In this post, I’ll show you a really quick way to get a free Devil Fruit in Grand Blue without having to spend a ton of time grinding. The best part is that you can do this right on the first island, so you can get a fruit very early in your adventure.
All you need to do is find the right NPC, complete his quest, and collect the required items using a shovel. Once you finish everything, you’ll receive a Fruit Chest, which gives you a chance to get a Devil Fruit.
I’ll walk you through the entire process from the starter area so you know exactly where to go, what item you need, how the digging works, and what reward you can expect at the end.
How to Get a Free Devil Fruit on Starter Island in Grand Blue
The first thing you need to do is stay on Starter Island and head toward the city area where you begin the game.
From the starting location, look for the stairs that lead upward toward the area with the Corrupt Marines.
Head Toward the Corrupt Marines
Once you’re in the starter city, go up the stairs and continue toward the area where the Corrupt Marines are located.
You don’t need to travel far or unlock another island. The entire quest can be started right here on the first island.
Continue up the stairs and run toward the NPC you’ll find in this area.
Find Almighty Calvin
Once you reach the area, look for an NPC named Almighty Calvin.
Talk to him and you’ll find that he has a quest for you.
The quest requires you to search around the island and dig up shells that are buried in the ground.
This is the quest you need to complete if you want to get your free Fruit Chest.
Buy the Rusty Shovel
Before you can start digging, you’ll need a Rusty Shovel.
You can purchase the shovel and then use it to dig at the marked locations around the island.
Make sure you have the shovel before heading out to collect the shells, because you won’t be able to complete the digging portion without it.
Find the Marked Digging Locations
After accepting the quest, you’ll need to travel around the island and look for the marked spots.
These are the locations where the shells are buried.
Once you reach one of the marked areas, stand directly over the spot and equip your Rusty Shovel.
Then you’re ready to start digging.
How to Dig Up the Shells
The digging mechanic is pretty simple.
When you’re standing at the correct location, use your shovel and start filling the progress bar.
On PC, you can do this by holding down the left mouse button.
Your goal is to fill the bar all the way and get a Perfect result.
So, don’t just randomly click around the area. Make sure you’re positioned over the marked digging spot and hold the button to dig.
Once you successfully dig up the required shell, move on to the next marked location and repeat the process.
Complete Almighty Calvin’s Quest
Continue visiting the marked locations and digging up the required shells until you’ve completed the entire quest.
The process is quite straightforward:
- Find Almighty Calvin.
- Accept his shell-collecting quest.
- Buy the Rusty Shovel.
- Follow the marked digging locations.
- Stand over each marked spot.
- Hold left-click to dig.
- Try to fill the bar perfectly.
- Collect all the required shells.
- Return and complete the quest.
Once you finish the quest, you’ll receive your reward.
Get Your Fruit Chest
The best part comes after completing the quest.
You’ll receive a Fruit Chest, which gives you a chance to obtain a Devil Fruit.
The exact fruit you get isn’t guaranteed, so your reward will depend on your luck.
For example, I ended up getting the Spike Fruit, which wasn’t exactly the result I was hoping for. But that’s just how the chest system works, and you could potentially get something much better.
So, if you get a fruit you don’t like, don’t let that discourage you. The important part is that you’ve obtained a Devil Fruit without needing to spend a huge amount of time grinding.
If you’re just starting Grand Blue and want to get a Devil Fruit quickly, make sure you visit Almighty Calvin on Starter Island.
Head up the stairs from the starter city toward the Corrupt Marines, find Calvin, and accept his shell-collecting quest. After purchasing the Rusty Shovel, follow the marked locations and dig up the shells by holding left-click and trying to get a Perfect result.
Once you’ve completed the quest, you’ll receive a Fruit Chest containing a random Devil Fruit.
It’s a very simple and beginner-friendly way to get your first fruit, and since you can do it so early in the game, I definitely recommend completing this quest as soon as you can.
