LOTR War in the North Legacy Edition Achievement Guide

If you’re going for all 46 achievements in The Lord of the Rings: War in the North – Legacy Edition, there is one thing I would strongly recommend before you start: don’t treat this like a normal story playthrough.

A lot of the achievements are straightforward, but a handful are tied to conversations, collectibles, cumulative statistics, character-specific skills, and one particularly annoying final-battle requirement. Missing one of those can mean replaying a large section of the campaign.

The good news is that you don’t need to constantly stare at a checklist while playing. Once you know the important points, the whole 100% run becomes much easier to manage.

This guide takes you through the campaign in chronological order. It covers all 46 Steam achievements, the 25 Secrets, seven Cult of the Lidless Eye scrolls, side quests, combat achievements, war-machine kills, Beleram summons, armor sets, difficulty clears, and the three-player achievement.

The route is designed around three campaign clears on the same save:

  • Normal
  • Heroic
  • Legendary

The difficulty achievements do not stack, so you really do need all three clears.

One more thing before jumping in: if you’re playing the Legacy Edition, you can hot-swap characters much more conveniently. The original release handles character changes differently, so I’ve mentioned that wherever it matters.

LOTR War in the North Legacy Edition Achievement Guide

The easiest way to approach the entire achievement list is to divide it into three campaign runs.

Normal playthrough

Start as Andriel, but only for the potion achievement in Fornost: Main Gate. After getting it, switch to Eradan and use him for most of the remaining Normal campaign.

During this run, concentrate on:

  • All 25 Secrets
  • All seven Malignant Scrolls
  • Five Gilded Chests
  • 15 potions
  • 15 quests
  • 50 headshots
  • 10 Beleram summons
  • 150 war-machine kills
  • 600 total kills
  • 25,000 coins held at once
  • Level 20
  • The required skill progression
  • All important missable conversations and quests
  • Refusing Beleram during the final Agandaûr battle

Heroic playthrough

Continue the same save into Heroic.

This time, use Farin and concentrate on the character-specific achievements and the second campaign clear.

You will work toward:

  • Four enemies killed with one Explosive Bolt
  • 3,000+ ranged damage
  • 1,500+ melee damage
  • Battle-master
  • Warrior Exemplar
  • Heroic completion

Legendary playthrough

Continue that same save again.

The major jobs here are:

  • Living Shield
  • Six-piece armor set
  • Legendary completion

There is also one achievement that requires three actual human players, which can be handled separately.

Before You Start: Important Save Rules

The most important rule of this entire guide is simple:

Keep using the same progression save.

New Game Plus retains your level, equipment, skills, items, and useful statistics. Starting a completely fresh character for Heroic or Legendary defeats much of the purpose of this route.

Also keep these four missables in your head:

  • Talk to Frodo during your first visit to Rivendell.
  • Free Glorihirin in Woodland Marshes.
  • Return all seven Malignant Scrolls to Elrond before the Siege of Nordinbad.
  • Do not summon Beleram during the final Agandaûr fight on Normal.

Missing one of these can force you to replay a substantial part of the game.

At towns, I also recommend speaking to every named NPC and exhausting their dialogue before leaving. If a character offers a quest, take it. Checking your Log before departing is a good habit because it is much easier to fix something while you’re still in town than several chapters later.

Recommended Normal Build: Andriel to Eradan

Why start as Andriel?

Andriel is needed early because of the game’s class-specific herb pickups.

You don’t need to build her into some incredible endgame character. Her job here is basically to help you get the potion achievement.

Once you have Herb-master, switch to Eradan.

Eradan’s setup

Put enough Stamina into your character to comfortably use your current armor, then start favoring Dexterity.

For combat, prioritize:

  • Evasion
  • Ranger Strike
  • Smoke and Flame
  • Heavy Shot

Once Keen-eyed Marksman is available, keep using aimed shots and make a habit of going for enemy heads.

That headshot counter is cumulative, so there is no reason to leave it until the end.

Recommended Heroic and Legendary Build: Farin

Farin is the character I recommend for both higher difficulties.

Use the strongest crossbow you can equip and meet its Dexterity requirement. Put enough Stamina into your build for your current armor, then around 20–25 points into Will before putting the remaining points toward Strength.

