The Forge Abyss Guide – Floors, Cards, Rewards, Medallions

The Abyss is a permanent game mode in The Forge where you can challenge an endless series of increasingly difficult floors. Unlike a weekly event, this mode is always available, so you don’t have to worry about missing its rewards. You can enter alone or team up with up to two friends as you try to climb as high as possible.

One of the most important parts of the Abyss is choosing the right cards. After completing each floor, you get to pick a card that provides useful bonuses, such as increased damage, extra health, critical chance, or movement speed. These upgrades become increasingly important as the enemies get stronger.

In this guide, I’ll explain how the Abyss works, how its floor checkpoints operate, and every card you can obtain during a run. I’ll also cover Abyss Shards, Medallion crafting recipes, their special properties, and the weapon recipes you can unlock by reaching specific floors.

The Forge Abyss Guide – Floors, Cards, Rewards, Medallions

The Abyss is an endless raid-style game mode where you fight through floors filled with increasingly difficult enemies. You can play solo or with a team of up to three players.

Here is a quick overview:

Feature Details
Game Mode Permanent
Floors Infinite
Players 1–3
Card Selection After every floor
Boss Floors Every 10 floors
Checkpoints Every 10 floors after defeating the boss
Main Rewards Abyss Shards, Medallions, and weapon recipe shards

Each floor becomes harder than the previous one. The enemies on higher floors are much stronger, and the deepest floors are extremely difficult for regular players to complete.

How Card Selection Works

After completing a floor, the Wizard’s Magic allows you to choose one card from the available options. These cards provide different bonuses that improve your character during the run.

You should choose cards based on your build and the enemies you’re facing. For example, damage cards help you defeat enemies faster, while health and defensive cards make surviving difficult encounters easier.

Every card also has a maximum stack limit. This determines how many copies of that card you can collect during a single run.

Boss Floors and Checkpoints

A boss appears every 10 floors. Defeating the boss allows you to save your progress at the checkpoint.

Once you have saved at a checkpoint, you can start your next run from that floor instead of beginning again from the first floor.

You can also leave the Abyss whenever you want. After completing a floor, the leave option appears in the bottom-right corner below the card selection.

Leaving works the same way as dying: you keep the rewards you have already collected and can continue from your latest saved checkpoint.

All Normal Abyss Cards

Normal cards provide useful bonuses without adding negative effects. They are divided into three rarities: Common, Rare, and Epic.

Here is the complete list of normal Abyss cards and their effects.

Rarity Card Effect Max Stack
Common Sharpened +10% Damage 5
Common Hardy +10% Max Health 5
Common Swift +8% Movement Speed 3
Common Keen Eye +5% Critical Chance 4
Common Guarded Take 6% less damage 4
Rare Brutal +20% Damage 3
Rare Frenzy +15% Attack Speed 3
Rare Vital Core +20% Max Health 3
Rare Mending +30% Healing 2
Rare Glide +25% Dash Distance 2
Epic Executioner +35% Critical Damage 2
Epic Titan +15% Damage and +15% Max Health 2
Epic Bulwark Take 15% less damage 2

Best Normal Cards to Pick

Damage cards such as Sharpened and Brutal are useful if you want to defeat enemies faster. Hardy and Vital Core are good choices if you need more health to survive stronger enemies.

If your build relies on critical hits, Keen Eye and Executioner can work well together. Meanwhile, Frenzy is useful for builds that benefit from faster attacks.

All Cursed Abyss Cards

Cursed cards offer powerful bonuses but also come with negative effects. These cards can make your run much easier if your build can handle their penalties, but choosing the wrong one can put you in danger.

There are three Cursed cards available:

Card Bonus Penalty Max Stack
Glass Cannon +50% Damage -25% Max Health 1
Greed Floor rewards x2 Enemies are 30% stronger 2
Bloodlust +30% Attack Speed Take 15% more damage 1

Should You Pick Cursed Cards?

Glass Cannon is a strong option for damage-focused builds, but losing 25% of your maximum health makes you more vulnerable.

Greed doubles your floor rewards, which can help you collect more resources. However, enemies become 30% stronger, so you should only choose it if you can handle the increased difficulty.

Bloodlust increases attack speed by 30%, making it useful for builds that rely on fast attacks. The downside is that you take 15% more damage.

