Fisch Obsidian Trench Update Guide – Codes, Skolopendra

If you thought Mariana’s Veil was already dangerous enough, Fisch has just given us another reason to head back into the depths. The new Obsidian Trench update expands Mariana’s Veil with a brand-new layer, new quests, mutations, fish, a dangerous boss encounter, and a completely new rod to work toward.

In this post, we’ll go through everything you need to know about the update, including how to start the Mariana’s Awakening questline, what the five layer descendants do, how to unlock the Obsidian Trench, and what you can expect once you finally make it inside. I’ll also explain the Veiled Charybdis and Skolopendra encounters so you know what you’re getting yourself into.

There’s quite a lot packed into this update, so if you’re planning to explore the new content yourself, you’ll want to know the basic progression before diving in. We’ll also cover the new Chasm-Stalker Rod, the expanded Mariana’s Veil bestiary, the new species, and the latest code you can redeem.

Fisch Obsidian Trench Update Guide – Codes, Skolopendra

To begin the new content, you’ll first need to head over to Roslit Bay and speak with Vaelor.

Vaelor will send you on a mission to investigate glowing mineral veins that have appeared throughout all five layers of Mariana’s Veil. This is basically the starting point for the entire new progression, so make sure you speak with him before heading deep into the area.

As you progress through the questline, you’ll encounter five different descendants of Vaelor. Each descendant is connected to one of Mariana’s Veil layers and has their own specialized mutation quests for you to complete.

The five descendants are:

  • Ignis — Volcanic Vents
  • Glacius — Challenger’s Deep
  • Tenebris — Abyssal Zenith
  • Luminis — Calm Zone
  • Resonus — Veil of the Forsaken

You’ll need to work through these quests as you investigate the different layers. So, rather than simply entering the new area immediately, the update makes you explore Mariana’s Veil and complete the required objectives first.

The Five Layer Descendants

Each descendant guards one of the five existing layers, meaning you’ll be moving around Mariana’s Veil quite a bit during this part of the update.

Ignis — Volcanic Vents

Ignis is connected to the Volcanic Vents layer. You’ll need to complete the mutation-related quest associated with this descendant as part of the larger Mariana’s Awakening progression.

Glacius — Challenger’s Deep

Glacius watches over Challenger’s Deep. This is another required stop while you investigate the strange glowing mineral veins appearing throughout the region.

Tenebris — Abyssal Zenith

Tenebris is associated with the Abyssal Zenith layer. As with the other descendants, you’ll need to complete the specialized quest tied to this area.

Luminis — Calm Zone

Luminis can be found in connection with the Calm Zone. Don’t let the name fool you, though—you’re still working toward unlocking one of the most dangerous areas added in this update.

Resonus — Veil of the Forsaken

Finally, there’s Resonus, who is connected to the Veil of the Forsaken. Completing the required quests from all five descendants is an important part of progressing toward the Obsidian Trench.

Crevice Wall Riddles and the Abyss Gate

Once you’ve made your way through the required progression, you’ll eventually discover something known as the Crevice Wall.

This is where things become a little more mysterious.

The Crevice Wall contains an active riddle that you’ll need to decipher. You can’t simply walk through and enter the new layer without solving the puzzle.

After figuring out the riddle, you’ll need to ignite all of the layer gems.

Once the required gems have been activated, the path to the Abyss Gate and eventually the Obsidian Trench becomes accessible.

You’ll also earn Gauntlets for completing the associated quests, so make sure you don’t skip the objectives along the way.

Entering the Obsidian Trench

The biggest addition in this update is obviously the Obsidian Trench.

This is a completely new layer hidden within the depths of Mariana’s Veil, and the environment is filled with dark crystals that immediately make the area feel different from the other layers.

But there’s a major problem when you first enter.

What Is Trench Suppression?

Upon entering the Obsidian Trench, you’ll be affected by a new environmental debuff called Trench Suppression.

This suppression makes exploring the trench much more dangerous, so you can’t simply stay inside forever without managing it.

Fortunately, there’s a way to temporarily reduce it.

While exploring the trench, look for the glowing white crystals scattered around the area. Interacting with these crystals will temporarily purge your suppression levels.

So, when you’re exploring, keep an eye out for these white crystals. They can make the difference between safely continuing your exploration and getting overwhelmed by the trench’s environmental effects.

Veiled Charybdis

The Obsidian Trench isn’t just about catching new fish. There’s also a new dangerous encounter involving Charybdis.

