If you’re starting out in The Veil and wondering which race you should be aiming for, the answer depends a lot on how you want to play. Some races are simply better all-rounders, while others are built around specific playstyles like magic, summoning, or tanking.
There are quite a few races to choose from, and their rarity doesn’t always tell you exactly how useful they are. A rare race can sometimes be more practical than a legendary one for a particular build, so I’m ranking these based on how good their abilities actually are, rather than how difficult they are to obtain.
One quick note before we get into the rankings: a couple of races were changed after the original tier list was recorded. Mushling received a new Decompose skill, while Oolite received an active ability that makes it more defensive. I’ve included those changes below so the rankings make sense with the updated versions.
Roblox The Veil Race Tier List – Best Race (October 2026)
After creating your character and entering the game, you can change your race by visiting the Stylist NPC.
Talk to the NPC and choose the option to change your race. This takes you directly to the race screen, where you can use your race rerolls.
This is worth knowing early because you can get free race rerolls from things like daily rewards and potentially from codes. If you receive one, you’ll want to know exactly where to spend it.
The Veil Race Tier List
Here’s how I’d currently rank the races based on their abilities and overall usefulness:
- S Tier: Whale Born
- A Tier: Underling, Goblin, Gem Head, Oolite
- B Tier: Human, Rat, Mushling
- C Tier: Skeleton, Hiveling
The ranking isn’t based on rarity. It’s based on what each race actually brings to your character.
Human – B Tier
Human is the only Common race, so it’s naturally going to be the easiest one to obtain.
Unfortunately, its ability is also pretty basic.
Human gives you 5 additional HP with each prestige. That can add up over time, but it isn’t exactly a game-changing ability.
For example, after 10 prestiges, you would have 50 additional HP compared to someone without the Human bonus.
It’s not useless, especially considering how easy the race is to get, but compared to some of the other races, the benefit is pretty small.
Still, Human gets a respectable B Tier from me.
Goblin – A Tier
Goblin is one of the races that looks much better once you actually look at its bonuses.
It provides:
- +20% Luck
- +10% Cast Damage
- -10% Cast Cooldown
That is a really strong combination.
The Luck bonus is already useful, but the extra Cast Damage and reduced Cast Cooldown make Goblin particularly good for magic-focused characters.
And since Goblin is only an Uncommon race, you don’t have to chase one of the extremely rare races just to get a solid build going.
The only thing holding it back from S Tier is that there are races with even stronger overall abilities.
Goblin: A Tier.
Skeleton – C Tier
Skeleton is unfortunately one of the weaker options.
Its bonuses are:
- -10% Resistance
- +10% Speed
- +10% Summon Damage
The extra Speed is definitely nice, but the Summon Damage bonus is fairly specific.
If you’re building around summons, it can help, but there are better choices for a summoner build. On top of that, losing 10% Resistance isn’t exactly something I would want for a general-purpose character.
Because of that, Skeleton lands in C Tier.
Hiveling – C Tier
Hiveling has a pretty strange set of bonuses.
It gets:
- +10% Resistance at night
- -10% Resistance during the day
- -10% Attack Speed
- +10% Damage
The nighttime Resistance bonus can be useful because a lot of grinding takes place at night, when mobs spawn.
The problem is that you’re also dealing with reduced Attack Speed, while the Resistance bonus disappears during the day and actually turns into a penalty.
The +10% Damage is nice, but I don’t think it makes up for the other drawbacks.
For me, Hiveling sits alongside Skeleton in C Tier.
Rat – B Tier
Rat has a simple but interesting defensive ability.
Every hit you take has a 5% chance to pass straight through you, meaning that attack deals no damage.
On average, that’s roughly one avoided hit every 20 attacks.
That doesn’t sound amazing on paper, and I wouldn’t build an entire character around it. However, there’s one big advantage: it’s a racial ability, so you don’t have to sacrifice an accessory slot to get the effect.
It’s basically free extra survivability.
There are definitely stronger races available, but Rat is still useful enough to earn B Tier.
Mushling – B Tier
Mushling was actually changed after the original tier list was recorded, so its current ranking needs a small adjustment.
Originally, its bonuses were:
- +10% Regeneration
- +10% Healing
- +10% Stamina Regeneration
Those are useful defensive and sustain bonuses, but they weren’t enough to make Mushling stand out compared to the stronger races.
However, Mushling later received a Decompose skill, which gives the race a little more utility than it had originally.
