In this guide, I’ll walk you through the full Slayer 2 progression from the moment you reach the requirements for Final Selection to building a strong Slayer setup. We’ll cover Final Selection, your first breathing style, weapon upgrades, equipment, titles, clans, mastery, and the best way to keep improving your character.
If you are around level 45 and have just become eligible for Final Selection, you do not need a perfect build before starting. I recommend focusing on getting through Final Selection first, then gradually replacing your weaker gear with better weapons and equipment as you farm.
By the end of this guide, you should have a clear progression path to follow instead of randomly farming items. I’ll also explain which breathing styles, weapons, equipment, clans, and stats you should focus on as you move toward a stronger Slayer build.
Slayer 2 Complete Slayer Progression Guide – How to Become
Before you can become a Slayer, you need to meet two basic requirements:
- You must be a Human.
- You must reach at least Level 45.
Once you meet both requirements, you can travel to the Final Selection area.
Final Selection is located toward the bottom-left side of the map. The event begins at the start of each hour, so I recommend reaching the area early rather than arriving at the last second.
You can complete Final Selection with other players, and I strongly recommend doing this if you are entering at exactly Level 45. Some of the fights can be difficult when you have just reached the minimum level, especially the final boss.
Final Selection Complete Quest Guide
Final Selection takes you through several quests involving collecting items, defeating enemies, finding an item, healing an NPC, defeating a stronger enemy, completing a parkour section, traveling between locations, rescuing a civilian, and finally defeating the Hand Demon.
You don’t have to rush through everything. Take your time, especially during the combat sections.
Final Selection Quest 1 – Collect the Fruits
The first NPC you need to find is Rem.
Speak to Rem before doing anything else. She will give you the first quest, which requires you to collect three different fruits.
The fruits are located around the nearby area, so look around the locations shown by the quest.
Collect all three fruits and then return to Rem.
One important thing to remember is that you should speak to Rem before collecting the fruits and then talk to her again after collecting all three. Otherwise, you may not receive credit for the objective.
Final Selection Quest 2 – Defeat Lesser Demons
After completing Rem’s quest, find Veil.
Speak to Veil to start the next objective.
You need to defeat five Lesser Demons. Head toward the nearby enemies and defeat all five.
Once you have defeated them, return to Veil and turn in the quest.
If you are Level 45 and your damage is still low, don’t try to rush through the enemies. Blocking and dodging between attacks can make the fight much safer.
Final Selection Quest 3 – Find the Katana
Next, find Klein and speak to him.
Klein will ask you to find a katana.
The katana is located to the right of Klein’s position. Follow the route from his location and pick up the weapon.
After collecting the katana, return to Klein and speak to him again.
Final Selection Quest 4 – Heal Klein
After speaking with Klein again, you will be directed toward Rica.
Find Rica and purchase one bandage.
The bandage costs 25 Cash, and you only need one for this objective.
Take the bandage back to Klein. You will then need to complete a small healing minigame.
Finish the minigame to complete this part of Final Selection.
Final Selection Quest 5 – Defeat Lost
Your next NPC is Mizuto.
Speak to Mizuto to receive the quest to find and defeat Lost.
Lost has around 790 Health, so this fight can be surprisingly difficult if you have only just reached Level 45.
If you are playing with other people, this is a good time to take advantage of the group.
If you are fighting alone, don’t simply stand in front of Lost and trade attacks. Block and dodge between your attacks and avoid taking unnecessary damage.
After defeating Lost, return to Mizuto.
Final Selection Parkour Course
After completing the Lost objective, you will find a parkour dungeon nearby.
You need to complete this course as part of Final Selection.
The course isn’t necessarily extremely difficult, but some of the jumps can take a few attempts to learn.
Each attempt gives you:
- 6 minutes
- 3 Health
Pay attention to both your timer and your health while moving through the course.
The good thing is that failing an attempt does not end Final Selection for you. You can retry the course as many times as necessary.
I recommend using the first few attempts to learn the route rather than trying to rush through it.
Once you successfully finish the parkour course, speak to Mizuto again.
Final Selection Quest 6 – Reach the Locations
After Mizuto, find Lavato.
Speak to Lavato and accept the next quest.
This objective requires you to reach several different locations before the timer expires.
Follow the objectives shown on your screen and keep moving between the locations.
The quest itself is fairly straightforward. If you already own a horse, this is a good opportunity to use it because the horse makes traveling between objectives much faster.
You don’t need a horse to complete the quest, though.
Final Selection Quest 7 – Capture the Zone and Rescue the Civilian
After reaching the final location, look for Levi nearby.