The important skills include:

  • Explosive Bolt
  • Crossbow Adept
  • Indomitable Spirit
  • War-cry
  • Dwarf-armor
  • Battle-fury
  • Battle-ready
  • Determination

Explosive Bolt is particularly useful because clustered enemies can disappear surprisingly quickly.

Don’t feel obligated to stand still and trade hits with stronger enemies. Roll, reposition, revive companions and keep your potions available for bosses and dangerous defensive sections.

Step 1: Bree and Fornost Main Gate

Bree side quests

Your first visit to Bree is important because several small quests are easy to overlook.

Inside the Prancing Pony, speak with Otto near the fireplace and accept Forewarned is Forearmed.

Then speak to Rowlie near the stairs and take the Broken Rowlie’s Locket.

Head outside and turn left toward Elmund the blacksmith. Pay one silver to repair the locket.

Take it uphill to Idona, give it to her, then return to Rowlie. Refuse his reward to complete Rowlie’s Gift.

Next, speak to Grof near the cart. Listen to his warning and then report back to Otto to complete Forewarned is Forearmed.

Otto will also start Otto’s Arsenal.

This is where I recommend doing something slightly boring but very useful: save ten weapon, bow, or shield drops.

Don’t sell those ten items to somebody else.

You’ll need them for Otto later.

Fornost: Main Gate – Andriel’s Potion Farm

Choose Fornost and begin as Andriel on Normal.

Your first objective is getting the potion achievement out of the way.

Look for the blue-glowing herb and mushroom pickups. There are several fixed locations throughout Main Gate, including:

  • Left side before the curving stair
  • Upstairs near the barrels
  • Below the first courtyard wall
  • Beside the square garden
  • Right room of the first building
  • Far-right corner of the large room
  • Room entered through the wall breach
  • Near the low wall before the open gate
  • Stairs after the collapse
  • Behind Andriel’s shimmering false wall underground
  • Beside the pillar when returning toward the portal stair
  • Far end of the exit tunnel
  • Behind the left tent
  • Inside the breached building
  • Below the window after the courtyard jump
  • Far end of the right-hand dead end

Open your inventory and combine ingredients.

Be careful here: the game can show different crafting results. You specifically want the preview to say Potion rather than Cake.

If you don’t reach 15 potions naturally, replay Main Gate from the map until you do.

Achievement: Herb-master

Once your fifteenth potion is crafted, Herb-master should unlock.

At this point, switch to Eradan for the rest of Normal.

In Legacy Edition, you can use the hot-swap system. In the original release, cross a checkpoint, return to the main menu and continue the same save as Eradan.

Fornost Main Gate – Secrets 1 and 2

After the first courtyard fight, you’ll eventually reach the gate.

Before entering the main building, turn right.

Go through the hole in the wall into the small room and follow Eradan’s footprints to the left.

Inspect the disturbed wall at the end.

That’s Secret 1/25.

Continue through the building, deal with the ambush and descend through the collapse.

At the first underground portal, cross the bridge nearest to the portal and turn left.

Follow the tunnel and inspect the marked wall on the right.

That’s Secret 2/25.

At the end of the tunnel you’ll also find:

Gilded Chest 1/5

Whenever you get an elfstone, open your inventory and place it into an empty elfstone socket on an equipped item.

Achievement: Gem-studded

This should unlock once you properly socket an elfstone.

Free Beleram

You’ll eventually reach Beleram’s platform.

Cut all four chains holding him, defeat the attackers and finish the rescue conversation.

Achievement: Friend to the Eagles

Beleram becomes an important part of the rest of the campaign, especially for several combat situations.

Just remember that there is one very specific place where you must not use him: the final Agandaûr battle on Normal.

Achievement: Sudden Fury

For Sudden Fury, weaken three goblins until they display the yellow critical indicator.

Keep the three enemies close together.

Then perform three heavy critical finishers within ten seconds.

This is much easier when you deliberately prepare the enemies instead of trying to get it naturally during a chaotic fight.

From this point onward, start making your bow kills headshots.

Check Gameplay Stats regularly.

Step 2: Fornost Battlements to Citadel Tower

Fornost Battlements

There are two war machines here.

Use the mounted crossbows and kill enemies with them whenever possible.