I still wouldn’t put it among the best races in the game, but that extra skill makes Mushling more worthwhile than before.
For the updated version, I’d place it at B Tier.
Whale Born – S Tier
Now we get to the race that completely deserves its legendary status.
Whale Born is the only Legendary race, and it’s also the rarest race in the game.
More importantly, its abilities are extremely strong.
One of its abilities is Dusk Weaver, which changes how your Weave stacks work.
Normally, Weave can reach five stacks, with each stack providing a 5% universal Damage and Speed boost.
Whale Born changes this to four maximum stacks, but each stack provides 7.5% universal Damage and Speed.
That means you reach your maximum stacks faster while also getting a larger overall bonus.
With four stacks, you’re getting a total 30% boost, compared to the normal 25% from five stacks.
That’s already extremely powerful.
But Whale Born has another ability that becomes available at night. It comes with a 10% Insanity drawback, but the additional nighttime ability is powerful enough to make the downside feel relatively minor.
The important thing here is that this ranking isn’t based on Whale Born being difficult to obtain. If I were only judging rarity, the result would be obvious.
I’m ranking it because its actual abilities are incredibly strong.
Whale Born is easily S Tier.
Gem Head – A Tier
Gem Head is the race you should be looking at if you’re interested in a summoner build.
Its main bonuses are:
- +10% Summon Damage
- +15% Summon Life
Unlike Skeleton, which only gives a smaller Summon Damage bonus alongside unrelated stats and a Resistance penalty, Gem Head is much more focused on helping summons.
If you’re building around summoned units, this is arguably the best race you can get for that playstyle.
Because summoning is a legitimate build option and Gem Head directly supports it, I’m putting this one in A Tier.
Oolite – A Tier
Oolite is basically a walking rock, and its stats definitely reflect that.
Its original passive bonuses include:
- +10% Resistance
- +10% Stun Resistance
- +15% Knockback
- -10% Speed
The biggest drawback is obviously the reduced Speed.
You’re slower, but in exchange you’re tougher and harder to disable. The extra Knockback also makes your attacks more disruptive.
This makes Oolite much more suited to a tanky, powerful, slower build rather than something that relies on mobility.
There was also an update to Oolite after the original tier list was recorded. It gained an active ability that puts you into a stone-like form, making you slower while granting 15% Resistance. Afterward, you suffer reduced regeneration and stamina regeneration for 15 seconds.
That drawback isn’t insignificant, but it also doesn’t completely ruin the ability.
With the changes, I’d still keep Oolite in A Tier, although I’d place it more toward the middle of the tier rather than at the very top.
If someone manages to build around its defensive strengths properly, Oolite could be extremely effective.
Underling – A Tier
Underling is another very strong option, especially if you’re using magic.
Its bonuses include:
- +25% Fire Resistance
- +10% Regeneration
- +15% Cast Damage
The Cast Damage bonus is particularly important for magic users. Weapons and abilities that use magic, such as wands and staffs, benefit from increased Cast Damage.
Underling actually gives more Cast Damage than Goblin, although Goblin has the advantage of also providing Cast Cooldown reduction and Luck.
So the two races have different strengths.
Goblin gives you a combination of Luck, Cast Damage, and faster casting, while Underling gives you stronger Cast Damage alongside Regeneration and Fire Resistance.
For me, Underling edges ahead because of the additional defensive bonuses.
Underling gets A Tier, slightly above Goblin.
What Is the Best Race in The Veil?
If we’re looking purely at overall strength, Whale Born is the clear winner.
Its Weave changes alone give it an extremely strong Damage and Speed advantage, and its additional nighttime ability makes it even more powerful.
For more accessible options, Goblin is a fantastic choice for magic builds, while Gem Head is the obvious pick for summoners.
If you want a tankier character, Oolite is worth considering, while Underling gives you a nice mixture of magic damage and defensive bonuses.
And if you haven’t managed to reroll anything yet, don’t worry too much. Human is perfectly usable while you’re working toward something better.
Final Race Rankings
Here is the final ranking from the tier list:
S Tier
- Whale Born
A Tier
- Underling
- Goblin
- Gem Head
- Oolite
B Tier
- Human
- Rat
- Mushling
C Tier
- Skeleton
- Hiveling
Keep in mind that these rankings are based on the strength and usefulness of the racial abilities, not how rare each race is.
The best race for you can also change depending on your build. A summoner will get much more value from Gem Head than someone who doesn’t use summons, for example.
For general power, though, Whale Born is the race I’d be chasing.
