If you’re doing the Oil Sample quest, this is one of those runs where things can go wrong fast. The area is dangerous, but once you understand the layout and approach it carefully, it becomes pretty consistent.
Where to Find Oil Samples
You’ll find all three Oil Samples in the Terminal map (Permadeath area).
From my experience, they almost always spawn every raid, so you don’t need to worry about RNG too much.
Best places to check:
- Around the central pipes (this is where I find them most often)
- Near the side pipes
- Close to the large fuel tanks
Take your time scanning these areas—don’t just rush in.
What Makes This Area Hard
This place is heavily guarded.
- Around 8–10 soldiers
- Most of them use KA-12 rifles
- Enemies are spread across:
- Roads
- Around tanks
- Near pipes
One mistake here and you’re done, especially if you’re overloaded.
How I Approach It
- I usually sneak instead of rushing
- Climb one of the large tanks first
- From there, you can see a lot of the area
- Pick off enemies safely
- Always assume there’s someone behind cover
Also, check tanks carefully—NPCs sometimes sit on or near them.
Important Problem: Weight
Each Oil Sample is 10kg
That means:
- 3 samples = 30kg
- You’ll get slow very quickly
So:
- Don’t bring unnecessary gear
- Keep inventory space ready
- Plan your exit before picking the last one
How to Reach Terminal Safely
Path:
Outpost → Minefield → Apartments → Terminal
Minefield tips:
- Stick to the edge of the map
- You’ll only deal with a few mines (around 4–6)
- Move slowly and watch the ground
Honestly, mines are not the biggest problem.
Real danger:
Border Guards with M4A1
- These guys hit hard
- They can penetrate good armor
Avoid unnecessary fights with them if possible.
School Room Shelter
Once you complete this, you unlock the School Room Shelter, and it’s actually very useful.
Inside you get:
- A locker with good storage space
- Cabinet + shelves
- A bed
Why This Shelter Is So Good
This is where things get interesting.
- You can loot the school
- Leave the shelter
- Come back and it resets
That means:
- You can farm items repeatedly
- Trade with the Doctor for medicine
- Store items and sell later to:
- Generalist
- Gunsmith
It basically becomes a farming loop once you understand it.