You need a total of 150 war-machine kills, so don’t ignore these opportunities.

At the first war machine, kill the goblin sorcerer and loot his corpse.

You’ll find:

Malignant Scroll 1/7

This also counts as Secret 3/25 and begins the Cult of the Lidless Eye quest.

Whenever Beleram’s summon becomes available outdoors, use it against a live target.

You’re eventually looking for ten successful summons.

Fornost Outer Wards – Secrets 4 and 5

Before approaching the gate Beleram destroys, take the left path.

Follow Eradan’s tracks into the hedge.

You’ll find:

Secret 4/25

Continue to the end of this branch for:

Gilded Chest 2/5

Return to the main route and eventually fight the troll.

Once Elladan and Elrohir join the party, the story progression will trigger.

Achievement: Elf-friend

Continue into the next area.

After the troll courtyard, enter the breach in the right wall.

Open the gilded chest inside.

You’ll find the Mysterious Aged Tome.

This counts as:

Gilded Chest 3/5
Secret 5/25

Keep the Tome because you’ll need it for Elrond later.

In the same room, inspect the marked wall on the right.

That’s:

Secret 6/25

Fornost Inner Wards – Secrets 7 and 8

Deal with the sappers and cross the first gate.

On the far side, inspect the pillar for:

Secret 7/25

Before entering the next open gate, backtrack toward where the goblins appeared.

Follow Eradan’s tracks through the brush on the right.

You’ll find:

Gilded Chest 4/5
Secret 8/25

At the portal, travel back to Bree.

Complete Otto’s Arsenal

Sell Otto the ten weapons, bows or shields you saved earlier.

This completes Otto’s Arsenal.

Then return to Inner Wards.

Keep working on your headshots.

If your Gameplay Stats are significantly below 50 by the time you reach the Citadel portal, replay an early Fornost area from the map rather than simply reloading a checkpoint.

Achievement: Keen-eyed Marksman

Once you reach 50 headshots, the achievement should trigger.

Fornost Citadel and Citadel Tower

Fight your way toward the Citadel.

During the defense, protect Elladan and Elrohir through the waves.

Then enter the tower and prepare for Tharzog.

His attacks are slow but hit hard. Roll through his swings rather than standing in front of him.

Deal with sorcerers quickly and use ranged attacks when he backs away.

Achievement: Tharzog’s Bane

Continue using Beleram whenever a valid outdoor summon appears.

Remember that simply reloading a checkpoint doesn’t magically give you another summon toward the cumulative counter.

Step 3: Sarn Ford and the Barrow-downs

Sarn Ford

Speak with Silanna near the wounded Ranger’s tent.

Accept Athelas.

Speak with the Rangers before leaving for the Barrow-downs.

Barrow-downs – Secrets 9 to 12

From the entrance, descend and follow the path.

Take the left bend, then the next right.

Enter the short right-hand detour.

Crossing into this area counts as:

Secret 9/25

Inspect the marked rock on the right for:

Secret 10/25

Return to the main road.

Take the first guaranteed Athelas plant on the left and keep it for Silanna.

After the first fog valley and troll encounter, stay toward the entrance side and follow the footprints on the right.

Inspect the marked rock for:

Secret 11/25

When archers attack from above the tomb entrance, go inside and complete the three tomb circuits.

This progresses The Last Sons of Cardolan.

Once you’re back in the central area and reach the glade, the normal route turns left.

Instead, take the right path past the shrines and item piles.

Climb to the hilltop and inspect the marked rock on the right.

That’s:

Secret 12/25

Return to the main path.

Barrow of Amon Gorthad – Secret 13

At the beginning, open the first chest.

Inspect the nearby pillar.

That’s:

Secret 13/25

Continue through the tombs, obtain the key and find Kilaran.

The Barrow-wight Lord fight can look more complicated than it really is.

Damage Kilaran only while he’s on your side of the barrier. The damage transfers to the Lord.

Keep the summoned enemies under control while Kilaran is close to the boss.

Defeat the Barrow-wight Lord and finish the missing-Rangers investigation.

Achievement: Begone, lord of carrion!

Your next achievement is tied to natural progression through this section.

Achievement: Tracker

Continue through the story and make sure your progression is being recorded.