All Fusion Abyss Cards

Fusion cards combine two normal cards into one stronger card. They don’t appear in the regular card selection pool, so you need to collect their required ingredient cards first.

Fusion Card Rules

Keep these rules in mind when collecting Fusion cards:

  • Fusion cards never appear in the normal card roll pool.
  • If you own both required ingredient cards, the Fusion card has a 35% chance of appearing in your offer.
  • After a boss floor, a qualifying Fusion card is guaranteed to appear.
  • Choosing a Fusion card consumes one copy of each ingredient card.
  • You can hold a maximum of one copy of each Fusion card.

Complete Fusion Card List

Fusion Card Required Cards Combined Effect Max Stack
Butcher Sharpened + Brutal +45% Damage 1
Ironheart Hardy + Vital Core +45% Max Health 1
Phantom Step Swift + Glide +15% Movement Speed and +40% Dash Distance 1
Deadeye Keen Eye + Executioner +10% Critical Chance and +60% Critical Damage 1
Bastion Guarded + Bulwark Take 28% less damage 1
Second Wind Frenzy + Mending +25% Attack Speed and +45% Healing 1

Best Fusion Cards

Butcher is a good choice if you want to focus on increasing your damage. Ironheart is useful for builds that need additional health, while Deadeye is particularly helpful for critical-hit builds.

Bastion provides strong damage reduction, making it a useful defensive option for surviving difficult floors. Phantom Step improves both movement speed and dash distance, while Second Wind combines attack speed and healing bonuses.

Abyss Rewards

The main rewards you can earn from the Abyss include:

  • Abyss Shards
  • Abyss Medallions
  • Weapon recipe shards

Abyss Shards are particularly important because you can use them to craft Medallions. These Medallions improve your chances of successfully enhancing weapons and armor.

All Abyss Medallions and Crafting Recipes

You can craft Abyss Medallions by visiting the Crafter NPC. Each higher-tier Medallion requires two copies of the previous tier and a specific type of Essence.

Higher-tier Medallions provide better enhancing chances and can also come with special properties.

Medallion Enhancing Chance Property Crafting Recipe
Abyss Medallion I +1% None 100 Abyss Shards
Abyss Medallion II +2.5% None 2x Abyss Medallion I + 20 Medium Essence
Abyss Medallion III +6% Random Property 2x Abyss Medallion II + 20 Large Essence
Abyss Medallion IV +14% Random Property 2x Abyss Medallion III + 20 Greater Essence
Abyss Medallion V +30% Random Property 2x Abyss Medallion IV + 20 Superior Essence

All Medallion Properties

Abyss Medallions III, IV, and V can roll one of four random properties. These modifiers provide additional benefits when enhancing your equipment.

Property Effect
Warding A failed enhancement attempt does not lose a level.
Rune Keeper A failed attempt keeps your rune slot.
Thrifty A failed attempt refunds half the materials.
Focus Doubles the bonus at +7 enhancement and above.

Enhancement Chance Bonus

There is also a bonus system that helps you with repeated failed enhancement attempts.

Every failed enhancement gives that item an additional 2% chance of succeeding on the next attempt. This bonus can stack up to a maximum of 40%.

This means repeated failures gradually improve your chances of successfully enhancing the same item.

All Abyss Weapon Recipes

You can also obtain special weapon recipe shards by reaching specific floors in the Abyss. These shards are required to unlock the corresponding weapon recipes.

Here are all the currently listed Abyss weapon recipes and their floor requirements:

Weapon Recipe Shards Start Dropping Guaranteed By
Guardian Glaive Floor 1 Floor 40
Crescent Spear Floor 30 Floor 60
Devil’s Deed Floor 80 Floor 90

Important: These weapons can only be forged at the Abyss Forge. You cannot craft them at a regular forge.

Final Thoughts

The Abyss is one of the most important permanent activities in The Forge if you want to collect Abyss Shards, craft powerful Medallions, and unlock special weapons. Since the mode has infinite floors, you can keep challenging yourself and improve your rewards as you progress.

Make sure you choose cards that complement your build, especially when deciding between normal, cursed, and Fusion cards. Don’t forget to defeat every tenth-floor boss to save your progress at the checkpoint. This will make it easier to continue your climb without losing your previous progress.
