Shards of Solitude is a psychological horror game that doesn’t just rely on jump scares. Much of the experience revolves around uncovering the story behind Miyuki, exploring the mysterious environment, and making choices that ultimately determine which ending you’ll receive.
At first glance, it may seem like there are only a couple of possible outcomes, but the game actually contains seven different endings. Some are available during a normal playthrough, while others require Hard Difficulty and additional steps. There’s even a hidden ending that many players unlock completely by accident.
If you’re trying to see every outcome, earn all achievements, or simply understand the complete story, this guide covers every ending and the exact requirements needed to unlock them.
Shards of Solitude Walkthrough & Endings Guide
There are a total of seven endings in the game:
Standard Difficulty Endings
- Together. Forever.
- Despair
- Reconciliation
Hard Difficulty Endings
- You Belong To Me
- Liberation
- No Escape
Secret Ending
- Resignation to Fate
Most endings are tied to either escaping through the main door or completing the ritual involving Miyuki.
Together. Forever Ending
This is usually one of the first endings players encounter.
How to Unlock
- Progress through the game until you open the padlocked door.
- After opening it, obtain the key found nearby.
- Miyuki will appear and confront you.
- A choice will be presented.
- Select Escape.
- Use the key on the exit door.
What Happens
Choosing to leave results in the Together. Forever ending.
At first, this appears to be the obvious escape route, but like many horror games, things are not always as simple as they seem.
Despair Ending
The Despair ending follows almost the exact same path as the previous ending.
How to Unlock
- Reach the point where Miyuki appears after obtaining the key.
- When presented with the choice, select Give Up instead of Escape.
What Happens
Rather than fighting for freedom, your character abandons hope and accepts their fate.
This ending provides an alternate outcome that reveals a darker side of the game’s narrative.
Reconciliation Ending
This is one of the more involved endings and requires additional exploration.
Instead of focusing on escaping, you’ll need to learn more about Miyuki’s past and perform a ritual.
Step 1: Find Miyuki’s Information
Before beginning the ritual, locate two important notes hidden throughout the game.
These notes reveal:
- Miyuki’s real name
- The date of her death
Without this information, you won’t be able to complete the ending route properly.
Step 2: Complete the Ritual
After collecting the notes:
- Locate the ritual altar.
- Insert all three ritual slabs.
- Begin the ritual sequence.
Step 3: Complete the Challenges
The ritual triggers two separate challenges.
First Challenge
Follow Miyuki’s voice.
The correct path is determined by listening carefully to the audio cues. If you’re unsure where to go, stop moving and focus on the direction of her voice.
Second Challenge
You’ll encounter multiple doors.
Choose the door containing the bloody table.
Selecting the wrong option will force you to repeat the sequence.
Step 4: Lure Miyuki
After completing both challenges, lure Miyuki into the designated area.
Doing so triggers the Reconciliation ending.
Why This Ending Matters
Many players consider Reconciliation to be one of the most story-focused endings because it reveals more information about Miyuki and the events surrounding her death.
Hard Difficulty Endings
The next three endings can only be unlocked on Hard Difficulty.
If you’re playing on Normal or Prologue difficulty, these outcomes won’t trigger.
Before attempting them, make sure you’ve started a new run on Hard mode.
You Belong To Me Ending
This ending begins similarly to Together. Forever but diverges once Hard Difficulty conditions are met.
How to Unlock
- Start a Hard Difficulty playthrough.
- Progress until you obtain the key.
- Choose Escape.
- Use the exit door.
What Happens
Instead of receiving the standard escape ending, a different sequence plays out.
The game reveals that escaping isn’t as straightforward as it initially seemed.
Without spoiling the entire scene, expect a much darker conclusion.
Liberation Ending
Liberation is arguably the most challenging ending in the game.
Not because the requirements are difficult, but because the final sequence becomes significantly more dangerous.
Step 1: Perform the Ritual
Follow the exact same process used for the Reconciliation ending:
- Find Miyuki’s information.
- Insert the three slabs.
- Complete both ritual challenges.
- Lure Miyuki.
Step 2: Receive Mercy
Unlike the standard ending route, Miyuki survives.
Instead of dying, she decides to let you leave.
Step 3: Offer Another Item
This is the critical step many players miss.
After receiving freedom, offer her another item.
Doing so completely changes the ending path.
Step 4: Survive the Red Realm
You’ll be transported to a red version of the map.
This section can be stressful because:
- Miyuki constantly pursues you.
- The environment becomes hostile.
- You must locate and destroy red orbs.
Fortunately, the game includes an autosave system.
If you’re about to die, returning to the main menu can help preserve progress.
Tips for the Red Realm
- Keep moving at all times.
- Don’t fight Miyuki directly.
- Prioritize orb locations.
- Learn the layout before taking risks.
- Avoid dead ends whenever possible.
Successfully clearing the red realm unlocks the Liberation ending.
No Escape Ending
No Escape shares several steps with Liberation but ends differently.
How to Unlock
- Start a Hard Difficulty run.
- Complete the ritual.
- Find Miyuki’s true name and death date.
- Complete both ritual challenges.
- Lure Miyuki.
- Accept her offer to leave.
Instead of triggering Liberation’s alternate route, continue toward the exit.
What Happens
After reaching the door, the story takes another unexpected turn.
As the title suggests, freedom may not be as attainable as it originally appeared.
This ending serves as one of the bleakest conclusions available in the game.
Secret Ending: Resignation to Fate
The final ending is also the easiest one to unlock.
Ironically, many players discover it by doing absolutely nothing.
How to Unlock
- Start a new game.
- Remain inside the starting room.
- Do not progress.
- Wait approximately 5 to 10 minutes.
Eventually, the hidden ending will trigger automatically.
Why It’s Secret
Most players naturally begin exploring immediately.
Because the requirement involves remaining inactive, many never realize the ending exists until they start hunting achievements.
Despite being simple to unlock, it’s one of the most memorable hidden outcomes in the game.
While Shards of Solitude is a relatively short horror experience, its multiple endings encourage several playthroughs and reveal different pieces of Miyuki’s story. Some endings focus on escape, others focus on understanding the truth, and a few leave players questioning whether freedom was ever possible in the first place.
If you’re aiming for full completion, don’t forget to tackle the Hard Difficulty endings after finishing the standard routes. And before you close the game for good, spend a few minutes sitting in the starting room—you might discover the strangest ending of them all.
