If you’ve just returned to Mermaid Isle after hearing that the game is back in August 2026, you’re probably going to have that exact moment where you look around and think, “Okay… what am I actually supposed to do first?”
That’s completely normal.
Mermaid Isle is one of those Roblox games where the fun comes from exploring, finding little secrets, meeting NPCs, collecting pearls, completing quests, crafting things, and slowly figuring out what the different areas are for. It doesn’t throw everything at you in a neat checklist, which is part of its charm, but it can also make the first few hours confusing.
So rather than sending you off to figure everything out yourself, this guide brings together the important beginner information you need after the August 2026 re-release. I’ll explain what to do first, where the important NPCs are, how quests and crafting work, how to earn pearls, how the music system works, and a bunch of small things that are easy to miss.
Mermaid Isle Beginner Guide – Quests, Pearls, NPC
When you first enter Mermaid Isle, don’t worry too much about trying to unlock everything immediately.
Your first goal should simply be to explore the map and get comfortable swimming between the different areas.
You’ll quickly notice that the game is much more exploration-focused than a typical Roblox progression game. There isn’t some giant quest marker constantly telling you where to go. A lot of the interesting stuff is tucked away around islands, reefs, underwater areas, and smaller locations.
I’d recommend spending a little time learning where the main areas are before worrying about collecting every item.
Once you’ve done that, start looking for Gold, because she’s the NPC connected to the main quest progression.
How to Start Quests in Mermaid Isle
Gold is one of the first NPCs you should find.
You can find her around Mermaid Isle, near one of the smaller islands. There’s one slightly annoying thing to know before you start swimming around wondering where she went: Gold doesn’t always stay in the same spot.
She can swim away from her usual location.
So if you arrive and she’s nowhere to be found, don’t assume you’ve gone to the wrong place. Give it a little time and she should eventually return.
Once you speak with Gold and progress through her quest, you can receive 200 Pearls.
As you continue playing, Gold gives you additional tasks that involve exploring the map and interacting with different parts of the world.
This is worth doing early because quests give you a reason to visit areas you might otherwise completely overlook.
How Pearls Work in Mermaid Isle
Pearls are one of the main currencies you’ll be using, particularly for customization and purchases.
You’ll earn them through quests and other activities, and you’ll eventually find yourself wanting quite a few if you’re interested in collecting tails, accessories, and other cosmetic items.
One thing I would avoid doing as a new player is immediately spending every Pearl you earn.
Explore first.
Once you’ve figured out which cosmetics you actually want, you can start spending your currency more intentionally instead of buying something just because you happened to see it first.
How to Craft Items in Mermaid Isle
Crafting is handled through Ekko in Tranquil Waters.
When you find Ekko, interacting with him opens your inventory and crafting interface.
From there, choose the item you want to make. The game will show you the materials required, and if you’ve collected everything, you can craft the item and claim it.
The nice part is that you don’t have to memorize every recipe.
There is a View All Crafting Recipes option that lets you browse the available recipes and see which materials you’ll need.
That makes it much easier to decide what resources are actually worth picking up while you’re exploring.
And trust me, it’s worth checking recipes before randomly selling or ignoring things you find around the map. An item that looks useless at first may be needed for something later.
How to Craft Pearls
One particularly useful crafting option is Pearls themselves.
You can craft 160 Pearls using:
5 Gold Essence + 2 Shells
There is also another Pearl recipe using:
15 Blue Essence + 2 Shells
That recipe also gives you 160 Pearls.
So if you’ve been collecting Essence and Shells during your exploration, don’t automatically assume they’re just random materials sitting in your inventory. They can be converted into something you’ll actually use.
Mermaid Isle Secret Lair and Liar
There is also a small secret worth knowing about.
You can unlock a hidden room containing a Liar by following the correct musical notes displayed on the wall.
Once you enter the correct sequence, the secret entrance opens.
Swim all the way down and you’ll eventually find the Liar.
It’s important to set expectations here, though. This isn’t some incredibly powerful secret item that completely changes your character.
The Liar is mostly a fun collectible/prop that you can use for singing and taking pictures.
There’s also a catch: only one Liar is available per server.
So if another player gets there first, you’ll have to try again in another server.
Mermaid Isle Animals You Can Interact With
One of the best parts of Mermaid Isle is that the world doesn’t feel completely static.
You can interact with several of the creatures you encounter while swimming around.
Some examples include:
- Turtles
- Crabs
- Little Sebastians
- Sea angels
- Dolphins
Sea angels are particularly interesting because you can sing to them to attract more of them.
