If you’re just starting out in Roblox Project Aura, the game can feel pretty confusing at first. There are quests, characters, potions, food, stats, enchantments, expeditions, runes, auras, and several other systems that unlock as you play.
In this post, I’ll walk you through the main features and explain what each NPC does, what you should focus on early, and how the different progression systems work. The game is built around RNG, but there is still plenty you can do to make your account stronger.
I’ll also explain why you should keep your extra characters, how to use expeditions, and why awakening your units becomes such an important part of your progression.
Project Aura Beginner Guide – Trello, Quest, Enchantments
When you first enter Project Aura, you’ll have a series of quests to complete.
These quests work almost like the game’s story or tutorial progression. They introduce you to different mechanics and gradually unlock more features.
The quest line goes up to around 40 quests, and completing them is one of the easiest ways to learn how the game works.
I recommend simply working through these quests instead of worrying about every locked NPC or feature you see around the map. A lot of the game’s systems become available naturally as you progress.
Project Aura Main Menus
There are several important menus you’ll want to learn early.
Dice
The Dice system is where you get your characters.
It also shows the other items you’ve collected throughout the game, including things such as potions and food.
Since characters are central to your progression, you’ll be using this system frequently as you play.
Index
The Index keeps track of the different things you’ve unlocked.
This can include:
- Characters
- Potions
- Food
- Materials
- Other items
The important part is that the Index also gives you rewards as you unlock new things.
Because of this, don’t ignore it. Whenever you obtain something new, check your Index and see if you’ve reached another reward.
Skill Tree
The Skill Tree contains additional progression options that become available as you continue playing.
Some of the more advanced systems, including Runes, are connected to this progression.
Shop
The Shop is where you can purchase game passes and other available items.
For a new player, though, the more important thing is learning the regular progression systems before worrying about optional purchases.
Exploration
The Exploration tab becomes one of the most important parts of the game later on.
You’ll unlock more expeditions as you progress, and these expeditions provide materials needed for crafting and upgrading your characters.
Project Aura NPCs
Several NPCs are available around the game world, and each one handles a different part of your progression.
Some NPCs may appear locked when you first start playing. This is normal.
You unlock additional NPCs and systems by continuing to play and unlocking things such as potions, stats, workshops, and enchanting.
Chef
The Chef allows you to craft food for your characters.
Food provides temporary stat boosts, which can make your units stronger.
For example, the transcript shows an Iron Fist Bento that provides a damage increase for a limited duration.
After crafting food, return to your base and select one of your characters. You can equip the food from the character menu.
Once the food effect expires, the game can automatically use another available meal if you have one equipped for that purpose.
So, if you’re trying to maximize your character’s performance, make sure you actually give your crafted food to your units rather than simply leaving it in your inventory.
Alchemist
The Alchemist works similarly to the Chef, but instead of food, this NPC allows you to craft potions.
These potions provide different temporary boosts.
Some of the potion effects mentioned in the guide include:
- Critical Chance
- Stat Lock
- XP
- Movement Speed
- Luck
- Damage
- Critical Damage
- Enchantment-related effects
Potions are useful when you want an additional boost for your characters or specific parts of your progression.
The materials used for crafting them come from other parts of the game, particularly Exploration.
Artisan
The Artisan handles crafting materials and items that you need for other progression systems.
This becomes especially important later because you’ll need the Artisan to craft Effigies.
Effigies are required for awakening characters, so don’t overlook this NPC once the awakening system becomes available.
Keep Progressing to Unlock More NPCs
If you see NPCs that are currently blacked out or unavailable, don’t worry about them.
You unlock more of the game’s systems by simply playing and completing your progression.
As you work through the quests, you’ll gradually unlock things such as:
- More stats
- Movement Speed boosts
- XP boosts
- Damage boosts
- Luck boosts
- Workshops
- Enchanting
- Exploration
- Other progression systems
This is why completing the early quests is so important.
Exploration and Expeditions
Once you unlock the Exploration tab, you gain access to expeditions that provide important crafting materials.
You won’t necessarily have every expedition available immediately. More of them unlock as you progress further.
The three expeditions mentioned in the guide are Alchemist’s Grove, Golden Kitchen, and Rune Vaults.
Each one provides different materials.
Alchemist’s Grove
Alchemist’s Grove provides materials needed to craft potions.
If you’re regularly using the Alchemist, you’ll want to keep these expeditions running so you have the resources required for additional potion crafting.
Golden Kitchen
Golden Kitchen provides materials used for crafting food.
Since food gives your characters temporary stat boosts, this expedition is useful for keeping your supply of meals available.
Rune Vaults
Rune Vaults is one of the most important expeditions because it provides resources used for Effigies and Runes.
If you’re working toward stronger characters and better base bonuses, you’ll eventually want to spend plenty of time on this expedition.
Use the Stat Roller
The Stat Roller allows you to roll stats for your characters.
