Ravenswatch Characters Tier List (December 2024)
A Ravenswatch Characters Tier List guide offering ideas on how you may play each character, and how you may play them differently with one or the other, all of these ideas however are simple thoughts to entertain any uninspired player, in the hopes that this guide may point them in the right direction of who they wanna play, and whom you’ll enjoy the most.
The idea is simple, bait the attacks, then move in for the kill, back up and away, to bait their attacks again, then the cycle continues, simple right?
Hit and Run
Gun and gone
etc.
But keep in mind, every character has an ability that ties into what we gamers call, I-frames, short for invulnerability frames, a moment in an action that gives our characters short invulnerability periods to give as an edge to the fights, so that we may stay in the hitting phase before continuing to the running phase, however, this game breaks that concept, calling these I-frames Intangible instead, meaning you can still be hurt during these brief moments of respite, I’ll be making sure to point all of those out in due time,
but do try to remember that dashing is only for movement, unless you have the Witch’s Broom, of course
Scarlet
Now if you are constantly Alert on the game, Scarlet’s a good pick for you, focus on dealing damage, and avoiding damage at the same time whenever you can, Scarlet in both forms has I-frames on her Power Abilities, but in human, she gets her second I-frame ability on Defense, and on Werewolf form, she uses her Special as an I-frame, use these to create opportunities to deal more damage, and avoid more damage.
I probably don’t need to say it, but in Werewolf form, you can get a fat stack of healing by executing an enemy with a Power Ability while the Defense Ability buff is still active, it tends to get a little difficult to avoid damage as the Werewolf, but this added life-steal was simply enough to keep you alive in the occasions that you do get injured.
The Pied Piper
To enjoy The Pied Piper, one must know the concept of bravery, to be brave is not to be dauntless or fearless, it is to face your fears no matter how terrified you may be, The Pied Piper brings that concept in through the act of walking and shooting, this character only has one way of defending himself once put into a corner, and we don’t want to rely on that to protect and save us so we must play our fights around dashing and walking, kiting enemies into your kill zones, your Special Ability, then bashing them back in with your Defense, to both stun them and push them away.
Simply put, you should probably learn how to run and gun without dropping your damage, those rats can keep up the damage you’re missing when you’re too busy moving and running, so never let them build up for too much and too long, a person can only truly miss if they never shot after all, especially with so many rats ready to serve as your bullets.
Beowulf
The trick to Beowulf, is to feel Calm, you have all the makings of a warrior through shield and sword, coming in with two I-frames, you can feel the most at ease with your Defense Ability, when covered by a shield of health, blocking damage from any direction will heal not just yourself, but allies too, useful for when you want to jump in front of a bullet to keep your allies safe, and once you’ve defended yourself from matters of harms a plenty,.
You may continue to strike with your Special Ability, avoiding any more possible damage, or just follow up with an Attack, or Power Ability, having more spins on Beowulf’s Special Ability also increases the duration of his I-frames, so keep that in mind if you’re feeling a little off your game.
I say to play Calm so that you can focus on your cooldowns, your Trait Ability can empower your next abilities so keep that in mind whenever you want to do more stun, more damage, or more healing.
Oh and, don’t forget to hold down the Defense button so that you don’t instantly bash an enemy with it as soon as you cast it.
The Snow Queen
When you think of ice, the first thing you’d think about is cold, right?
Well then, this Queen carries that chill into her arsenal, to play her, I think it is appropriate to consider, being Strategic, keep your eyes on the prize, your Power, Defense, and Ultimate Abilities cause chill, Chill empowers the damage of both your Attack, and Special Abilities, so consider those you want to be gone from the fight sooner, and focus on hitting them whenever they’re Chilled.
Though it’s short, her trait ability gives her an I-frame but shatters all those who’ve been chilled, a trade-off for a bit of damage and avoiding taking damage, however, her Defense Ability also gives her an I-frame, at the initial start of it.
It shall give you an I-frame, but did you know that canceling it early reduces it’s cooldown significantly? so cancel it early whenever you can so you may always have that I-frame at the ready, I highly recommend not sliding into crowds, maybe only on individual enemies for you can use your Power ability to Chill a group of enemies without wasting an I-frame for a longer cooldown.
Aladdin
This charming thief of ours carries a great responsibility, in this responsibility is called, be Decisive, never hesitate on when to strike and when to retreat, the fights demand your quick thinking and adaptability to many situations, but your really important ability, is the ability to be rich.
