Knock Knock Room Defense Beginner Guide – Heroes, Upgrade

If you are just starting out in Knock Knock Room Defense, there are quite a few systems to learn at once. You have heroes to summon, a room to upgrade, enemies with different weaknesses, and several currencies that become important as you progress.

In this post, I’ll go through the main things you should focus on as a beginner, including the available codes, choosing the right server, upgrading your bed and door, using enemy weaknesses, and managing your diamonds.

I’ll also explain some of the systems that unlock as you clear campaign stages, including Room Research and the Hero Codex. Following these tips early should make your first few stages much easier and help you avoid wasting important resources.

Knock Knock Room Defense Beginner Guide – Heroes, Upgrad

Before doing anything else, I recommend redeeming the available codes. You can enter them by opening your avatar menu in the top-left corner and going into Settings.

From there, find the Gift Code section and enter the following codes:

Code Rewards
KNOCK2026 Free rewards
KNOCK1M Free rewards
KNOCK500K Hero Pack / Summoning Scrolls
KNOCK100K Soul Flames and Gold
KNOCKDC Leather and Gold

Enter each code and press Exchange to claim the rewards.

Keep in mind that codes can expire, so if one of them doesn’t work, it may no longer be active.

Choose the Right Server

While you are in the settings menu, check the Select Server option in the bottom-left corner.

Knock Knock Room Defense has different servers for regions and languages. You should make sure you are playing on the server that matches your region and preferred language.

The guide also recommends choosing the highest-numbered server available. Newer servers give newer players a more even playing field because the server has been open for less time.

So, before you start spending resources, check your server first.

How the Basic Room Defense Works

The main gameplay loop is fairly simple once you understand what your room is doing.

You start inside a room with a bed, a door, and your character. The character sleeping in the bed generates banknotes, which are one of your main currencies during a stage.

Your goal is to use those banknotes to improve your room and summon heroes that can defend you from incoming enemies.

The first thing I recommend doing is checking the different rooms available. Each room can have its own starting building buff, so you should look at what each one provides before choosing.

For example, one room can give you additional banknotes per second, which is particularly useful at the beginning because more banknotes mean you can upgrade and summon faster.

Upgrade Your Bed and Door

Two of the most important upgrades early on are your bed and door.

The bed controls how many banknotes you generate per second. Upgrading it increases your income, allowing you to afford more summons and other upgrades.

The door is your main defensive barrier. Upgrading it increases its HP, making it harder for enemies to break through and reach you.

There is also an important connection between the two.

You can’t simply keep upgrading your bed without improving the door. Your door needs to reach certain levels before you can continue upgrading your bed.

For example, if your door is level 2, you may need to raise it to level 3 before the next bed upgrade becomes available.

Because of this, I recommend keeping an eye on both upgrades instead of putting everything into your bed.

Summon Heroes to Defend Your Room

Once you start generating banknotes, you can use them to summon heroes.

At the beginning, you have a small pool of characters to choose from. When you summon, you’ll be given several options and can select the character you want to add to your setup.

Different heroes have different playstyles, so you don’t necessarily have to copy the exact team used by someone else.

Some characters deal magic damage, while others focus on physical damage. You can identify physical damage characters through the yellow sword icon.

As you unlock more heroes, you can adjust your team depending on what you are fighting.

Check Enemy Weaknesses Before Choosing Heroes

One of the easiest things to overlook as a new player is the enemy information on the right side of the screen.

You can click on an enemy to see its weaknesses and resistances.

This is extremely important because your heroes can have different effects and damage types.

For example, if an enemy is weak to Bleed, using a character that applies Bleed can be much more effective.

On the other hand, if the enemy has a resistance to Burn, you don’t want to rely heavily on a character whose main effect is Burn.

So before starting a difficult stage, take a few seconds to check the enemies. Building your team around their weaknesses can make a noticeable difference.

Deal With Enemies and Bosses

As the stage progresses, enemies will begin spawning and moving toward your room.

You will also encounter larger boss-type enemies that can put much more pressure on your defenses.

This is where your earlier upgrades become important.

Keep generating banknotes, summon additional creatures when possible, and improve your existing heroes. You can also star up characters when you have the required resources.

Don’t wait until the enemies are already breaking through your door before upgrading everything. You want your room and heroes to be prepared before the stronger enemies arrive.

Build the Generator

As you progress through the stage, you will unlock additional building spaces.

One of the important buildings you can construct is a generator.

The generator costs 300 banknotes to build and produces another currency: energy.