Speak to Levi to receive the next objective.
You need to complete two tasks:
- Capture a zone.
- Rescue a civilian.
Complete both objectives before moving on.
Once both tasks are finished, you can prepare for the final battle.
Final Selection Final Boss – Hand Demon
The final enemy you need to defeat is the Hand Demon.
This is considerably more difficult than the regular enemies you’ve fought during Final Selection, especially if you are still around Level 45.
If possible, fight the Hand Demon with other players.
During the fight, weaker enemies will also spawn. When they appear, deal with them first instead of completely ignoring them.
After clearing the weaker enemies, return your attention to the Hand Demon.
Keep repeating this process while avoiding the boss’s attacks.
Once the Hand Demon is defeated, you will complete Final Selection and officially become a Slayer.
What You Get After Becoming a Slayer
Completing Final Selection gives you two particularly useful rewards.
The first is a Crude Iron Ingot.
The second is your Crow.
Both are important for your progression.
Craft Your First Slayer Katana
Take your Crude Iron Ingot to Hidden Mist Village.
There, you can use it to craft one of three katanas.
The three options have the same stats, so you can simply choose whichever appearance you prefer.
These weapons are useful around Level 45 and give you a solid starting weapon while you work toward better gear.
You don’t need to spend a huge amount of time worrying about this first katana. Treat it as a stepping stone toward your next weapon.
Use Your Crow for Extra Quests
Your Crow is another important part of Slayer progression.
Using the Crow allows you to receive quests to defeat different enemies.
These quests can reward you with:
- Experience
- Cash
- Mastery progression
I recommend keeping Crow quests active while you farm.
If you’re already planning to fight an enemy for drops or mastery, having a quest for that same enemy lets you make progress toward additional rewards at the same time.
This is one of the easiest ways to make your farming more efficient.
Choose Your First Breathing Style
After becoming a Slayer, your next major goal should be unlocking a strong Breathing style.
The three options highlighted for this progression are:
- Serpent Breathing
- Sound Breathing
- Thunder Breathing
For early progression, I recommend starting with Serpent Breathing because it is relatively affordable and useful for farming.
Once your character becomes stronger, you can work toward Sound or Thunder depending on the build you want.
How to Get Serpent Breathing
The Serpent trainer can be found near the starting area.
Return to the starting spawn, move past the nearby NPCs, and climb the mountain.
Once you reach the top, look around for the Serpent trainer.
The requirements mentioned for Serpent Breathing are:
- Level 25
- 20 Demon Horns
- 5 Beast Cores
Since Final Selection already requires Level 45, the level requirement isn’t something you need to worry about.
The main job is collecting the materials.
How to Get Demon Horns
Travel toward the snowy area to the left of the bear area.
Defeat the demons there to farm Demon Horns.
According to the progression guide, each demon gives two horns, meaning you need to defeat around 10 demons to collect 20 horns.
How to Get Beast Cores
For Beast Cores, use the compass at the top of your screen and travel north toward the villages.
The demons spawning around those areas have a chance to drop Beast Cores.
Keep farming them until you have five.
After collecting the required materials, return to the Serpent trainer and begin the training questline.
Most of the training quests are minigames, with the final quest requiring you to defeat the Serpent trainee.
Complete the questline to unlock Serpent Breathing.
How to Get Sound Breathing
Sound Breathing is another option for your Slayer build.
The Sound trainer is located near the snowy biome.
Travel toward the snow area and follow the route to reach the trainer.
Before farming anything, speak to the trainer and check the required materials.
This is important because you don’t want to waste time collecting random items before knowing exactly what you need.
Once you have the required materials, return to the trainer and complete the training questline.
Finishing the questline unlocks Sound Breathing.
How to Get Thunder Breathing
Thunder Breathing requires a little more movement because the trainer is located around the climbing section.
Start from the village with the bears.
Travel down past the boss spawn and follow the route toward the climbing area.
You need the climbing ability unlocked in your skill tree to reach the trainer.
Make sure you have this unlocked before making the trip.
Once you climb up to the correct area, continue toward the Thunder trainer.
Talk to the trainer to see the material requirements, collect what you need, and then complete the training quests.
After finishing the training questline, you will unlock Thunder Breathing.
Which Breathing Style Should You Get First?
For a new Slayer, I would start with Serpent Breathing because of its relatively accessible requirements and usefulness for farming.
After you have a more developed character, you can work toward Sound Breathing or Thunder Breathing.
You don’t need to unlock every breathing style immediately.