You can hook Charybdis in the rivers inside the trench. Doing this starts a special reeling minigame that you’ll need to complete without getting dragged into the deadly waters.

This isn’t going to be a normal fishing encounter where you can casually reel the fish in.

Watch Out for the Whirlpools

During the Veiled Charybdis encounter, you’ll need to watch out for whirlpools.

These whirlpools can strip away your rod control, making it much harder to keep control of the catch.

You’ll need to pay attention to what’s happening during the minigame and avoid losing control at the wrong moment.

If you manage to catch enough Veiled Charybdis, things get even more interesting.

How to Awaken Skolopendra

After catching around 4–6 Veiled Charybdis, all of the crystals around the Obsidian Trench will turn deep red.

This signals that something much bigger is about to happen.

The awakening of the red crystals causes Skolopendra to appear.

Skolopendra is the major boss encounter connected to the Obsidian Trench, so this is essentially where the update’s progression reaches its big showdown.

Skolopendra Boss Minigame

The fight against Skolopendra uses another special boss minigame.

There are mysterious effects involved during the encounter, so you’ll need to pay attention rather than treating it like an ordinary fishing catch.

Defeating Skolopendra is also important because it unlocks access to one of the biggest rewards from the entire update.

Chasm-Stalker Rod

Once you’ve conquered the Obsidian Trench and defeated Skolopendra, you can finally work toward the new Chasm-Stalker Rod.

This is one of the main reasons you’ll want to complete the new content.

The Chasm-Stalker Rod comes with a new mutation and several very strong passive abilities. It also introduces something completely different from the normal rod progression.

New Streak System

The Chasm-Stalker has its own unique streak system.

This system is exclusive to the rod and gives it another mechanic to work around while you’re fishing.

So if you’re someone who enjoys trying out new rods and building around their unique abilities, the Chasm-Stalker is definitely something you’ll want to add to your collection after completing the Obsidian Trench progression.

New Obsidian Trench Fish

The Obsidian Trench also comes with a brand-new bestiary.

There are 12 new species waiting to be discovered inside the trench, including two hidden catches.

The known species are:

  • Obsidian Gaveltooth
  • Cinder-Crust Gar
  • Scoria Scorpionfish
  • Shatter-Tooth Shark
  • Magma-Glass Marlin
  • Tectonic Toadfish
  • Ash-Cloud Angelfish
  • Shatterjaw Shark
  • Pumice Puffer
  • Basalt Behemoth
  • 2 hidden catches

If you’re trying to complete your bestiary, you’ll have quite a bit of fishing to do inside the new layer.

New Species Across Mariana’s Veil

The update doesn’t only add fish to the Obsidian Trench.

Several existing layers of Mariana’s Veil have also received new species. There are 10 additional species spread throughout the existing layers.

The new catches include:

  • Charred Coelacanth
  • Obsidian-Plated Piranha
  • Glacial Gulper
  • Hoarfrost Halibut
  • Lumin-Lure Lanternfish
  • Void-Drifter Jelly
  • Geode Grouper
  • Pearl-Plated Pleco
  • Gargoyle Goby
  • Wraith-Whisper Ray

So even if you aren’t ready to tackle the Obsidian Trench immediately, there’s still new bestiary progress waiting for you throughout Mariana’s Veil.

Fisch Obsidian Trench Update Code

There’s also a new code you can redeem with this update.

The code is:

MarianaIsGoingCrazy

Make sure you redeem it while it’s active, because update codes can eventually expire.

FischFright 3 Leaks Are Coming

The developers have also teased that FischFright 3 leaks are coming over the next few weeks.

That means we could start getting more information about the upcoming Halloween content soon.

If you’re a Fisch player who likes keeping up with upcoming updates, this is definitely something worth watching because more information should appear as we get closer.

There’s also a tease that Nate’s quest is coming soon, so the current update may not be the only major content we get in the near future.

The Obsidian Trench update gives Mariana’s Veil a lot more to explore. You have the five descendant quests, the Crevice Wall riddle, layer gems, the Abyss Gate, a completely new trench layer, Trench Suppression, Veiled Charybdis, the Skolopendra boss, and finally the Chasm-Stalker Rod.

If you’re starting the update from scratch, I’d recommend taking your time with the progression instead of rushing straight toward the boss. Explore the different layers, complete the descendant quests, learn how the suppression system works, and keep an eye out for the white crystals when you enter the trench.

And once you’re ready, start working toward those Veiled Charybdis catches. Catch enough of them, survive the Skolopendra encounter, and you’ll be one step closer to getting your hands on the new Chasm-Stalker Rod.