Achievement: Foe-hammer

Check Gameplay Stats.

You should naturally be approaching or already past 200 total kills.

If you’re short, replay the Barrow-downs until the counter reaches 200.

Achievement: Relentless

For this one, equip Eradan’s two weakest one-handed weapons.

Find a troll or armored heavy enemy.

Enter Hero Mode and keep your attacks going without allowing the combo to expire.

You need to reach 50 displayed hits before the enemy dies.

Don’t try to burn the target down. The whole point is maintaining the streak.

Once you have it, roll away when necessary and keep the combo alive.

Afterward, return to Sarn Ford and give Silanna the Athelas.

Complete Athelas and travel to Rivendell.

Step 4: Rivendell and the Coldfells

Rivendell – Talk to Frodo

This is one of the most important missable moments in the entire guide.

Complete the council conversation with Elrond, Gandalf and Aragorn.

Then find Frodo in the guest area.

Talk to him about his burden and exhaust the conversation.

Do this before selecting the Ettenmoors.

Achievement: Trusted with the Secret

This comes from the main Rivendell progression.

Achievement: Friend to the Ring-bearer

Complete the Frodo conversation.

Don’t leave Rivendell until you’re sure you have spoken to him.

The Seer’s Words and The Poet

Give Elrond the Mysterious Aged Tome from Fornost.

This completes The Seer’s Words.

Then speak with Bilbo on the stone bench and accept The Poet.

Go to Arwen on the bridge.

Choose a response that completes the verse and finish the quest.

Whenever Rivendell becomes available again, speak with Bilbo to advance The Chronicler conversation.

It isn’t essential to the achievement route, but there is little reason to skip it.

Also accept Miruvor from Arwen.

You need:

  • 5 Miriloth Blooms
  • 2 Gilivor Crystals
  • 1 Mountain Honey

Coldfells – Miruvor and Secrets 14 to 16

The first two Miriloth Blooms are in the first small gathering area:

Miriloth Bloom 1/5
Miriloth Bloom 2/5

After the troll camp, leave through the destroyed gate.

Look around the wooden tower just to the right.

Miriloth Bloom 3/5

Continue through the trees before the rock climb.

Miriloth Bloom 4/5

At the cave fork, take the left branch.

Inspect the marked rock in the right corner.

Secret 14/25

Exit the far end of the cave and collect:

Miriloth Bloom 5/5

Then take:

Gilivor Crystal 1/2

Drop to the stream and turn left, heading downstream.

Look for the gilded chest near the crates and barrels.

Inside you’ll find:

Scroll 2/7
Secret 15/25
Gilded Chest 5/5

Achievement: Expert Treasure-hunter

Opening all five gilded chests completes the achievement.

Continue upstream.

Collect the second Gilivor Crystal behind the rock on the right.

Then collect the Mountain Honey from the overturned trunk.

Finally, continue until the footprints lead into a small cave on the right.

Inspect the marked rock.

Secret 16/25

Level 10 and the Third Skill Tier

When you reach level 10, the appropriate progression trigger should activate.

Achievement: Defender of the North

Spend one skill point in the third skill tier.

For Eradan, the first available lit skill in the third row is enough.

Close the skill screen to make sure the purchase is committed.

Achievement: War-hardened

This follows the progression around the level and skill milestones.

Step 5: High Moors and Mount Gundabad

High Moors – Secrets 17 to 19

Near the beginning, take the path left around the fires and enter the orc camp.

Kill the sorcerer protected by the archers and warriors.

Loot his corpse.

You’ll get:

Scroll 3/7
Secret 17/25

Later, take the right branch at the fork.

Kill the archers and warrior and continue to the cave.

Inspect the marked rock at the entrance.

Secret 18/25

At the final fork before the exit, take the left branch into the large cave.

Circle around the central rock and defeat both trolls.

Follow the footprints behind the pillar and inspect the wall cache.

Secret 19/25

Stone Chasm – Bargrisar

Eventually you’ll reach Bargrisar.

Stay near his legs and avoid getting greedy.

Roll away from stomps and arm sweeps, then attack during his recovery animations.

Achievement: Giant-slayer

Defeating Bargrisar completes the achievement.

Return to Rivendell for Miruvor

Before continuing toward Mount Gundabad, return to Rivendell.

