How Many Dudes Enemy Traits Guide – Effects, Stats

Enemy Traits are special passive abilities that make enemies much more dangerous than their basic stats suggest. While some creatures simply run toward your team and attack, many have unique mechanics that can interrupt your formation, reduce your damage, ignore your tanks, or become significantly stronger as the fight continues.

Learning what each trait does is one of the biggest steps toward surviving harder stages. Many failed runs aren’t caused by low-level Dudes, but by misunderstanding which enemies should be eliminated first.

Below is a complete explanation of every enemy trait currently available in How Many Dudes, along with practical tips that make them much easier to deal with.

Apes Together Strong

Enemies with Apes Together Strong become stronger the more Gorilla-type enemies are alive.

Every Gorilla currently active gives the creature an additional 1% Attack Power, and this bonus stacks continuously throughout the fight. A single Gorilla is manageable, but large Gorilla packs become surprisingly dangerous because every member is buffing every other member at the same time.

If you encounter several Gorilla enemies together, try eliminating them one at a time as quickly as possible. Every Gorilla you defeat immediately reduces the damage output of the remaining ones.

Backhand

The Backhand trait gives every normal attack a 25% chance to throw its primary target an extremely long distance.

Being thrown is more dangerous than it initially sounds. Your Dude may land far away from healers, become surrounded by enemies, or be forced to waste time running back into formation.

Backhand becomes especially dangerous when multiple enemies have it because your frontline can spend more time flying through the air than actually fighting.

Bite Instinct

Enemies with Bite Instinct automatically react whenever a Dude lands near them after being thrown.

Instead of waiting for their normal attack timer, they immediately perform an extra attack on the unfortunate target.

This creates powerful combinations with other enemies that specialize in throwing Dudes around the battlefield. One enemy launches your character, while another instantly attacks as soon as you land.

If you notice Bite Instinct enemies mixed into a throwing-heavy stage, defeating them early can dramatically reduce incoming damage.

Body Positivity

This trait belongs to segmented creatures.

Instead of allowing head damage normally, 99% of all damage dealt to the head is transferred to the creature’s last body segment until every segment has been destroyed.

This means attacking the head barely accomplishes anything while body segments still exist.

Always focus on destroying the body first before expecting meaningful damage against the head.

Cavitation Bubble

Each attack has a 5% chance to create an explosion around the target.

The explosion damages nearby Dudes and throws everyone caught within the blast radius.

Although the chance looks small, creatures attacking very quickly can trigger these explosions surprisingly often over long battles.

Keeping your team spread out whenever possible helps reduce the number of Dudes caught inside each explosion.

Charger

Enemies with Charger occasionally sprint across the battlefield.

During the charge they damage every Dude they pass through while throwing them aside.

Besides dealing damage, this completely disrupts your positioning. Tanks can be separated from healers, ranged attackers can be knocked into danger, and your formation may require several seconds to recover.

These enemies become much more threatening in crowded battles where there is little room to reposition.

Don’t Care

Despite the unusual name, this trait is very straightforward.

Enemies gain 80% Taunt Resistance, making taunt effects significantly less reliable.

Your tanks will still occasionally pull their attention, but not nearly as consistently as against normal enemies.

Because of this, Don’t Care enemies often slip past the frontline and attack vulnerable Dudes in the back.

Evasive

Enemies with Evasive cannot be targeted by Cleave attacks.

If your team relies heavily on Cleave damage to eliminate groups of enemies, these creatures will completely avoid that damage source.

Single-target attackers become much more valuable whenever Evasive enemies begin appearing.

Food Thief

Food Thief completely ignores one of the game’s strongest defensive mechanics.

These enemies cannot be taunted, and instead prioritize attacking Dudes who have recently eaten food.

This makes food buffs slightly risky if Food Thief enemies are present because the buffed Dude instantly becomes the creature’s favorite target.

Protect any important damage dealers that receive food bonuses during these encounters.

Hangry

Unlike Charger, Hangry activates immediately when the battle starts.

As soon as combat begins, the creature rampages across the battlefield, damaging and throwing every Dude in its path.

The opening seconds of the battle can become extremely chaotic because your team may lose its positioning before anyone even starts attacking normally.

Preparing for this initial disruption is often more important than the rest of the fight.

Hellfire

Every attack has a 20% chance to launch a fireball toward a random Dude.

The Hellfire projectile explodes on impact, damaging every Dude standing nearby.

Since the target is chosen randomly, even carefully protected backline characters aren’t completely safe.

Grouping too many important Dudes together increases the value of every Hellfire explosion.

Huge

Huge enemies are exactly what they sound like.

Their enormous size makes them completely immune to both Throw and Stun effects.

Many crowd-control strategies simply do not work against them, meaning you’ll need enough raw damage and survivability to defeat them normally.

Whenever a Huge enemy appears, don’t rely on abilities that interrupt enemy movement.

Hunter

Hunter enemies constantly look for weakness.

