognize things you’ve already accomplished.

That makes continuing an established farm particularly appealing if you’re eager to jump straight into Town Rank progression, 10-Heart relationships, marriage, the completed Museum, and the remaining Town Repair quests.

Starting fresh still has its advantages, though.

Fields of Mistria has changed considerably over the course of Early Access, and Version 1.0 now provides a complete progression path from the beginning. A fresh save also lets you unlock Steam Achievements naturally rather than having a bunch appear when your existing save loads.

Personally, if you’ve got an Early Access farm you’re attached to, I wouldn’t abandon it just because 1.0 arrived.

There’s plenty of new late-game content specifically designed for established players.

Fields of Mistria 1.0 Is Much More Than the Marriage Update

Marriage will probably be the headline feature—and understandably so—but the full update is considerably bigger.

The ability to finally finish the Town Repair Questline, push Town Renown to 100, complete the Museum, pursue 10-Heart Events, unlock additional Saturday Market characters, customize your house exterior and music, and continue NPC relationships into married life gives established saves a lot of new objectives.

Meanwhile, new players are getting what is essentially the first genuinely complete version of Fields of Mistria.

And perhaps most importantly, reaching Version 1.0 isn’t being treated as the end of development. The developers have described 1.0 as “only the beginning,” while continuing to request feedback from players.

For now, though, there is more than enough to keep returning farmers busy.

Especially if you’ve spent Early Access carefully deciding who you’re going to marry.

It’s finally time to make that decision.