And then there are dolphins, which are probably the most fun creatures to interact with.
How to Ride Dolphins
Yes, you can actually ride dolphins in Mermaid Isle.
The tricky part is catching one.
Dolphins aren’t exactly going to stop and wait patiently for you to catch up, so you’ll need to swim quickly enough to get alongside one.
Once you manage it, though, you can ride with them and use them for some pretty fun screenshots.
There are also additional dolphin-related cosmetics and secrets around the game, so if you’re the type of player who enjoys collecting unusual things rather than simply completing quests, definitely keep an eye out for them.
Mermaid Isle NPC Locations
Knowing where the NPCs are saves you a lot of unnecessary swimming.
Here are some of the important NPCs mentioned in the game:
Gold — Cradle Reef
Gold is associated with quests and Pearl rewards.
Ekko — Tranquil Waters
Ekko is the NPC you visit for crafting.
Dasha — Echoing Spires
Dasha is where you can go to buy emotes.
Florian — Cradle Reef
Florian keeps track of how many animals you’ve helped.
There is also an unnamed NPC at Wingtight Sanctuary. Unlike the others, this character currently doesn’t appear to have an interaction.
You may also encounter other mermaids around places such as Cradle Reef and Tranquil Waters, so don’t assume every NPC you meet is part of the main questline.
How to Customize Your Mermaid
Character customization can be a little confusing when you’re starting out because some items aren’t equipped from the same place you’d expect.
For example, if you have an accessory such as the seaweed piece, you first need to purchase it through the catalog under the appropriate overlay section.
After purchasing it, go into the customization menu and equip it from the overlay section.
Also, if you notice a strange black outline around an item or your character, check your effects.
Sometimes an effect can make your character look completely different from what you intended. You can remove it through the Effects section.
It’s a small thing, but it’ll save you from wondering why your carefully designed mermaid suddenly has a random outline around her.
How to Change Your Mermaid Tail
Your tail is managed separately from the normal character customization.
Open the Mermaid menu and select Tails.
You’ll then see the different tail categories available to you.
For example, selecting Colorful World will show the tail options you have unlocked in that category.
If you see a tail you don’t own yet, head to the shop and purchase it using Pearls.
Once you’ve unlocked it, you can return to the tail menu and equip it.
How to Complete the Pop Bubbles Quest
One of Gold’s quests involves popping five bubbles.
This one can be slightly annoying until you understand how the music mechanic works.
When you approach a bubble, you need to play the correct musical note to pop it.
You can access the musical controls either through the appropriate keyboard key or by clicking the music icon.
The bubbles are generally found around the outer edges of the map, farther away from the main land areas.
One thing to watch for is that some bubbles can pop on their own before you get a chance to interact with them.
So if you’re doing this quest, don’t spend forever swimming around waiting for the same bubble. Keep moving and look for the others.
Once you’ve popped five, return to Gold to claim your reward.
How the Seahorse Quest Works
Another quest has you searching for seahorses.
After the seahorses swim upward, they’ll remain around the nearby area rather than scattering across the entire map.
That makes this quest considerably easier once you know what you’re looking for.
The biggest mistake is swimming too far away while searching. Stay around the area where they initially appear and look carefully before moving somewhere else.
How to Complete the Eel Quest
The Lyan Eel quest is another musical challenge.
After swimming past Hermit Isle, you’ll eventually encounter the area associated with this quest.
Your job is to hit the correct musical notes quickly enough to deal with the eels.
There are 10 eels to take care of.
Here’s a useful trick: you don’t necessarily have to wait patiently for each individual note. You can spam the musical notes as a strategy, which can make the challenge considerably less frustrating.
It’s one of those quests that sounds complicated until you actually try it.
How to Complete the Whale Song Island Quest
The Whale Song quest takes you toward an island in Tranquil Waters.
Once you reach the island, you’ll need to wait for the whale to pass nearby.
When the whale appears, use the musical symbols and play the required notes.
After successfully completing the interaction, you’ll be able to claim the Pearl reward.
The important part is patience. If you arrive at the island and nothing seems to be happening, don’t immediately leave. The whale needs to pass by before you can complete the musical interaction.
What Is the Connection Song?
The music system isn’t only used for quests.
There’s a specific song called Connection that you can access through the music menu.
Open the music icon, select the additional music note option, and you’ll find the Connection song.
From there, play the notes in the correct order.
One useful feature of this song is that it can help you locate other players.