Whenever they notice an injured Dude, they may dash directly toward that target, attacking continuously for around 2 seconds.

During this time they also become immune to taunts, meaning tanks cannot pull them away until the attack finishes.

Low-health ranged characters are especially vulnerable to Hunter enemies, so healing them quickly becomes extremely important.

Knife Wielder

Knife Wielder increases attack penetration by granting 15% Piercing.

Piercing allows more damage to bypass defenses, making every hit noticeably more painful against armored or durable Dudes.

While the bonus isn’t enormous, it becomes very noticeable over long battles where dozens of attacks are exchanged.

Marrow Eater

Whenever a Dude is knocked out and fails to recover, Marrow Eater permanently becomes stronger.

Each failed recovery grants:

  • 2% Attack Power
  • 10% Run Speed

These bonuses stack up to 10 times during the same battle.

If several Dudes permanently die early, Marrow Eater enemies quickly become some of the strongest threats on the battlefield.

Preventing permanent knockouts is the best way to stop this trait from snowballing.

Mudslinger

Every attack has a 30% chance to throw mud at a random Dude.

Anyone standing near the impact gains 15% Miss Chance for two seconds.

Instead of increasing enemy defense, Mudslinger lowers your team’s accuracy, reducing overall damage output.

During long boss fights this missed damage adds up surprisingly quickly.

Pack Mentality

Pack Mentality allows enemies of the same type to protect one another.

Whenever one creature takes damage, 30% of that damage is transferred and split between two nearby creatures of the same species.

This dramatically increases the group’s effective health pool.

Large packs become much harder to eliminate because every attack is partially shared among multiple targets.

Area damage performs much better against Pack Mentality than focusing one enemy at a time.

Panicky

When health drops below 30%, Panicky enemies completely lose control.

They begin running wildly around the battlefield, damaging everyone they collide with for 20% of their Attack Power while throwing affected Dudes.

Ironically, enemies become more dangerous just before dying.

Don’t underestimate nearly defeated Panicky enemies, since they can still disrupt your entire formation.

Peck

Each successful attack has a 10% chance to apply 10% Miss Chance for two seconds.

Although the duration is short, repeated applications can significantly reduce your team’s overall damage.

Fast-attacking Peck enemies refresh this debuff often enough that it may remain active throughout much of the battle.

Phased

Whenever this enemy attacks, there is a 20% chance it instantly teleports beside a random Dude before striking.

This allows the creature to bypass tanks entirely and appear directly next to fragile backline characters.

Because the destination is random, positioning alone cannot completely prevent these surprise attacks.

Keeping healers alive is particularly important whenever Phased enemies are present.

Pinch

Each attack has a 10% chance to latch onto the target for 3 seconds.

While attached, the creature deals damage equal to 75% of its DPS every half-second.

This continuous damage quickly adds up and becomes extremely dangerous if several Pinch enemies attach to the same Dude simultaneously.

Removing these enemies early greatly reduces sustained damage during extended fights.

Plagued

Every successful attack spreads the Plague.

Each stack reduces the target’s Healing Received by 1% for 5 seconds, stacking up to 10 times.

A fully stacked Plague reduces incoming healing by 10%, making it increasingly difficult to keep important Dudes alive.

Long battles naturally allow more stacks to accumulate, making Plagued enemies stronger the longer they survive.

Pounce

Pounce combines throwing and aggressive follow-up attacks.

The creature occasionally throws a Dude a considerable distance before immediately leaping toward the same target.

This prevents the victim from safely escaping after the throw and often isolates them away from allies.

Backline Dudes are particularly vulnerable because they usually receive little protection after being launched away.

Primal Rage

Once health falls below 30%, the creature unleashes a roar.

The roar immediately destroys nearby Temporary Health before permanently gaining 20% Attack Power for the remainder of the battle.

Players who rely heavily on Temporary Health shields will notice this trait removes much of their defensive advantage.

Saving burst damage to finish these enemies before they spend too long enraged is often worthwhile.

Proud

Proud only affects Lions and Lionesses.

Whenever either one dies, every remaining Lion gains an independently stacking 10% Attack Power buff for 10 seconds.

The more Lions that die, the stronger the survivors become.

Sometimes eliminating several Lions too quickly can briefly create an extremely dangerous final survivor, so be prepared for its increased damage.

Quack Blast

This creature periodically releases an enormous quack that creates a traveling shockwave.

Every Dude caught by the wave is thrown across the battlefield.

Although the attack may not always deal massive damage, the repeated disruption can ruin carefully positioned formations and interrupt attacks.

Watching the direction of the shockwave helps minimize unnecessary chaos.

Quills

Quills combines offense and defense.

The creature gains 10% Piercing, and every time it receives attack damage it has a 15% chance to retaliate, damaging the attacker for 30% of its DPS.

Fast melee attackers trigger these counterattacks much more often simply because they attack more frequently.

High-health frontline Dudes generally handle Quills better than fragile damage dealers.