Give Arwen:

  • Five Miriloth Blooms
  • Two Gilivor Crystals
  • Mountain Honey

Complete Miruvor and accept Truesilver.

Alpine Pass – Mithril Ore

Continue into Alpine Pass.

When you reach the orc campfire, enter the small cave on its right.

Switch to Farin.

Use his class ability to break the cracked wall on the left.

Open the chest beyond it and take the Mithril Ore.

In Legacy Edition, hot-swap directly.

In the original release, make sure Farin is selected before loading Alpine Pass.

Continue through the pass.

Kill the snow troll that breaks through the rock wall, enter its cave and defeat the two additional snow trolls inside.

Achievement: Troll’s Bane

After the three snow trolls are dead, switch back to Eradan.

Mountain’s Interior – Secrets 20 and 21

Enter the first tower.

Cross both wooden bridges into the second tower and drop through the floor opening.

After the fight below, follow Eradan’s footprints to the left.

Inspect the marked wall beside the chest.

Secret 20/25

Climb out.

Take the tower’s left exit and deal with the archers.

Drop from the platform and enter the next tower opening.

Take the left exit and open the chest.

You’ll find:

Scroll 4/7
Secret 21/25

Find the trapped Dwarves, destroy the control lever and escort them to the Gate Chamber.

Gate Chamber – War Machines and Beleram

The mounted crossbow here is one of your best opportunities for the 150 war-machine kills.

Prioritize:

  1. Trolls
  2. Sappers
  3. Groups of goblins

Stay on the machine whenever there is a good target.

Continue using Beleram against live outdoor enemies.

You need ten successful summons across the campaign.

Achievement: Swift-winged Warrior

The tenth successful Beleram summon should trigger this achievement.

Achievement: Mountain-breaker

Survive the Gate Chamber defense and use the ancient weapon to destroy the citadel.

Return to Rivendell afterward.

Give the Mithril Ore to Arwen and then speak with Angmir the smith to finish Truesilver.

Step 6: Nordinbad and Mirkwood

Nordinbad

Speak with Gorin.

Then descend the left stairs and find Galar behind his stall.

Complete Gorin’s Gratitude.

Open the reward package and keep any yellow-named armor piece.

This is where you should start paying much more attention to your armor sets.

A complete armor set consists of:

  • Head
  • Shoulders
  • Body
  • Gloves
  • Leggings
  • Boots

Keep yellow-named pieces even if they aren’t useful for your current build.

Shadowed Paths – Wulfrun

Defeat Wulfrun near the opening.

Roll through his ranged attacks rather than trying to absorb them.

Kill summoned enemies when they become overwhelming.

Loot Wulfrun’s corpse.

You’ll get:

Scroll 5/7
Secret 22/25

Achievement: Wulfrun’s Bane

Defeating Wulfrun completes the achievement.

After speaking with Beleram, follow the trail beyond the warg and across the fallen log.

When the footprints turn left, follow them toward the large stone.

Inspect the cache.

Secret 23/25

Return to the main trail.

Web-shrouded Woods

Fight through the spider waves.

During the final clearing, focus on the large spiders first.

Then deal with the smaller swarm.

Take Radagast’s staff from the objective marker.

Step 7: Woodland Marshes – The Most Important Missable

This is another area where you really don’t want to rush.

After the first enemy group and blue checkpoint, stay on the right side of the main route.

Pass beneath the huge tree.

Follow the footprints through the shallow water.

You’ll eventually enter a hidden orc camp.

Entering this camp and receiving The Captive counts as:

Secret 24/25

Clear every captor.

Go to the far end of the camp and open Glorihirin’s enclosure.

Speak with him.

Achievement: Friend of the Woodland Realm

Do not leave without freeing Glorihirin.

This is one of the guide’s major missable warnings.

After freeing him, backtrack through the water to the earlier fork.

Take the right branch.

After the next group of enemies, inspect the cache underneath the large tree.

Secret 25/25

Achievement: Seeker

Collecting all 25 Secrets completes the achievement.

Heart of the Web

Push through the tunnels and rescue Radagast.

Then prepare for Saenathra.

Destroy egg sacs when the arena becomes crowded.

Avoid poison attacks and roll away from lunges.