So it’s not just a little musical minigame. It can also be useful when you’re trying to find someone around the map.
How to Swim Faster in Mermaid Isle
If you’re spending half your play session swimming from one island to another, you’ll definitely want to know about the speed option.
There is a swim-speed bubble that allows you to swim faster.
Use it when you’re travelling long distances instead of slowly swimming everywhere at normal speed.
It sounds like a tiny feature, but once you’ve spent enough time travelling around Mermaid Isle, you’ll appreciate it.
Mermaid Isle Fast Travel Arches
The game also has a transportation system that makes getting around much easier.
You’ll find special arches around the map with musical symbol patterns displayed on them.
The idea is simple:
Look at the musical sequence on the arch, play the correct notes, and the arch activates.
Once activated, you’re transported through a swirling underwater tunnel to another area.
These are essentially your fast-travel points.
I’d recommend activating the arches whenever you come across them. Even if you don’t need to travel somewhere immediately, unlocking transportation options early makes later quests much less tedious.
Mermaid Isle Secret Items and Collectibles
Mermaid Isle has plenty of things that aren’t necessarily required to progress.
That’s honestly one of the reasons I like exploring this game.
Some of the notable items and features include:
Guardian Dolphin Set
This gives you the ability to become part of the dolphin experience, allowing you to swim alongside them and even look like one.
Trespasser and Reef Dragon tails
These are additional tail styles that you can purchase or gift.
VIP Pearl Tail Set
A cosmetic set connected to the VIP game pass.
Music Box
A cute cosmetic item that comes with different poses and interactions.
Ocean’s Eye
This is particularly useful if you’re interested in finding hidden Pearls because it can reveal the locations of hidden Pearls around you.
Seashell
One of the more useful tools for players who enjoy taking screenshots, because it provides access to a free-camera feature.
How to Use the Seashell Free Camera
If you have the Seashell, you can use it to activate Free Cam.
This is great for taking screenshots because you aren’t limited to the normal camera position.
Once Free Cam is active, you can move the camera around the map and frame your character however you want.
You can also use Shift to move more slowly, which is useful when you’re trying to get a precise shot.
Want a dramatic close-up? You can do that.
Want a massive shot showing the entire underwater environment? Also possible.
The free camera is especially fun if you’re interested in making Roblox content or just want better pictures of your mermaid.
Free Cam Mouse Problem
There’s a small annoyance with Free Cam where your mouse can become difficult to see.
If you’re struggling to figure out where your cursor went, open the settings and enable the mouse/cursor option again.
That should make it much easier to control the camera.
You can also use the player list to spectate other players when you’re in a server where that option is available.
How to Become a Mermaid and Customize Your Appearance
Mermaid Isle puts a surprising amount of emphasis on appearance.
You can customize things such as:
- Hair colors
- Skin tones
- Tails
- Accessories
- Emotes
- Poses
- Cosmetic effects
So don’t feel like you need to settle for the default appearance.
The best part is that a lot of the customization is tied to exploration and Pearl collection, meaning your character can gradually become more unique as you play.
How Combat Works in Mermaid Isle
Mermaid Isle isn’t only about swimming around and taking pretty screenshots.
There is also a combat area called the Dismaring Pool.
Getting there requires you to swim down toward the deeper areas of the map.
Keep going down until you find the entrance to the combat area.
Once inside, you’ll be able to choose your weapon and begin the challenge.
Mermaid Isle Combat Waves
The combat challenge consists of four waves.
If you’re completely new, I’d strongly recommend playing with other players rather than immediately trying to solo it.
You can attempt it alone, but having other players around makes things considerably easier, especially while you’re still learning how the combat works.
There’s also a cooldown of roughly five minutes, so you don’t want to jump into the challenge unprepared and then have to wait around before attempting it again.
What Should New Players Focus On?
If you’re coming back to Mermaid Isle because of the August 2026 re-release, I wouldn’t try to complete everything in one session.
A much better approach is to gradually build yourself up.
Start by exploring the major areas and finding Gold. Complete her quests and collect your Pearls. Then find Ekko and learn how crafting works.
After that, start paying attention to the map itself.
Look for the transportation arches, secret areas, animals, hidden Pearls, and NPCs. You’ll naturally start learning the layout without having to memorize every location.
Once you have a decent amount of Pearls, that’s when I’d start worrying about the cosmetic side of the game.
Buy the tail you actually like rather than spending everything on the first item you see.
And if you’re interested in combat, get some experience with the Dismaring Pool after you’ve become comfortable with movement.