Don’t spend your time walking around when there’s dream shards to be gained, so supply yourself with wishes and make those important decisions carefully, one wrong wish could waste your efforts very quickly, but fear not, for money solves all your problems by purchasing more wishes with a 150 Shards, but keep in mind, doing so leaves you vulnerable for attacks throughout the animation
So it’s best to prepare one or two ahead of time, while as consuming a wish seems to give some I-frames, I more highly recommend using just your Defense Ability to avoid damage at all, vaulting over enemies leaves them vulnerable for follow up attacks, so strike with an Attack or two, then use Defense to vault over a target, then throw in those lovely spinning blades before diving back in with your power if it’s still considerably safe.
Just try not to run out of wishes too early, you get one extra finishing a stage, so don’t be stingy on using them too, they’re powerful after all.
Melusine
The best thing to keep in mind, is Fluidity, to feel fluid in your movements and your actions, to tailor your attacks to deal huge bursts of damage consistently, while also taking fights safely from a currently safe spot, to a cheek little safe spot behind a wall, for the orb she carries hovers and dances with her songs.
Each note a tidal wave of their own as they bring large areas of effect damage, and high bursts of damage and chain reactions, her Special Ability is useful for pushing enemies back just a bit while doing plenty stun damage, along with her Power Ability doing moderate bursts of damage per splash, and as for her Defense Ability
She dives underwater and re-emerged after a little bit, just enough time and distance away to reposition yourself with a dash as well, allowing her to dance and sing within a crowd no matter how surrounded she may become, having the power to stun enemies quite easily and dive out of danger is already plenty of time to deal damage and keep herself safe after all.
Geppetto
Geppetto is quite the character, I prefer to think of him as a Hybrid between Melee and Ranged classes, so if you’re fond of Multi-tasking, then this old man has plenty to work with, the reason for this are his Scoundrels, to keep them alive, you may use your Special and Attack abilities to repair them, mostly relying on your Attack to stave off any chip damage they take, but despite working on the front-lines, you also work at the back-lines, to keep yourself safe, sometimes you must neglect your Scoundrels and shove them away with your Power Ability, sometimes, in doing so, you may even save your Scoundrel from any heavy-hitting attacks just by moving them out of the way, and once they’re safe.
You can continue walking around safely to setup your next Scoundrels to fight on a different side, now for the most important thing about Geppetto is the up time of your Scoundrels, meaning you want all of your Scoundrels out in the field whenever you’re fighting, losing one means losing damage per second, so maintaining each and every one of them is as important as repositioning them and yourself into safer spots to fight in, it’s why I say it’s a character for Multi-tasking.
Sun Wukong
Sun Wukong is tough, you are rewarded for Parrying attacks but his Trait Ability allows him to swap between stances, one for Damage, and one for Recovery, in any encounter, you want to be Fast and Precise, don’t miss your chance to do Double your damage whenever your Defense Ability is available, but at the same time, chip damage from the smaller enemies becomes more dangerous the more you underestimate them in your Damage stance, so even the tiniest rocks.
I recommend avoiding or parrying with your Defense Ability, and another thing to worry about are Heavy hitting attacks that goes through your Intangibility, examples of this is the big red circle from the Treants slam, then the two giant cone slams from the first area boss.
He does get an I-Frame from his Power Ability, you only receive that intangibility once you’ve ricochet to the next enemy, other than that the Power Ability is also a unreliable way to move around since it automatically locks onto enemies at the direction your aiming then randomly bounces you around, it’s still a faster way to move around though, so make good use of it whenever you can.
Carmilla
Her kit feels resource intensive, so if you’re Resourceful, she might just reward you for your efforts, the name of the game is blood, blood is earned through your Attack and Special Abilities, your I-frames coming from both your Defense and Special, but the most important thing about her, is knowing when to use your Trait ability, not only does it give you a buff depending on the night and day cycle, but you also gain extra movement speed, and you may hold your Power and Defense Abilities for much longer, so the best case scenario, is sustaining that blood pool of yours, make certain that you’ll keep your Trait Ability up for as long as possible to enjoy it’s benefits longer and longer, it’s up-time will likely dictate how well you’re doing for your run.
Afterword
To be clear, I don’t condone players for trying to branch out your characters and my tips might not be that accurate, but I wanted to share my thoughts on what I found useful to know, even learning about where to find the Red Key for Optional bosses was something I had to learn from others (usually it’s around the area of effect of you pinging the Optional boss icon on the map).
There are a lot of ways to play this game and a lot of play-styles to practice, I enjoy dabbling with all the characters just to get a feel of them whenever I play Sun Wukong, for the sole purpose of Transfiguration, the ability to swap into a random hero (in multiplayer, you’re more likely to copy whoever is on your team) with Epic upgraded talents, but to sum this up, just play what feels right to you and learn about what felt wrong to you, there are ways to make up for your weaknesses, but you simply must learn how to counter those issues.
Now if there are any more questions and or concerns, please leave a comment and I will answer to the best of my ability, thank you for reading and do enjoy the game, have fun now!~