Rotten

Each attack has a 20% chance to create a Rot Cloud.

Any Dude standing inside the cloud suffers 25% reduced Healing Received for 3 seconds.

When combined with Plague or heavy enemy damage, Rotten can make healing feel almost nonexistent.

Avoid leaving your entire team inside the cloud whenever possible.

Sharp Claws

Sharp Claws increases the creature’s attacks by granting 25% Piercing.

This is a significant damage increase against well-armored Dudes because more damage ignores defensive protection.

Enemies with Sharp Claws should never be underestimated, even if their base damage appears average.

Sharp Horn

Sharp Horn works similarly to Sharp Claws but provides a slightly smaller bonus.

Attacks gain 15% Piercing, allowing more damage to bypass defenses.

While weaker than Sharp Claws, it still noticeably increases the danger of repeated attacks over longer fights.

Shotgun Shell

These creatures occasionally fire explosive blasts from their shell.

Any Dude standing beside them takes damage and is thrown away.

Melee-heavy teams are affected much more than ranged teams because they naturally remain close enough to be hit by these blasts.

Slashing Rampage

When health falls below 50%, the creature rapidly dashes between five random Dudes, slashing each one for 60% of its DPS.

Unlike normal attacks, this ability threatens multiple characters almost instantly.

Keeping everyone’s health reasonably high helps prevent unexpected knockouts when Slashing Rampage activates.

Snap

Snap represents one of the nastiest long-term debuffs in the game.

Every successful attack removes fingers from the target, permanently reducing their Attack Power by 1% for the rest of the battle.

The effect stacks up to 10 times, meaning a fully affected Dude permanently loses 10% Attack Power.

The longer Snap enemies stay alive, the weaker your team becomes, making them excellent priority targets.

Stable

Stable creatures have a naturally low center of gravity.

Because of this they cannot be Thrown or Stunned.

Any strategy focused around repeatedly interrupting enemies becomes ineffective against Stable targets, forcing you to defeat them through raw damage instead.

Starburst

Each attack has a 20% chance to launch a magical star toward a random Dude.

When the projectile lands, it bursts, damaging nearby allies and throwing everyone caught in the explosion.

The random targeting makes it difficult to predict, so maintaining reasonable spacing between important Dudes helps reduce its impact.

Swarmer

Swarmer rewards enemies for staying close together.

Each nearby creature of the same type grants:

  • 20% Run Speed
  • 2% Attack Speed

The bonuses stack up to 10 times, allowing large groups to become frighteningly fast.

If left alive in large numbers, Swarmer enemies can overwhelm even strong teams through sheer attack speed.

Area damage is usually the best answer to these swarms.

Tail Whip

Every attack has a 20% chance to throw its primary target directly toward another creature of the same type.

Instead of simply knocking a Dude away, Tail Whip intentionally throws victims deeper into enemy groups.

Once surrounded, recovering becomes much more difficult.

Keeping your frontline healthy helps reduce the chances of vulnerable backline characters becoming isolated.

Toxic Secretion

Whenever the creature takes damage, it applies 1% Vulnerability to the attacker for 8 seconds, stacking up to 10 times.

As the stacks increase, your attacking Dude receives progressively more damage from every enemy attack.

Fast attackers naturally accumulate Vulnerability much faster because they trigger the effect more frequently.

Trample

Simply walking over a Dude activates Trample.

The creature deals damage equal to 20% of its DPS while briefly stunning anyone beneath it.

Large enemies moving through crowded groups can repeatedly trigger Trample without even performing normal attacks.

Good positioning becomes extremely important whenever Trample enemies appear.

Tripod

Tripod functions similarly to Stable and Huge.

The creature’s tail provides exceptional balance, making it completely immune to both Throw and Stun effects.

Crowd-control strategies will have little impact, so defeating these enemies relies almost entirely on sustained damage.

Venom

Every successful attack permanently applies 1% Vulnerability to its target for the rest of the battle.

The debuff stacks up to 10 times, meaning affected Dudes eventually take substantially more damage from every source.

Unlike temporary debuffs, Venom continues to grow stronger as battles drag on. If a stage contains Venom enemies, I usually try to remove them early even if they don’t seem threatening at first. Ignoring them often turns a comfortable fight into a difficult one because your frontline keeps taking more and more damage with every stack.

Enemy traits are what separate easy encounters from difficult ones in How Many Dudes. Two enemies with identical stats can feel completely different simply because one has a dangerous passive ability. As you progress into tougher stages, paying attention to traits becomes just as important as looking at enemy health or attack values.

From experience, the most dangerous traits are usually the ones that either permanently weaken your team (Snap, Venom, Marrow Eater), constantly disrupt positioning (Backhand, Tail Whip, Hangry, Charger), or make groups of enemies scale together (Swarmer, Pack Mentality, Apes Together Strong). Once you learn to recognize these threats and prioritize them correctly, many stages become much more manageable even without significantly increasing your team’s power.
