Fisch The Deep Update Guide – New Rods, Deep City, Codes

The newest Fisch update has finally dropped, and there is a lot packed into The Deep. This isn’t just another small area with a few new fish either. The update introduces an entire underwater expansion with a massive ancient city, new fishing equipment, harpoon weapons, new bestiaries, low-gravity movement, dangerous roaming fish, quests, crafting materials, and a huge creature hunt.

And if you’re anything like me, the first thing you’ll probably want to know is where exactly The Deep is and what you’re supposed to do once you get there. There’s quite a bit going on, so let’s break everything down.

Fisch The Deep Update Guide – New Rods, Deep City, Harpoon Guns, Monstrous Cusk & Code

The Deep is a massive underwater expansion centered around a lost ancient city surrounded by enormous abyssal trenches.

The city itself is breathable, which makes it much easier to explore than you might initially expect. You’ll find different districts throughout the city, along with residents, specialists, and merchants.

These NPCs aren’t just there to fill the area, either. They offer new quests, rewards, and material exchanges, so you’ll want to talk to as many of them as possible when you first arrive.

The surrounding trenches are where things get much more dangerous.

New Fishing Rods in The Deep

Naturally, The Deep comes with a collection of brand-new fishing rods.

The update adds:

  • Luminous Rod
  • Titanium Rod
  • Scalding Hook
  • Cusk Purger

These rods are part of the new progression in The Deep, so if you’re trying to get the most out of the expansion, you’ll definitely want to start working toward them.

Some of the new equipment is also connected to the creatures and challenges found deeper within the underwater areas.

New Harpoon Guns and Spears

Fishing isn’t the only way you’ll be dealing with creatures in The Deep.

The update introduces Harpoon Guns and Spears, giving you completely new ways to interact with the dangerous creatures roaming around the trenches.

The new ranged equipment includes:

  • Scrap-Cannon
  • Titanic Scalder
  • Sightless Oracle
  • Prism Spear

You can also equip bait directly onto your ranged gear, which adds another interesting layer to the new equipment system.

So, if you’re heading into the more dangerous parts of The Deep, don’t think of your fishing rod as your only tool anymore.

Three New Bestiaries

The Deep also adds three brand-new bestiaries for you to complete.

There are 60+ new fish species to discover throughout the expansion, and one cool detail is that the new fish are based on real-life species.

If you’re a completionist, you’re going to have plenty of work ahead of you.

Don’t expect every fish to be sitting around in the safest part of the city, either. Some of the rarer species are found in the deeper and darker areas of the expansion.

Low-Gravity Seafloor Movement

One of the most interesting mechanics in The Deep is the new low-gravity seafloor movement.

To use it, you’ll need the restored Deep Survey Device.

Once you have the device equipped, you can switch from normal swimming to walking across the ocean floor.

This makes exploring the trenches feel completely different.

And here’s the part I really like: you can actually cast your fishing rod while walking underwater.

Your bobber will slowly float upward, with its movement adjusted according to your lure speed.

So you aren’t forced to stop moving every time you want to fish. You can explore the seafloor while continuing to fish, which makes the new underwater gameplay much more flexible.

Dangerous Roaming Fish

The trenches aren’t exactly a relaxing fishing spot.

There are Dangerous Roaming Fish swimming throughout The Deep, and they can deal contact damage if you aren’t careful.

This is one of the reasons the new harpoon equipment matters.

If you’re exploring an unfamiliar trench and suddenly see one of these creatures coming toward you, don’t just swim straight into it. Keep your distance and be ready to use your equipment.

Sector Beacons and Grid Outages

Another major part of the expansion is the Sector Beacon system.

You’ll work with Chief Engineer Nereus to synthesize special beacon cores and repair the outer beacon towers.

The power situation in The Deep isn’t exactly reliable, and restoring these towers is one of the ways you’ll help bring the different sectors back under control.

Once a beacon tower is restored, it will permanently illuminate its sector.

But there’s another benefit that’s even more useful.

Restoring the beacon also reduces fish hostility in that sector.

