Spells are an important part of battles in Kingdom Rush 6 Genesis TD, and knowing how they level up can make a big difference in how you play. You can have up to 3 spells equipped at the same time, and each spell can grow from level 1 all the way to level 6 as you gain XP by casting it.
In this post, I’ll explain all 9 spells in Kingdom Rush 6: Genesis TD, how you can unlock them, how spell XP works, and what happens when you level up a spell. I’ll also cover the upgrade system, cooldowns, XP differences between game modes, and the special rules you should know before spending your gems.
Whether you are just starting out or trying to level all your spells to level 6, this guide should give you everything you need to understand the spell system and make better use of your upgrades.
Kingdom Rush 6 Genesis TD Spells Guide – Best Spells Tier List
There are 9 different spells in Kingdom Rush 6: Genesis TD, but you can only equip up to 3 spells for a battle.
Every spell starts at a certain level and can eventually reach level 6. Your spell gains XP whenever you cast it during a battle. As the spell levels up, you receive upgrade points that can be spent on its upgrade tree.
Each spell has 8 possible upgrades, but a level 6 spell can only have 5 upgrades active at once.
At levels 2 and 4, you will have to choose between two different upgrades. You can only take one of them.
The level 4 choice also determines which level 5 upgrade you receive, while levels 3 and 6 continue along the branch you selected.
The good thing is that you are not permanently stuck with your choices. In the Spells room, you can swap a selected upgrade for the other option in its pair at no cost. Swapping the level 4 upgrade also changes the level 5 upgrade connected to it.

Spell Levels and Upgrade Points
Every spell level after level 1 gives you 1 upgrade point.
This means a level 6 spell has a total of 5 upgrade points that you can spend on its 8 available upgrades.
| Level | Total XP | Upgrade Points | Gems From Previous Level |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 0 | 0 | — |
| 2 | 6,000 | 1 | 120 |
| 3 | 16,000 | 2 | 200 |
| 4 | 36,000 | 3 | 400 |
| 5 | 72,000 | 4 | 720 |
| 6 | 120,000 | 5 | 960 |
To reach level 6, a spell needs 120,000 total XP.
How Spell Upgrades Work
The upgrade tree can look confusing at first, but once you understand the branches it becomes much easier.
At level 2, you get a choice between two upgrades and can only take one.
At level 4, you get another choice between two upgrades. The option you select there determines which level 5 upgrade becomes available.
Levels 3 and 6 then continue along the branch you have chosen.
You can also change your mind later. In the Spells room, you can swap a selected upgrade with the other upgrade from the same pair for free.
One thing to remember is that changing the level 4 upgrade also swaps the level 5 upgrade connected to it.
How Spell XP Works
Your spells earn XP every time you cast them.
The amount of XP you receive depends on the spell, the game mode, and the level factor. The XP earned during the battle is added together and rounded down when it is saved.
One of the most useful things to know is that spell XP is kept regardless of the battle outcome.
Your XP is saved after:
- Winning a battle
- Losing a battle
- Restarting a battle
- Leaving a battle and returning to the map
So even when I lose a battle, the spell XP I earned during that run is still kept.
Spell XP by Game Mode
Different game modes in Kingdom Rush 6: Genesis TD use different spell XP and cooldown rules.
| Game Mode | Spells Used | XP | Cooldowns |
|---|---|---|---|
| Campaign | Equipped spells | Full | Normal |
| Iron Challenge | Equipped spells | Full | Normal |
| Blitz Challenge | Equipped spells | 0.625x | Halved |
| Spell Rush | Spells picked for Spell Rush | Full | Halved |
| Classic Rush | Rain of Fire and Reinforcements only | Full | Normal |
Hero Party is played without spells.
Blitz Challenge is worth paying attention to because your cooldowns are halved, allowing you to cast more often, but every cast only gives 0.625x XP.