The abdomen is the safer damage opportunity after she misses a lunge.

Achievement: Spider-slayer

Defeat Saenathra.

Before leaving the area, speak with Glorihirin again beside Radagast.

Claim his package and complete The Captive.

By this point you should have your required 15 quests.

Achievement: Many deeds, great and small

This completes the quest progression requirement.

Step 8: Grey Mountains and the Final Two Scrolls

Scroll 6

Cross the first bridge and reach the three-way fork.

The left branch has a flower.

The right branch has an item pile.

Take the middle route.

Loot the dead sorcerer.

You’ll find:

Scroll 6/7

Continue through the mountain route.

Use Beleram against armored enemies when appropriate.

Eventually you’ll fight around the Carn Dûm Captain.

Scroll 7

Defeat the Carn Dûm Captain.

Before entering the dragon’s lair, loot his corpse.

You’ll find:

Scroll 7/7

At this point, you have all seven Malignant Scrolls.

Urgost’s Lair

Enter the dragon’s lair.

During the conversation, keep your weapons lowered.

Accept Urgost’s demand and leave the audience alive.

Achievement: In the Dragon’s Den

This achievement is tied to the Urgost encounter.

Step 9: Return to Rivendell Before the Siege

This is your final major scroll checkpoint.

At the travel screen, choose Rivendell, not Nordinbad.

Speak with Elrond.

Turn in all seven Malignant Scrolls:

  1. Fornost Battlements sorcerer
  2. Coldfells gilded chest
  3. High Moors sorcerer
  4. Mountain’s Interior chest
  5. Wulfrun
  6. Grey Mountains dead sorcerer
  7. Carn Dûm Captain

Achievement: The Lidless Eye

The achievement should trigger after completing the Cult of the Lidless Eye quest.

Open your Log and confirm it says the quest is complete.

If it doesn’t, stop here.

Don’t continue into the Siege and hope it fixes itself later.

Normal Campaign Counter Check

Before moving into the point-of-no-return section, check Gameplay Stats.

You want:

  • 25 Secrets
  • 50 headshots
  • 10 Beleram summons
  • 15 potions
  • 15 quests
  • 150 war-machine kills
  • 600 total kills
  • 25,000 coins

You should also have:

  • Five Gilded Chests
  • All seven scrolls
  • The important missable conversations completed

And keep your yellow-name armor pieces.

Don’t sell them just because they’re weaker than your current equipment.

Step 10: Siege of Nordinbad

Farming the 150 War-Machine Kills

Open Gameplay Stats and look at your current War Machine Kills.

If you’re behind, replay Mount Gundabad: Gate Chamber.

Stay on the mounted crossbow as much as possible and focus on enemies entering its firing lanes.

Reloading checkpoints isn’t the same as properly replaying a map for cumulative progress, so if you need to farm, replay the level from the map.

You need:

150 war-machine kills

before finishing Normal.

Surviving the Siege

At the outer defense, use the mounted crossbows.

Fire into groups and prioritize armored enemies.

Destroy both siege towers.

At the inner gate, sappers should be your first priority.

If a sapper reaches the door, things can go downhill very quickly.

When trolls arrive, get off the machine and deal with them directly.

Don’t let them repeatedly hit the gate.

Beleram is extremely useful here.

Defeat the siege commander, clear the remaining enemies and speak with Gorin.

Achievement: Siege-breaker

Complete the Siege of Nordinbad.

Achievement: War-machinist

Once the cumulative war-machine counter reaches 150, this achievement should unlock.

If it doesn’t, replay Gate Chamber before moving into Carn Dûm.

Step 11: Carn Dûm and the Normal Finale

Carn Dûm

Fight through the outer fortress and use the side passages to reach the interior.

Pull the marked levers to open the gates.

As usual, kill:

  1. Sorcerers
  2. Archers
  3. Armored melee enemies

Before entering the Citadel, check Gameplay Stats again.

If your total kills are below 600, replay a dense section or Gate Chamber until you reach the requirement.

Achievement: Bane of Mordor

Reach 600 total kills.

Achievement: Champion of the North

Reach level 20.

If you’re slightly short, don’t panic. Replay a dense combat section before the finale.

Dragon-hoard – Reach 25,000 Coins

Now check your coin balance.

