The EA39 update for Ravenfield introduced a new secret weapon called the Thunder Katana. However, you cannot simply select it immediately—you first need to complete a hidden sequence on the new Island map to unlock it.
In this post, we will tell you how to unlock the Thunder Katana in Ravenfield step by step. We will go through where you need to start, the locations of all six glowing circles, and what you need to do at the final location.
The process is fairly straightforward once you know where everything is located, but you have to complete the circles in the correct order. If you miss something or do things incorrectly, you may need to restart the map and begin again.
So, if you want to add this secret Katana to your weapon collection, follow the steps below and complete each location in order.
Setup and Objective
First, choose the new Island map. For an easier time unlocking the weapon, I recommend setting the bot count for both teams to zero so you can explore the map without dealing with enemies.
Your objective is to find six glowing circles, sometimes appearing like halos, along with frogs located around the map. There are six locations in total, and you need to complete them in the correct order.
Because the new Island map is more resource-heavy than some of the other maps, it is also recommended to play without mods enabled.
As you get close to one of the circles, you will hear frog sounds. For the first five locations, you simply need to stand on the glowing circle. The frog will then jump into the water, and a spark will appear to point you toward the next circle.
One important thing: do not shoot the frog. If you kill it, you will have to restart the map and begin the process again. You should also avoid enabling the Configure Flag option.
The First Circle
The first glowing circle can be found at the pond near the Raven spawn point on the western side of the map.
Head over to the pond and listen for the frog sounds as you get closer. Once you find the circle, stand on it to activate the first part of the sequence.
The Second Circle
The second circle is located inside the barn.
Go up to the second floor of the barn, where you can find the next glowing circle and continue the sequence.
Stand on the circle and watch for the frog jumping into the water and the spark showing you the direction of the next location.
The Third Circle
For the third circle, you need to travel to the small island located toward the bottom-left side of the map.
The island has a bridge, making it easier to recognize. Find the glowing circle on the island and activate it by standing on it.
After completing this one, follow the next indication toward the fourth location.
The Fourth Circle
The fourth circle can be found along the coast near the Eagle spawn point.
Search the coastline next to the spawn area until you locate the glowing circle and the frog nearby.
Stand on the circle to continue progressing through the secret Thunder Katana unlock sequence.
The Fifth Circle
The fifth glowing circle is located at the boathouse near the quarry.
Head to the boathouse area, find the circle, and activate it just like the previous locations.
Once this part is complete, you will be ready to head toward the final circle.
The Sixth Circle
The sixth and final circle is located near the middle of the map, close to the farm.
This location works differently from the previous ones. After reaching the final circle, the water will change, and you will be able to see a reflection of the Katana in the water.
Near the circle, you will find a sniper rifle leaned against a tree. Pick up the sniper and aim it at the Katana’s reflection in the water.
Once you aim at the reflection, the Thunder Katana will appear, allowing you to pick it up and complete the secret weapon unlock.
Where to Find the Thunder Katana After Unlocking It
After successfully unlocking the weapon, you can find the Thunder Katana in the Secret Weapon tab under the Primary weapon slot.
The weapon also comes with a second fire mode, so make sure you try that out after unlocking it.