So if you’re having trouble with aggressive creatures while exploring, repairing the nearby beacon should make things considerably easier.

The Gloomy Crevice

If you want to explore one of the more mysterious parts of the expansion, you’ll eventually want to visit the Gloomy Crevice.

There’s a catch, though.

You’ll need to upgrade your Deep Survey Device to MK II first.

This unlocks the Light Module, which is extremely important because visibility inside the crevice can drop to practically zero.

The Gloomy Crevice is filled with ruined infrastructure and hidden areas, and there are rare deep-dwelling fish waiting to be discovered.

So if you’re trying to complete all three bestiaries, this is an area you’re definitely going to have to explore.

How to Start the Monstrous Cusk Hunt

The Deep also has its own massive creature encounter: the Monstrous Cusk.

To trigger this hunt, you first need to catch Faceless Cusks inside the Gloomy Crevice.

Once you’ve done that, you’ll trigger the awakening of the massive Monstrous Cusk.

And this isn’t a normal fishing encounter.

Instead, you’ll have to take part in a multi-stage harpoon pursuit.

How to Defeat the Monstrous Cusk

Once the Monstrous Cusk awakens, it begins swimming toward Deep City.

Your job is to slow it down before it reaches the city.

You’ll need to use your harpoon equipment during the pursuit, and where you aim matters.

You can target the creature’s flanks to slow it down, while aiming for the head can also play an important role in the fight.

This makes the encounter feel much more like a proper boss battle than traditional Fisch fishing.

Once you successfully defeat the Monstrous Cusk, you’ll be able to claim its tooth as a reward.

Material Drops and Stat Chips

The new catches in The Deep aren’t only useful for completing bestiaries.

You can also obtain raw materials from your catches, including rare variants.

These materials are used for the new crafting and progression systems.

You can also install Stat Chips onto your Survey Device.

These chips allow you to improve different stats, including:

  • Harpoon Gun Accuracy
  • Harpoon Gun Range
  • Resilience
  • Power

This gives you some flexibility when building your equipment. Depending on what you’re doing in The Deep, you can focus on the stats that are actually useful for your playstyle.

Scrap-Bot and New Quests

Another interesting addition is Scrap-Bot.

To unlock it, you’ll need to complete Tinkerer Orik’s request.

Once unlocked, Scrap-Bot becomes a companion that can passively retrieve materials and catch fish.

That can save you a decent amount of time if you’re farming resources in The Deep, especially when you’re trying to collect materials for upgrades.

There are also new quests throughout Deep City, so make sure you’re talking to the residents rather than ignoring the NPCs.

Citizen Bounty Board

The Deep also has a Citizen Bounty Board where you can take on time-limited tasks.

These bounties can reward you with:

  • C$
  • XP
  • Additional materials

It’s worth checking the board regularly because you can often work on these tasks while doing your normal exploration and fishing.

New Rewards

The residents of The Deep aren’t only handing out basic resources.

You can also earn a range of exclusive rewards, including:

  • Titles
  • Lanterns
  • Bobbers
  • Rod skins
  • New boats

So there’s plenty to work toward even after you’ve experienced the main mechanics of the update.

New Fisch Code

Of course, we also have a new code to use.

The current code is:

TheDeepIsVeryDeep

Make sure you enter it exactly as shown.

If you’re starting The Deep update, I’d recommend redeeming the code before you begin your grind so you don’t accidentally forget about the free rewards.

The Deep is easily one of the more substantial Fisch updates because it doesn’t just throw a few new fish into the game and call it a day. You’ve got a completely new underwater environment, an ancient city, new rods, harpoons, spears, bestiaries, crafting materials, Survey Device upgrades, beacon restoration, dangerous roaming fish, and an actual Monstrous Cusk hunt.

I’d definitely recommend taking your time with this one. There’s a lot to discover, and rushing straight toward one particular reward means you’ll probably miss some of the smaller systems that make The Deep interesting.

And before you start exploring, don’t forget the new code:

TheDeepIsVeryDeep

Good luck down there — and maybe don’t let the giant Cusk make it all the way back to the city.