This gives you a second resource to manage alongside your banknotes.

Energy becomes important because certain upgrades require it. For example, you need to accumulate enough energy to continue improving your door once you reach the relevant progression point.

So, once the generator becomes available, don’t ignore it. Building it helps you start generating the resources required for later upgrades.

Keep Your Door and Bed Progressing Together

As you advance, you’ll notice that your bed and door eventually reach upgrade limits.

These limits are controlled by your Room Research.

Room Research is one of the most important progression systems in Knock Knock Room Defense because it increases the overall strength and upgrade limits of your room.

You can access it from the menu by selecting the area associated with your main character and then opening Room Research.

From there, you can increase things such as the level cap for your door and bed and unlock additional buildings.

For example, later Room Research upgrades can allow your bed and door to reach level 7 and unlock the generator.

This means that if you reach a point where you can’t upgrade your room any further, don’t assume you are doing something wrong. Check your Room Research and see what needs to be upgraded or unlocked.

Always Claim Double Rewards From Campaign Stages

One of the most important beginner tips is to use the Double Rewards option whenever it is available on the main campaign stages.

According to the guide, you only get one opportunity to claim these extra rewards.

If you complete the stage without claiming the double rewards, you cannot simply replay that same stage later to get the bonus.

Because of this, always check for the Double Rewards option before completing a campaign stage.

This is an easy bonus to miss, and you don’t want to lose extra resources just because you forgot to claim them.

Clear Campaign Stages to Unlock Features

Don’t worry if your account looks much simpler than what you see in advanced gameplay videos.

A lot of the systems are locked when you first start playing.

As you clear campaign stages, you’ll gradually unlock more features, buildings, upgrades, and other parts of the game.

Some features also have additional requirements, such as reaching a certain character level or clearing a particular campaign stage.

For that reason, your early goal should be to keep pushing through the main campaign rather than trying to unlock everything immediately.

Save Your Diamonds

Diamonds are your premium currency, and this is one resource I would be careful with as a beginner.

The summoning system can be expensive. A 10-pull costs 2,200 diamonds, so spending all of your diamonds on summons can quickly leave you with nothing.

Instead, save your diamonds and look for better opportunities to spend them.

The guide particularly recommends checking the Featured Events section.

Spend Diamonds on Discounted Event Items

Featured Events can contain discounted materials and useful packs.

Some of these items are significantly cheaper than their normal cost, making them a better use of your diamonds than simply buying summons.

One of the most important materials mentioned is Soul Flames.

Soul Flames are needed to upgrade your heroes, and running short on them can slow down your progression considerably.

If a discounted event is offering Soul Flame packs, these should be high on your shopping list.

You may also find discounted Hero Packs, including offers with significant discounts. If you want additional summons, these can be a better option than spending the full price on the normal summoning banner.

Don’t Ignore Stamina

Stamina is another resource that becomes increasingly important as you progress.

As you unlock more game modes, many of them require stamina. That means you can eventually run into situations where you have plenty of other resources but can’t play a particular mode because you have run out of stamina.

You can claim stamina three times per day by watching ads, according to the guide.

You can also purchase stamina using diamonds.

Because of this, I would keep some diamonds available for stamina and discounted event offers instead of spending everything on summons.

Upgrade Your Hero Collection

Another system that is easy to overlook is your Hero Collection.

As you collect more characters, enhance them, and increase their star levels using duplicates, you can increase your Hero Codex level.

The Hero Codex isn’t just a collection screen. Increasing its level provides additional account-wide benefits, including improvements to your stats.

That makes collecting and upgrading heroes valuable even if you aren’t currently using every character on your main team.

Whenever you obtain new heroes or duplicates, check your Hero Codex and see if there are additional upgrades available.

Knock Knock Room Defense gives you quite a few systems to manage, but the early game is mostly about building a strong resource cycle.

Your bed gives you banknotes, your door keeps enemies out, your heroes provide damage and effects, and the generator eventually gives you another resource for progression.

The biggest mistake I would avoid is spending everything as soon as you get it. Diamonds, stamina, Soul Flames, and other upgrade materials become more important as you unlock additional game modes.

For combat, always look at enemy weaknesses instead of blindly using the same team. A character that works well against one enemy may be much less useful against another because of resistances.

Most importantly, keep clearing the campaign and improving your Room Research. A lot of the game’s systems are tied to progression, so your account will become much more powerful simply by continuing to push forward and unlocking the features that are still locked.