Instead, focus on one style, build your character around it, and use your resources to improve that build.
Slayer Weapon Progression
Once your breathing style is sorted, your weapon should become one of your main progression goals.
Slayers have more weapon freedom than Demon builds that rely heavily on specific weapons.
For your main Slayer Katana, three options highlighted in this progression are:
- Wind Katana
- Sound Katana
- Flame Katana
These three options are described as having the same stats, making the choice largely about which weapon you prefer and which one you want to invest in.
You do not need to collect every weapon just because it exists.
Choose one weapon and focus on upgrading it.
Check Weapon Stats Before Farming
The Archive is extremely useful when planning your progression.
You can open the Archive to check:
- Item stats
- How an item is obtained
- What you need to farm
- How an item compares with your current equipment
Before spending hours farming for a weapon, check the Archive first.
This can save you a lot of time because you can decide whether the item is actually worth replacing your current gear.
Upgrade Your Katana to Tier 2
After getting your preferred Slayer Katana, your next major weapon goal is its second tier.
For this upgrade, you need to play Tower Mode and collect the required points.
You will also need materials such as:
- Metal Scraps
- Mythic Refinement Ore
- Silk Thread
Keep collecting these materials while you progress instead of waiting until the last moment.
How to Get Metal Scraps and Silk Thread
Metal Scraps and Silk Thread can be obtained from World Boss chests.
Whenever you are farming World Bosses, keep these materials in mind because they can contribute toward your future weapon upgrades.
How to Get Mythic Refinement Ore
Mythic Refinement Ore can also be obtained through the exchange at Mistfall Harbor by selling Mythical items you don’t need.
Before farming, check the recipe for your chosen weapon.
This tells you exactly how much of each material you still need.
Best Equipment for Slayer Progression
After your weapon, start building your equipment setup.
You don’t need every endgame item immediately. Use whatever good equipment you already have and gradually replace individual pieces as better drops appear.
A few pieces highlighted for this progression are the Stone Hour Ring, Demonic Lantern, and three face gear items from Tower chests.
Stone Hour Ring
The Stone Hour Ring drops from the Guray boss.
It provides useful offensive stats while also giving Health and Stamina.
That makes it useful for both damage and survivability.
For a developing Slayer, having additional Health and Stamina can be especially useful because you don’t want to sacrifice too much survivability just to increase your damage.
Demonic Lantern
The Demonic Lantern can drop from World Boss chests.
Along with its damage-related stats, the Lantern is useful because it improves visibility at night.
This makes it convenient while traveling around the map and farming in darker areas.
Tower Face Gear
For the remaining equipment slots, the progression uses three face gear items from Tower chests.
Each one provides:
- +2 additional damage
- +55 Health
- +45 Stamina
Using three of them gives a total of:
- +6 additional damage
- +165 Health
- +135 Stamina
That combination gives your Slayer a useful mixture of damage, Health, and Stamina.
However, don’t feel like you need to obtain all three immediately.
Use the best equipment you currently own and replace pieces one at a time.
How to Prioritize Equipment Stats
When comparing equipment, I recommend looking at your offensive stats first.
A simple priority is:
- Flat Damage
- Damage Factor
- Health
- Stamina
Flat damage and Damage Factor are particularly important when your main goal is increasing your damage output.
At the same time, don’t completely ignore Health and Stamina.
If you are constantly dying during farming, adding survivability can be more useful than gaining a small amount of extra damage.
Slayer Titles
Titles are another part of your build that is easy to overlook.
Some titles can provide useful damage bonuses, particularly titles unlocked through dealing damage.
Check your available titles regularly and equip the ones that provide useful stats for your build.
You can equip up to three titles, so make sure you are using all three slots.
Leaving title slots empty means leaving free stats on the table.
Clan Progression
Your clan is another part of your overall build.
If you already have a Supreme or Mythical clan, you can use it while building the rest of your character.
However, you do not need to stop your progression while waiting for one of the rarest clans.
A decent clan is completely fine while you work on your weapons, breathing style, equipment, and mastery.
Kokou and Susamaru
Kokou and Susamaru are also mentioned as useful options that are easier to obtain.
If you don’t have a Supreme or Mythical clan, use a decent clan rather than wasting all your time trying to get the perfect roll.
You can always improve your clan later when you have more opportunities to roll.
Continue Upgrading Your Skill Tree
Your skill tree should be upgraded throughout your entire progression.
Don’t treat it as something you finish once and forget about.
Your unlocked skills affect how your character moves, fights, travels, and reaches certain areas.
For example, climbing is required to reach some trainers, including the Thunder trainer.