You need to have 25,000 coins held at one time.

Sell ordinary weapons and armor.

But once again:

Do not sell yellow-name set pieces.

You can move equipment between Andriel, Eradan and Farin, so inspect all three inventories.

Achievement: Dragon-hoard

Holding 25,000 coins unlocks the achievement.

Once you have enough money, you can start thinking about respec tokens for Heroic.

Step 12: Agandaûr – The One Thing You Must Not Do

The final Agandaûr battle has one very specific requirement.

During the fight, eventually you’ll receive a message indicating that wounded Beleram can help.

Do not summon him.

Leave the summon prompt alone.

Don’t accidentally press the summon button.

Finish Agandaûr using your own weapons and abilities.

Achievement: Eagle Savior

Refusing to summon Beleram during this final fight unlocks the achievement.

This is the easiest achievement in the game to accidentally ruin because you’ve spent the entire campaign getting used to calling Beleram whenever possible.

For this fight, do the opposite.

Finish Normal

Defeat Agandaûr.

Allow the game to save the completed campaign.

Achievement: Hero of the North

Complete the Normal campaign.

Achievement: Victorious in Battle

After the ending, choose to continue the same save into Heroic.

Do not start a fresh level-one campaign.

Step 13: Heroic New Game Plus

Set Up Farin

Choose Farin.

Equip the strongest crossbow you have available and your best usable armor.

Maximize:

  • Explosive Bolt
  • Crossbow Adept

Then work toward:

  • Indomitable Spirit
  • War-cry

The collectibles don’t need to be repeated, so focus on the story and the remaining achievement requirements.

Now for wrath, now for ruin!

Find a group of weaker enemies.

Allow four enemies to cluster together.

Fire a fully upgraded Explosive Bolt into the group.

You need four enemies to die from the same blast.

Achievement: Now for wrath, now for ruin!

The easiest place to work on this is a dense goblin encounter such as Gate Chamber.

Like a Thunderbolt

Equip your strongest crossbow.

Use Hero Mode and a Power or Hero’s potion if you have one.

Use Explosive Bolt or Heavy Bolt against an unarmored enemy.

You need one displayed hit above:

3,000 damage

Achievement: Like a Thunderbolt

Once a single ranged attack exceeds 3,000 damage, the achievement unlocks.

Fell-handed

Switch to your strongest two-handed weapon.

Enter Hero Mode.

Use War-cry.

Then hit an unarmored goblin with Crushing Blow.

You need one displayed hit above:

1,500 damage

Achievement: Fell-handed

The achievement unlocks when the required melee damage is reached.

Step 14: Battle-master and Warrior Exemplar

These two are easier if you handle your respecs deliberately.

After Dragon-hoard, town merchants can sell respec tokens for around 16,000 coins.

Don’t waste the tokens randomly.

Battle-master build

You need at least one rank in every Farin active-cast skill, following the prerequisites where necessary.

The relevant active skills are:

  • War-cry
  • Sweeping Attack
  • Crushing Blow
  • Shield Bash
  • Whirlwind
  • Earthshaker
  • Heavy Bolt
  • Shield Charge
  • Indomitable Spirit
  • Explosive Bolt

Light up the tenth active skill and close the skill menu.

Achievement: Battle-master

Once the required active skills are unlocked, the achievement should trigger.

Warrior Exemplar

Use your second respec.

Build through Farin’s War-cry modifier path.

You need:

  • Dwarf-armor
  • Taunt
  • Retaliation
  • Fortitude
  • Abundant Harm
  • Indomitable Spirit
  • Battle-fury
  • Battle-ready

Purchase prerequisite ranks whenever required.

Achievement: Warrior Exemplar

Once every required War-cry modifier is unlocked, this achievement should pop.

Afterward, you can respec back into the Explosive Bolt build if you prefer.

Step 15: Heroic Finale

You don’t need to repeat the collectible route.

Mainline the campaign.

Use Beleram freely because the Normal-only Eagle Savior requirement has already been secured.

Keep an eye on:

  • Sappers
  • Trolls
  • Defensive objectives
  • Companion revives

Defeat Agandaûr and finish the campaign.

Achievement: Hero of Legend

Complete the Heroic campaign.

Then continue the same save into Legendary.

