If you’re trying to fill out your Round Table in Sovereign Tower, you’ll quickly notice that recruiting Knights isn’t as simple as waiting for everyone to show up.
Some characters join automatically during the story, while others depend on specific choices, quest outcomes, tournament results, faction decisions, or even having another Knight die first. A few can also be recruited much later than you’d expect.
This guide breaks down the current recruitment requirements for the Knights, followed by the known transformations you can unlock for them.
Sovereign Tower Knight Recruitment Guide – How to Recruit
There are some spoilers here, especially for character recruitment and quest outcomes, so I’d recommend using this as a reference if you’re stuck rather than reading the entire thing before playing.
Act I Knights
The first act is where you’ll pick up most of your early Round Table members. Some are automatic, while others require you to make very specific choices.
Angelica
Requirement: None.
Angelica is one of your starting Knights, so there’s nothing special you need to do to recruit her.
Goberto
Requirement: None.
Goberto appears automatically on Day 2.
Just continue playing normally and he should become available.
Gwendan
Requirement: None.
Gwendan arrives on Day 3.
There’s no special recruitment choice required.
Ursula
Requirement: None.
Ursula appears on Day 5.
Like the other early Knights, she joins as part of normal progression.
Dulahan
Requirement: Goberto must be dead.
This one is much more unusual.
Dulahan can appear when Goberto is dead, and this recruitment condition can happen in any act.
So if you’re trying to recruit everyone in a single playthrough, be aware that some recruitment routes can depend on whether another Knight survives.
Chester
Chester’s recruitment is more complicated because his arrival depends on how you handle his early quests.
First, accept Chester’s first quest and send Angelica.
Then accept his second quest.
When Chester gives you the second quest, pay attention to how he describes the eggs:
- Shiny — Send Gwendan.
- Delicious Aroma — Send any Knight with a mount.
- Smells Bad — Send any Knight with cheese.
After completing the second quest, you’ll meet Chester again.
There’s one important detail here: don’t choose “You’re Welcome.”
That final dialogue choice is part of the recruitment route.
Grovershire and Gavault Recruitment
Some of the Act I recruitment paths depend on the choices you make during the Grovershire and Gavault storylines.
You can generally choose to side with:
- Arnold for Grovershire
- Damian for Gavault
There are also secret third options that can affect your recruitment possibilities.
For the Grovershire side, you can potentially recruit Rufus, The Wolf, or Silgur.
For Gavault, the relevant Knights are Brunhilda and Tarcus.
The Wolf
Requirement: Choose to kill the beast and send Angelica.
During the relevant Grovershire storyline, choose the option to kill the beast.
Then send Angelica.
That combination leads to The Wolf’s recruitment.
Rufus
Requirement: Choose to break the beast’s curse.
Instead of killing the beast, choose the option to break its curse.
This leads toward Rufus.
Silgur
Requirement: Choose to kill the beast but don’t send Angelica.
This is a small but important difference from The Wolf’s route.
Choose to kill the beast, but don’t send Angelica.
That gives you the route for Silgur.
Brunhilda
There are a couple of ways to recruit Brunhilda.
The first involves investigating the people and taverns during her storyline and not helping her arrest her mother.
There’s also another route where you can invite her at the beginning of the questline after completing the quest and travelling back in time.
Tarcus
Requirement: Investigate the nobles.
During the Gavault storyline, choose to investigate the nobles.
This puts you on Tarcus’ recruitment route.
Act II Knight Recruitment
Act II introduces several more Knights, and some of these recruitment conditions are considerably less obvious than the early-game ones.
Arron
Requirement: Beat the Dragon Knight.
You’ll need to defeat the Dragon Knight to recruit Arron.
This is also relevant to Arron’s later transformation paths, so don’t forget about this character if you’re working toward his complete progression.
Gideon
Requirement: None.
Gideon doesn’t have a complicated recruitment requirement.
He can be recruited through the map after going back in time, and the recruitment can be done at any point once that option becomes available.
Alwena
Requirement: Have all of your current Knights away from the tower.
This is one of those recruitment requirements that sounds strange until you know about it.
You need to have all of your Knights away from the tower.
For example, if you currently have three Knights, send all three on quests for two cycles so that the following day the tower has no Knights inside.
That’s when Alwena can appear.
There’s one catch: Alwena can only go on quests for one cycle herself. Horses and similar mechanics can help work around that limitation.
Ligia
Requirement: Save her father.
Complete the relevant quest and make sure you save Ligia’s father.
Doing so opens her recruitment route.
Childeric
Requirement: Win the Almor tournament.
You need to win the Almor tournament, but there’s an important restriction:
Do not send Goberto.
If you win the tournament without Goberto participating, you can recruit Childeric.
Zolta
There are two reported ways to recruit Zolta:
- Cheat in the tournament with Tarcus
- Win the tournament using The Wolf
The second method is less certain, so if you’re following a reliable route, the Tarcus method is the safer one to plan around.
Recruiting Zolta also costs 250 Gold.
Act III Knight Recruitment
The later acts introduce some of the more unusual recruitment requirements, including choices involving prisons, investigations and even New Game+.
Epicrate
Requirement: Win his trial or break him out of prison.
You have two routes available:
- Win Epicrate’s trial.
- Break Epicrate out of prison.
