If you’re going for full completion in Lay of the Land, the good news is that the achievement list is actually pretty relaxed compared to most survival crafting games.
No brutal permadeath achievements.
No speedrun requirements.
No “beat the game naked with a spoon” nonsense.
Most achievements come naturally while exploring, crafting, and progressing through bosses. Still, a few mechanics are easy to overlook, especially the spell system, food buffs, and some crafting chains involving molds and sigils.
This guide walks through every achievement, the easiest way to unlock them, and a few tips that make progression smoother along the way.
And thankfully:
Lay of the Land 100% Achievement Guide
You can return and clean up anything later.
That alone already makes the completion journey way less stressful.
Beginner Achievements
These are the first achievements most players unlock naturally while learning the game systems.
Ow
How to Unlock
Punch a wooden log without using a tool.
Walk up to a tree or log and smack it with your bare hands.
Simple achievement, but it also feels like the game’s way of welcoming you to survival crafting pain.
First Steps
How to Unlock
Craft a Flint tool or weapon.
To craft items in Lay of the Land:
- drop required materials on the ground
- arrange them correctly
- craft the item
You’ll probably unlock this within your first few minutes.
Breaking Ground
How to Unlock
Mine voxels using a tool or weapon.
Craft:
- a hammer
or - a shovel
Then mine any resource block.
This also introduces the voxel building and terrain system, which honestly becomes one of the game’s most addictive features later on.
Bit by Bit
How to Unlock
Build using voxels.
Place down:
- wood
- dirt
- stone
or any voxel resource.
Even a single placed block counts.
Early Crafting Achievements
This is where the game starts opening up its progression systems.
Now We’re Cooking
How to Unlock
Craft a Basic Smeltery.
Like other crafting structures:
- drop the required materials
- assemble the build
- craft it
The Smeltery becomes extremely important for weapon progression later.
Rock Solid
How to Unlock
Mine Copper Ore.
You can usually find nearby caves in the first region.
Bring:
- a Hammer
Mine a Copper Ore node and the achievement unlocks immediately.
Hot Stuff
How to Unlock
Cast a metal item using the Smeltery.
This one confuses a lot of players initially because the process has several steps.
How Smelting Works
Step 1
Add:
- wood underneath the Smeltery for fuel
Step 2
Place ore on top to melt it.
Step 3
Place a mold into the left side.
Step 4
Craft the metal item.
How to Make Molds
To craft molds:
- Gather clay near water
- Fire clay inside a Kiln
- Create Terracotta
- Craft the mold you need
It sounds complicated at first, but after the first setup it becomes pretty straightforward.
Magic and Spell Achievements
One thing I really liked about Lay of the Land is that the magic system feels naturally integrated into exploration instead of just becoming another crafting tree.
Extra Credit
How to Unlock
Learn a spell.
You’ll find:
- Magic Runes
inside treasure chests around different regions.
Once found:
- place the rune in your hotbar
- use it permanently
Exploration matters a lot for this achievement.
You’re a Wizard
How to Unlock
Craft a Basic Wand.
You’ll need:
- a Mana Crystal
These are also found inside exploration chests.
If you’re thoroughly looting structures and caves, you’ll eventually find one naturally.
Spooky
How to Unlock
Craft a Sigil.
Sigil Pieces are found inside chests throughout the world.
Once assembled, you can craft a Sigil needed for boss summons.
This is basically the point where the game transitions from survival sandbox into proper boss progression.
Weapon Upgrade Achievements
Shiny!
How to Unlock
Upgrade a melee weapon.
Use:
- an anvil
- one weapon
- one augment
Then hammer the weapon on the anvil to combine them.
The upgrade system is surprisingly satisfying once you start stacking modifiers.
Diamonds Are Forever
How to Unlock
Fully upgrade a melee weapon with 4 modifier slots.
This is basically the advanced version of Shiny!.
You’ll need:
- a weapon
- four modifiers or augments
- an upgraded anvil setup
Once all four slots are filled, the achievement unlocks.
Boss Achievements
The boss progression in Lay of the Land follows biome progression pretty naturally.
Each boss requires:
- the appropriate Sigil
- locating the Summoning Arena
- preparation for the biome hazards
Rocked and Rolled
Boss
Stone Golem
Region
Starting Region
This is the first boss most players fight.
Craft:
- Stone Sigil
Then activate the arena.
Compared to later bosses, this one mainly teaches timing and spacing.
Level Up!
How to Unlock
Upgrade maximum Health and Mana.
Bosses drop:
- red Hearts
Place the Heart in your hotbar and use it permanently.
You’ll naturally unlock this after your first major boss kill.
Wizardry²
How to Unlock
Upgrade a Wand.
Bosses drop materials required for higher-tier wand upgrades.
Once you collect the required upgrade component:
- craft the stronger wand version
Silence at Last
Boss
Banshee
Region
Desert / Canyon
You’ll need:
- Sand Sigil
The Banshee fight feels noticeably harder than the Stone Golem because mobility becomes much more important.
Truffle Trouble
Boss
Deathcap
Region
Mushroom Swamp
Requires:
- Mycelium Sigil
Honestly one of the coolest biome designs in the game.
The swamp atmosphere is surprisingly creepy at night.
Chill Out
Boss
Glacial Colossus
Region
Ice / Snow Mountains
Requires:
- Ice Sigil
Cold management becomes important here, so bring enough supplies before the climb.
A Land Set Free
Boss
Molten Cataclysm
Region
Volcano
This is the final boss of the game.
The Glacial Colossus drops the Sigil needed for this fight.
The volcano area feels like a proper endgame zone:
- dangerous terrain
- constant pressure
- heavier enemy density
Definitely prepare before entering.
Miscellaneous Achievements
These are easy to miss simply because players don’t always experiment enough.
Unlimited Power
How to Unlock
Have every food status effect active simultaneously.
Eat these seven foods back-to-back:
- Red Mushroom
- Toadstool Mushroom
- Cooked Carrot
- Cooked Eggplant
- Cooked Tomato
- Cooked Fatty Meat
- Cooked Lean Meat
Cooking them helps because the buffs last longer.
This achievement is much easier if you prepare all foods beforehand instead of hunting ingredients mid-attempt.
I Don’t Like Sand…
How to Unlock
Die from falling sand.
Find:
- a beach
or - large sand area
Dig downward and allow the collapsing sand to crush you.
Honestly one of the funniest achievements in the game.
Certified Organic
How to Unlock
Harvest a fully grown crop.
Plant:
- carrot
- eggplant
or - tomato seeds
Crops take roughly:
- 3 in-game days
to fully mature.
If you start farming early, this achievement comes naturally while progressing other content.
Best Tips for 100% Completion
After finishing the achievement list, these are the biggest things I’d recommend.
Loot Every Chest
Chests contain:
- runes
- Mana Crystals
- Sigil Pieces
Ignoring exploration slows progression massively.
Start Farming Early
Even a tiny crop setup helps later.
Waiting until endgame for farming achievements just wastes time.
Keep Boss Materials
Several later upgrades require items dropped from earlier bosses.
Don’t throw rare materials away thinking they’re useless.
Upgrade Weapons Regularly
The difficulty jump between biomes becomes very noticeable if you fall behind on weapon upgrades.
Especially before:
- Deathcap
- Glacial Colossus
- Molten Cataclysm