Step 16: Legendary – Living Shield

This is one of the stranger achievements in the game.

Start Fornost: Main Gate as Farin.

At first, use relatively weak armor.

You need to take a lot of damage without blocking.

Look for the encounter involving exploding fire goblins and the red explosive bomb on the ground.

Clear ordinary enemies but leave the relevant damage source available.

Stand near the bomb and hit it with a melee attack.

Let the resulting damage affect you.

You need to accumulate:

25,000 damage

during this one level.

Don’t block.

Let an AI companion revive you when necessary and repeat the process.

If the whole party dies and the game reloads the checkpoint, continue the Main Gate run rather than changing maps.

Achievement: Living Shield

Once you’ve absorbed the required 25,000 damage, the achievement should unlock.

Immediately put your strongest armor back on.

Step 17: Find a Complete Six-Piece Armor Set

This is where all those yellow armor pieces you refused to sell finally become useful.

A qualifying set needs all six matching armor slots:

  • Head
  • Shoulders
  • Body
  • Gloves
  • Leggings
  • Boots

Weapons, shields, rings and amulets don’t count toward the six-piece armor requirement.

Some possible set families include:

  • Alliance
  • Stronghold
  • Marksman
  • Warlord
  • Adamant
  • Bright-flame
  • Battlement
  • Dragon-fire

The exact set isn’t the important part.

What matters is that all six pieces share the same yellow set name.

How to Complete the Armor Set

Check all three characters.

It’s surprisingly easy to have five pieces sitting in storage while the sixth is equipped on somebody you forgot about.

If you’re missing a piece, check merchants in:

  • Bree
  • Sarn Ford
  • Rivendell
  • Nordinbad

Travel between towns to refresh the available stock.

You can also replay combat areas for more money.

Keep checking merchants until you find the missing slot.

Trading with another player can also work as a fallback if you already have someone willing to help.

Once you have all six pieces, equip them on one compatible character at the same time.

Owning the pieces across multiple characters isn’t enough.

Achievement: Well-arrayed

Equip all six matching pieces simultaneously.

Step 18: Legendary Campaign

Now the remaining job is mostly survival.

Farin’s Explosive Bolt build is excellent here.

Use it to remove ranged enemy groups before they can stagger you.

Keep health and power potions stocked.

During difficult fights, retreat instead of stubbornly trying to finish an enemy while your companions are down.

At Nordinbad, watch the sappers closely.

At Agandaûr, roll through magic attacks instead of trying to block everything.

Beleram can be used normally on Legendary.

Defeat Agandaûr and finish the campaign.

Achievement: Against All Odds

Complete the Legendary campaign.

At this point, the three campaign completion achievements should all be finished.

Step 19: Strength of Our Alliance – Three-Player Achievement

This is the one achievement I’d handle separately rather than trying to force into the main three-playthrough route.

You need three human players.

AI companions do not count.

The easiest setup is Normal difficulty in Fornost: Main Gate.

Have all three players join the same campaign.

Find a durable early enemy.

Two players should stop attacking while the host weakens the enemy until the yellow critical indicator appears.

Then position all three players around the marked enemy.

Count down together.

All three players need to perform the heavy critical/execution attack at the same time.

The game should display:

Group Kill

Achievement: Strength of Our Alliance

Once the synchronized three-player finisher succeeds, the achievement unlocks.

If only the host gets the achievement, rotate the hosting setup and repeat the process.

Do not assume AI companions can substitute for another human player.

Step 20: Challenge Maps and DLC

Challenge Maps

Osgiliath and Lórien become available after Chapter 1 through Challenge mode.

They’re optional horde-style areas.

They don’t have Steam achievements tied to them.

They’re useful for practicing combat, but don’t rely on Challenge mode to fix campaign-specific counters.

The Original Release DLC

The original release has several equipment DLC packs:

  • Human Pack
  • Elf Pack
  • Dwarf Pack
  • Film Pack
  • Orc Champion Sword

These are equipment additions rather than new campaign content.

They don’t add achievements to the 46-achievement Steam list.

The Legacy Edition also doesn’t expose separate Steam DLC achievement requirements for these bonus items.

So if you’re chasing 100%, you don’t need to worry about adding extra DLC achievements to your route.