XP Per Cast for Every Spell
Each spell has its own base XP gained per cast.
| Spell | XP Per Cast | Blitz Challenge |
|---|---|---|
| Reinforcements | 100 | 62.5 |
| Rain of Fire | 400 | 250 |
| Royal Edict | 320 | 200 |
| Teleportation Sigil | 280 | 175 |
| Ace Musketeers | 133 | 83.125 |
| Gnome’s Shop | 320 | 200 |
| Thunder Zapper | 320 | 200 |
| Wintersong’s Wrath | 280 | 175 |
| Aspect of Sol | 400 | 250 |
For example, Rain of Fire normally gives 400 XP per cast, while in Blitz Challenge it gives 250 XP.
The same applies to Aspect of Sol, which gives 400 XP normally and 250 XP in Blitz Challenge.
The Level Factor
There is another mechanic that affects your spell XP.
Kingdom Rush 6: Genesis TD checks how many campaign stages you have unlocked and uses that to determine the expected spell level.
| Campaign Stages Unlocked | Expected Spell Level |
|---|---|
| 1–3 | 1 |
| 4–7 | 2 |
| 8–10 | 3 |
| 11–13 | 4 |
| 14–16 | 5 |
| 17+ | 6 |
A cast gives 2x XP when the spell’s level at the start of the battle is 2 or more levels below the expected spell level.
On the other hand, a spell that is 2 or more levels above the expected level receives only half XP.
If your spell is just one level above or below the expected level, there is no change to the XP.
This means that lower-level spells can sometimes catch up faster when you have already progressed further through the campaign.
How Much Does It Cost to Level Spells?
You can use gems to level up your spells instead of earning all the XP through battles.
The level-up button in the Spells room lets you purchase one or more levels at once. You pay 1 gem for every 50 XP the spell is missing for the level you select.
The final cost is rounded to the nearest 10 gems.
For example, taking a spell from level 1 with zero XP all the way to level 6 costs 2,400 gems.
So before spending your gems, I recommend checking how much XP your spell already has. If you have been using it regularly, you may only need to pay for the remaining XP.
Spell Unlocks on Steam
If you are playing Kingdom Rush 6: Genesis TD on Steam, most spells are unlocked by collecting stars.
The unlock requirements are:
- Reinforcements — Available from the start
- Rain of Fire — Available from the start
- Royal Edict — 5 stars
- Teleportation Sigil — 18 stars
- Ace Musketeers — 42 stars
- Gnome’s Shop — 48 stars
- Thunder Zapper — 62 stars
- Wintersong’s Wrath — 68 stars
- Aspect of Sol — 72 stars
Aspect of Sol is therefore unlocked at 72 stars on Steam.
Spell Unlocks on iOS and Android
The mobile version uses a slightly different system.
Reinforcements and Rain of Fire are available from the start, while Royal Edict is unlocked through the normal progression.
These spells are available as in-app purchases on iOS and Android:
- Teleportation Sigil
- Gnome’s Shop
- Thunder Zapper
- Wintersong’s Wrath
- Aspect of Sol
So if you are playing Kingdom Rush 6: Genesis TD on mobile, some spell unlocks work differently from the Steam version.
Which Spells Start at Level 3?
Not every spell starts at level 1.
These spells start at level 3 with 2 upgrade points:
- Teleportation Sigil
- Ace Musketeers
- Gnome’s Shop
- Thunder Zapper
- Wintersong’s Wrath
- Aspect of Sol
These spells start at level 1:
- Reinforcements
- Rain of Fire
- Royal Edict
This gives the later-unlocked spells a useful head start, while the starting spells need to be leveled normally from level 1.
The spell system in Kingdom Rush 6: Genesis TD is more than simply equipping three spells and using them whenever their cooldowns are ready. Your spell level, XP, upgrades, game mode, campaign progress, and the level difference between your spell and the expected spell level can all affect progression.
I recommend casting your equipped spells regularly instead of leaving their cooldowns unused, especially when you are trying to level them up. Since spell XP is saved even after a defeat or restart, you can still make progress even when a battle does not go your way.
Once you understand the spell levels, upgrade branches, XP system, and unlock requirements, it becomes much easier to manage your spells and decide where to spend your gems.