Keep checking your skill tree and invest in the abilities that support your current progression.
Mastery Progression
Mastery should also be progressing alongside your other upgrades.
You can gain mastery while fighting enemies, and Crow quests can help you make this process more efficient.
Whenever possible, combine your farming goals.
For example, if you need an enemy’s drops and also need mastery, take a Crow quest for that enemy before you start farming.
This way, one farming session can progress several parts of your build at once.
The Best Way to Progress Efficiently
Once you become a Slayer, don’t try to farm everything at the same time.
I recommend following a simple progression path.
Step 1 – Complete Final Selection
Reach Level 45, enter Final Selection, complete all objectives, and defeat the Hand Demon.
If possible, do it with other players.
Step 2 – Craft Your First Katana
Take the Crude Iron Ingot to Hidden Mist Village and craft one of the available starter katanas.
Use it while you work toward stronger weapons.
Step 3 – Start Using Your Crow
Take Crow quests whenever you’re farming enemies.
This gives you additional Experience, Cash, and Mastery progress.
Step 4 – Unlock Serpent Breathing
Farm the Demon Horns and Beast Cores required for Serpent Breathing.
Complete its training quests and use the breathing style to improve your farming.
Step 5 – Work Toward Sound or Thunder
Once your character is established, begin working toward Sound or Thunder if they fit the playstyle you want.
You don’t need to rush this step.
Step 6 – Choose Your Main Katana
Pick between Wind, Sound, and Flame Katana based on the option you want to use.
Then focus on upgrading that weapon rather than collecting every similar weapon.
Step 7 – Start Tower Farming
Play Tower Mode to collect the points and materials required for your next weapon upgrade.
At the same time, keep an eye out for useful Tower equipment.
Step 8 – Farm World Bosses
World Bosses are useful for obtaining materials such as Metal Scraps and Silk Thread.
They can also provide equipment and other valuable drops.
Step 9 – Improve Your Equipment
Work toward items such as the Stone Hour Ring, Demonic Lantern, and useful Tower face gear.
Replace weaker pieces gradually.
Step 10 – Optimize Your Stats
When you start getting better gear, prioritize:
- Flat Damage
- Damage Factor
- Health
- Stamina
Also remember to equip three useful titles.
Step 11 – Improve Your Clan
Use your current clan while progressing.
If you later get a stronger Mythical or Supreme clan, you can change your build around it.
Step 12 – Keep Working on Mastery and Skills
Don’t stop leveling mastery or upgrading the skill tree.
A strong Slayer build comes from improving several systems together rather than focusing on only one item.
Slayer 2 Demon Progression for Comparison
If you eventually decide to play a Demon instead of a Slayer, the progression is different.
Demon builds have more specific weapon and Blood Demon Art considerations.
In the pre-balance meta covered by the source material, Blood was considered the strongest BDA, with Cryo and Dream also performing well.
For Demon weapons, Sickles and Umbrella were highlighted as the two main choices.
Sickles were considered particularly consistent for PvE, while Umbrella could be more comfortable for certain PvP situations.
For clans, Supreme and Mythical options were emphasized, with Kamado, Rengoku, and Soyama receiving particular attention in the source’s meta discussion.
However, these rankings were based on a pre-balance-patch state, so they should not be treated as permanent.
What Makes a Strong Slayer Build?
A strong Slayer isn’t created by getting one rare item.
Your overall build is made from several systems working together:
- Weapon
- Breathing style
- Equipment
- Titles
- Clan
- Skill tree
- Mastery
- Health
- Stamina
- Damage
- Damage Factor
This is why I recommend upgrading everything together.
Getting a powerful weapon while ignoring your equipment and skill tree will leave your character weaker than it could be.
Don’t Wait for a Perfect Build
One of the biggest mistakes you can make is waiting for the perfect clan or perfect equipment before progressing.
If you already have a usable weapon, use it.
If you have a decent clan, keep it.
If you don’t have your ideal equipment yet, use the strongest pieces available to you.
Then replace individual parts as you get better drops.
This keeps your progression moving instead of forcing you to spend hours farming for one specific item.
Final Slayer 2 Progression Roadmap
For a simple version of the entire guide, follow this path:
Level 45 → Final Selection → Hand Demon → Become Slayer → Crude Iron Ingot → Starter Katana → Crow → Serpent Breathing → Sound/Thunder Breathing → Wind/Sound/Flame Katana → Tier 2 Weapon → Tower Mode → World Bosses → Better Equipment → Titles → Clan → Skill Tree → Mastery → Endgame Build
