If you are just starting out in Dogs on Roblox, the game can feel pretty difficult at first. You have to survive against groups of dogs while also learning how to move around the map, manage your stamina, and figure out which items are actually worth your coins.
In this beginner guide, I’ll walk you through the basics of how a round works, how you can survive longer, how to earn coins, and what you should spend those coins on. These are the things I would focus on first if I were starting the game again.
The main goal is simple: survive, earn coins, buy better tools, and survive even longer. Once you understand the basic movement and learn how to avoid the dogs, the game becomes much easier. So let’s get into everything you need to know.
Roblox Dogs Beginner Guide – How to Survive, Coins
The main objective in Dogs is to survive the round.
At the beginning of a round, players vote for a map. Once the map is selected, the round starts and dogs begin appearing around the map. Your job is to stay alive for as long as possible.
There can be up to 12 players in a lobby, so you are not completely on your own. You can use other players to your advantage, especially when you don’t have a weapon yet.
Once you survive a round, you earn coins. You can then use those coins in the shop to purchase weapons, healing items, defensive tools, and other useful equipment.
The basic progression is:
Survive → Earn Coins → Buy Tools → Survive Longer → Earn More Coins
The more you play, the better equipment you can afford, which makes future rounds easier.
How to Survive Your First Rounds
When you are completely new, don’t worry about trying to kill every dog you see. Your first priority should simply be staying alive.
Keep Moving
Movement is one of the most important skills in Dogs.
You should avoid standing still for too long because dogs can quickly surround you. Keep moving around the map and watch where the dogs are coming from.
Jumping is also extremely useful. I recommend getting comfortable with jumping while running because it can help you avoid dogs and create some distance when they get close.
Watch Where Dogs Spawn
Pay attention to where the dogs are appearing.
You can often see dogs spawning around the map, so don’t blindly run toward an area where a large group has appeared.
Instead, look around before moving and try to identify where you can safely escape.
Always Have an Escape Route
This is probably one of the most important beginner tips.
Always know where you are going to run if dogs come after you.
Don’t put yourself into a dead end or corner unless you know you can escape from there. If a large group of dogs suddenly appears behind you, having an open route can be the difference between surviving and getting caught.
I try to think about my next escape route before the dogs even get close.
Don’t Run Into Large Groups
If you see a huge group of dogs, don’t try to run directly through them.
Move around the group and look for an opening instead. Running straight into a large pack is one of the easiest ways to get yourself surrounded.
Use Other Players
If you don’t have a weapon yet, other players can be extremely useful.
For example, if another player has a weapon and is shooting the dogs, staying near them can give you some extra protection. You can let armed players deal with the dogs while you focus on staying out of danger.
Of course, don’t rely on this forever. Your goal should be to eventually get your own equipment.
Manage Your Stamina
Stamina is extremely important when you are trying to escape from dogs.
One mistake beginners make is using all of their stamina too early. Then, when the dogs actually start chasing them, they don’t have enough stamina left to escape.
Try not to waste your stamina when there is no immediate danger.
When dogs are far away, you can move normally. Save your stamina for situations where you actually need to make a quick escape.
Dog Day Event
One of the special options you can encounter is Dog Day.
Dog Day makes the game more difficult because you have to deal with even more dogs.
If you are completely new, I recommend learning the normal rounds first. Get comfortable with movement, stamina management, and escaping dogs before trying to deal with the harder situations.
Once you become more confident, Dog Day becomes a good way to test your survival skills.
How to Get Coins
Coins are your main form of progression in Dogs.
The most important way to earn coins is by surviving rounds.
The longer you play and the more rounds you survive, the more coins you can accumulate. You can then spend those coins on better equipment.
For example, after one round you might only have enough money for a cheap item. After playing several more rounds, you can start saving toward stronger weapons.
Don’t Waste Your Coins
When you start earning coins, don’t immediately buy something just because you can afford it.
I recommend saving your coins for useful equipment that will actually help you survive.
Weapons are especially important because the game becomes much harder when you have nothing to defend yourself with.
Instead of buying several cheap items that you don’t really need, it can be better to save toward a weapon that will make future rounds much easier.
Join the Roblox Group
If you plan to play Dogs regularly, joining the game’s Roblox group can be useful.
The group provides additional rewards and can give you a coin multiplier. That means you can get more value from the rounds you play.
So, if you are going to spend a lot of time playing Dogs anyway, I would recommend checking the group and joining it.
What Should Beginners Buy?
Once you have enough coins, head over to the shop and start looking at the available tools.
There are weapons, healing items, defensive equipment, and utility items available.
Save for a Good Weapon
For a beginner, I would prioritize getting a weapon.
Having a weapon makes surviving much easier because you aren’t completely helpless when dogs start surrounding you.
The Hunting Rifle is one example of a weapon you can save for early on. As you earn more coins, you can eventually move toward stronger weapons.
Machine guns can also be extremely useful because they allow you to deal with groups of dogs quickly.
Don’t Buy Everything
You don’t need to own every item in the shop.
Think about what actually helps your playstyle. If you are good at avoiding dogs but struggle when you get surrounded, a weapon might be more useful than another utility item.
The goal is to spend your coins on equipment that makes your survival easier.
Special Events
Not every round in Dogs is going to play out the same way.
There are special events that can completely change how you need to play. Some of the events mentioned include Dog Day, Deadly Instincts, and Juggernaut.
So don’t assume that every round is going to be a normal dog survival round.
Juggernaut
Juggernaut is particularly important because one player can become the Juggernaut.
When this happens, the round is no longer a normal survival situation. You need to pay attention to the event and adjust your strategy accordingly.
If you see Juggernaut appear, immediately recognize that the rules of the situation have changed.
Badges and Achievements
Dogs also has a number of badges that you can unlock while playing.
Some of the easier survival milestones include surviving:
- 1 round
- 10 rounds
- 25 rounds
- 100 rounds
There is even a much bigger milestone for reaching 1,000 survivals.
These give you additional goals to work toward while playing the game.
Azure Dot Badge
The Azure Dot badge is another important badge because it is required for the M249.
So if you want to eventually get some of the more advanced equipment, pay attention to the badge requirements as you progress.
There are also other badges related to things such as the phone in the lobby and avoiding exploits.
Dogs is pretty simple once you understand the basic game loop. You survive rounds, earn coins, use those coins to buy better equipment, and then use that equipment to survive even longer.
When you are a beginner, don’t worry about becoming a pro immediately. Your first goal should be learning how the dogs move and getting comfortable with jumping, running, and managing your stamina.
Once you have enough coins, start investing in weapons and other useful tools. After a while, you will be able to survive much longer, earn more coins, unlock badges, and eventually work your way toward some of the strongest equipment in the game.