The general idea is simple: better stats can make your characters perform better and deal more damage.
For example, you can choose a stat such as Critical Chance and roll it for your character.
Because this is an RNG system, you may need to roll multiple times before getting the stats you want.
As your characters become stronger, improving their stats becomes another way to push their damage higher.
How Enchanting Works
The Enchanter is another major progression NPC.
The system works somewhat like a trait system in other tower defense games.
Enchantments provide additional bonuses to your characters.
One example from the guide is Crystal Crusher, which increases damage dealt to crystals.
The guide recommends using Crystal Crusher on the characters you deploy at your base to destroy crystals.
If a character is responsible for dealing damage to crystals, giving them bonuses specifically designed to increase crystal damage makes sense.
The goal is to get as much DPS as possible from those characters.
Best Enchantments for Expedition Characters
You don’t necessarily want to give every character the same enchantments.
For characters that you send on Exploration, the guide recommends looking for bonuses that specifically improve expedition performance.
Two important examples are:
Expedition Boost
Expedition Boost gives you a chance to receive double rewards from expeditions.
This can increase the number of materials you receive without requiring you to run additional expeditions.
Deep Path Finder
Deep Path Finder reduces the duration of an exploration.
That means your expedition characters can finish their assignments faster and start another expedition sooner.
If you’re regularly sending characters out on Exploration, these bonuses can be very useful.
Unlocking Runes
As you progress through the Skill Tree, you’ll eventually unlock Runes.
Runes act as additional bonuses that you can equip to your base.
They can provide different effects depending on the Rune you obtain.
For example, the guide shows a stat-related Rune that can remove lower-quality stats from the Stat Roller system.
To obtain and roll Runes, you need to complete the relevant Rune explorations.
Once you’ve obtained a Rune, you can equip it to your base to gain its additional bonus.
This makes Rune progression another important long-term goal.
How Auras Work
Project Aura also has an Aura system.
You can visit the Aura Master to roll for an Aura.
The Aura you receive is random, and it provides additional stats.
Higher-rarity Auras provide better stat bonuses, so you can continue rolling as you try to improve your Aura.
For example, the guide shows a Luck Aura.
If you’re trying to improve your overall account, don’t forget about this system once it becomes available.
What Are Effigies?
Effigies are extremely important for character progression.
They are used to awaken characters, allowing you to make your units stronger and unlock additional enchantment slots.
The materials needed to craft Effigies come from Exploration, which is another reason why you should keep your expeditions running.
You can use the Artisan to craft the Effigies once you have the required materials.
Never Delete Your Extra Characters
This is one of the most important beginner tips from the guide:
Keep your characters.
You may eventually collect units that you don’t plan to use because they don’t deal enough damage or aren’t part of your main team.
It can be tempting to delete or sell these characters, but you shouldn’t.
Characters are used as fodder for awakening higher-rarity units.
For example, awakening a Mythical character can require multiple Legendary units.
If you’ve deleted all of your lower-value characters, you may end up blocking your own progression because you no longer have the units required for awakening.
The guide also shows that deleting a character doesn’t provide a worthwhile return.
So, even if you’re not using a character, keep it.
How Character Awakening Works
Awakening is one of the main ways to make your characters stronger.
To awaken a character, you’ll need a combination of:
- Other characters as fodder
- Shards
- Effigies
Shards can be obtained by destroying crystals.
Effigies are crafted using materials obtained through Exploration.
The higher the awakening or Effigy rank of a character, the more progression you can unlock.
Awakening Gives More Damage and Enchantment Slots
Awakening isn’t only about increasing damage.
It can also increase the number of enchantment slots available on your character.
For example, the guide compares characters with different Effigy ranks and shows that characters with higher ranks can have more enchantment slots.
That means awakening gives you two major benefits:
- More character power
- More room for additional enchantment bonuses
This makes awakening a system you should start working toward as soon as you have the required materials.
Higher Awakening Requires More Fodder
As you move toward the higher awakening stages, the requirements become more demanding.
You’ll need higher-rarity Effigies and additional fodder characters.
This is exactly why keeping your entire character collection is so important.
Even characters that look weak right now can become useful later when you’re trying to awaken one of your stronger units.
There are a lot of systems in Project Aura, but you don’t need to understand everything immediately.
Start with the quests and let them introduce you to the different mechanics. Once you unlock Exploration, make sure you’re using it regularly because its materials feed into several other systems.
The biggest mistake I would avoid is deleting characters you aren’t currently using. Those units can become important fodder for awakening stronger characters later.
You should also pay attention to what each character is being used for. Your main combat units benefit from bonuses such as Crystal Crusher, while expedition characters are better suited to bonuses like Expedition Boost and Deep Path Finder.
Finally, keep upgrading your account through stats, enchantments, Runes, Auras, and awakenings. Project Aura has a lot of RNG, but steadily improving these systems gives you plenty of ways to make your characters and overall account stronger.
