At this point, Overwatch has been around for quite some time. Over the past few years, it has gained massive popularity and is probably one of the most popular games in the world. Blizzard has put some much time and effort into Overwatch to make it a great game. However, should you play Overwatch in 2019? Let’s find out.
Overwatch is a first-person shooter based around 30 heroes, who are organised into three categories: Tank, Damage and Support. Every character has unique mechanics that make the character fun, similar to Champions in Paladins. Tanks are the hardest hero to kill. They have mostly short-range weapons, a lot of health, and the ability to protect themselves and others, Damage is a combination of both Offense and Defense, and Support characters are mainly for healing. I spent a lot of time playing with different heroes in Overwatch. I must say, the hero system in Overwatch is incredibly amusing. I have always enjoyed it as you have so much choice and variety. There is a hero for everyone’s playstyle. I love games like Overwatch and Paladins that let you choose what hero or champion you want to play. I think the hero system in Overwatch is probably its best feature. Along with weapons, each hero also has Abilities that do not use ammo. The three types of abilities are ultimate, passive and normal. Each hero has different and unique abilities.
In Overwatch, there are seven types of game modes available. Some are competitive, some are casual. You can choose which you play. Assault, Control, Escort, and Hybrid are available with competitive or quick play, while Capture the Flag, Deathmatch and Elimination are available from the Arcade or the Game Browser. Additionally, during seasonal events, a special game mode might become available. Each game mode is interactive and has a unique purpose. I recommend you play every game mode and decide on a favourite. I personally enjoyed playing the Capture the Flag game mode the most.
There are currently 21 maps in Overwatch, each designed incredibly well. They look and perform superbly. While playing, I never really disliked any of the maps. There are also different types of maps. They coordinate with the game modes. They include Assault, Escort, Hybrid, and Control maps. Some maps are fictional places, while some are based around real-life locations such as Hollywood. Overwatch designed their maps so god damn well. Their attention to detail is incredible. As I have said many times before, a game is not good unless it has good environments.
I spent a lot of time playing Overwatch. The mechanics are good and the game felt smooth. It didn’t run well on my old PC but it ran well on my Xbox One and my new PC. However, One thing I noticed while playing is how fast everything happens. The game is so chaotic. Whether or not that is a good or bad thing is up to you to decide. Some people like chaotic games while some prefer more chill games.
Overwatch also has a massive competitive scene. Overwatch has a splendid ranking system and has multiple competitive seasons throughout the year. If you are a person who enjoys competitive gaming, you will adore Overwatch. I didn’t look a whole lot into the competitive side so if you want more information on that, you will have to find it yourself.
Although this doesn’t affect the actual gameplay, each hero has a backstory. This is such a nice bonus. Learning about a hero and their backstory helps you enjoy playing that hero more. I wish more games would include backstories for their characters.
Overwatch is incredibly similar to Paladins. There are very few differences. I recommend you try out Paladins before you play Overwatch as Paladins is free-to-play.
In conclusion, as I said above, Overwatch keeps its players entertained. With beautiful maps, interactive game modes and unique heroes to choose from, you have so much content to explore. Overwatch also gets regular updates which add new heroes and other content. If you are looking for an FPS game to hang out on or compete competitively, you should try Overwatch. You won’t be disappointed.