Either approach can lead to his recruitment.
Edith
Requirement: Choose the second option when the Moonvale emissary first arrives.
When the Moonvale emissary appears for the first time, select the second dialogue option.
Edith can also be recruited later through the map after travelling back in time.
Daguez
Daguez has a somewhat unusual recruitment condition.
One reported route involves having a low People score, around 7, and then reaching Day 26, when you receive the option to knight someone.
Daguez then appears the following day.
There are also reports that other low faction scores can trigger the opportunity, although the reported experience suggests that a low Noble score doesn’t necessarily work the same way.
Because this route can depend on your current run’s faction values, keep an eye on your scores if you’re specifically hunting for Daguez.
Gothild
There are two known routes:
New Game+ route: Kill Victoria through the Assassination Sponsor quest.
Normal route: Defeat Victoria in a duel before finishing the murder investigation in the Yohav questline.
So if you’re playing a first run and want Gothild, the duel route is the one to pay attention to.
Victoria
Requirement: Complete the series of quests she gives you.
Once Victoria begins giving you quests, work through her quest chain completely.
Completing the sequence leads to her recruitment.
Ari
When the brothers first arrive, choose the bottom option.
Afterward, invite Ari through the map.
That completes his recruitment route.
Sovereign Tower Knight Transformations
Recruiting a Knight is only part of the character system.
Several Knights can also undergo special transformations, which can change their appearance, abilities or overall role.
These are generally tied to very specific events, so some are easy to miss.
Buff Goberto
Requirement: Send Goberto to the final round of the Almor tournament and don’t kill the dragon in the previous round.
This one is tied directly to the Almor tournament.
Send Goberto to the final round and make sure the dragon survives the previous round.
Do both, and you’ll unlock Goberto’s buffed transformation.
Likeable Gwendan
Requirement: When Gwendan’s debt is brought up, make him leave the Round Table to pay it off.
This transformation is tied to Gwendan’s debt storyline.
Once Gwendan’s debt becomes an issue, choose the option that makes him leave the Round Table to pay it off.
There’s an important timing detail here: the debt collector appears once Gwendan’s Affinity gets high enough.
So if you’re specifically trying to unlock this transformation, raising Gwendan’s Affinity quickly can help you reach the event sooner.
Zombie Ursula
Requirement: Let Ursula die.
Yes, unfortunately.
To trigger Ursula’s transformation, you need to let her die.
The complete transformation requires her to die three times, so this isn’t something you’ll unlock from a single unfortunate quest.
It’s a particularly strange transformation route, but then again, Sovereign Tower clearly isn’t afraid of making its character progression weird.
Human Dulahan
Requirement: Make Dulahan fight the political prisoners in the Almor tournament.
During the Almor tournament, send Dulahan to fight the political prisoners.
This unlocks the Human Dulahan transformation.
New Helmet Dulahan
Requirement: Have someone other than Dulahan fight the political prisoners.
This is essentially the alternate route.
Instead of sending Dulahan, have another Knight fight the political prisoners during the Almor tournament.
That leads to Dulahan’s new helmet transformation.
The Wolf to Rufus
Requirement: Have the Witch.
Once you have the Witch, the option related to The Wolf becoming Rufus should eventually become available.
This transformation is tied to the Witch rather than a simple quest completion requirement, so you may need to continue progressing before the option appears.
Silgur
The reported requirement for Silgur’s transformation is to give him a Dragon Heart.
This route is less thoroughly confirmed than some of the others, so if you’re attempting it, keep in mind that the exact trigger may depend on additional progression.
Edgy Arron
Requirement: Give Arron a Dragon Heart.
Arron’s edgy transformation is triggered by giving him a Dragon Heart.
This is separate from his dragon-related babysitter route, so don’t confuse the two.
Babysitter Arron
Requirement: Have enough Kindness during the Moonvale questline and send Arron on the solo-Knight mission.
During the Moonvale storyline, make sure your Kindness level is high enough.
When the solo-Knight mission becomes available, send Arron.
This leads to the babysitter version of Arron.
It’s also connected to the baby dragon storyline, so it’s worth planning this route ahead of time if you’re trying to collect Arron’s different outcomes.
Changed Edith
Requirement: Make Edith kill.
Edith’s transformation is tied to her taking a life.
When given the relevant opportunity, allow Edith to kill.
That triggers her changed version.
If you’re trying to collect every Knight and every transformation, I’d strongly recommend thinking about your choices before committing to them.
Several recruitment paths are mutually dependent on specific story decisions. For example, the Grovershire/Gavault routes can determine which characters become available, while some tournament outcomes can affect both recruitment and transformations.
The Almor tournament deserves particular attention because several character outcomes are tied to it. Goberto, Childeric and Dulahan all have important interactions there.
Also keep an eye on Dragon Hearts. They can be involved in different character transformations, particularly Arron and potentially Silgur, so don’t use one without considering whether you’re working toward a specific transformation.
And finally, don’t assume that a Knight’s transformation is always an upgrade you should pursue immediately. Some require deliberately bad or unusual outcomes, such as allowing Ursula to die.
If you’re going for a completionist run, it may be worth keeping a separate save before major character decisions. That way you can experiment with the stranger recruitment and transformation routes without permanently locking yourself out of another outcome.
