Megabonk Pacifist Challenge Guide – Forest Tier 1

The Pacifist Challenge is one of the most brutal early-game trials in Megabonk. The core rule: you are not allowed to use weapons. Every ounce of damage must come from passive effects like thorns, shields, items, or creative maneuvering.

Your goal is to defeat the final stage boss without ever swinging a sword, throwing a kunai, or firing a single shot.

It sounds simple — but this challenge demands:

  • Precise character choice
  • Early momentum (or restart)
  • Smart use of tomes
  • High-value items
  • Constant map movement and kiting skill

If you’re aiming for a no-hit, no-weapon run that still melts the boss, this is the guide for you.

Best Characters for Pacifist (Ranked)

Here’s the honest ranking of which characters can realistically complete the challenge, based on passive damage potential and survivability.

1. Athena

Athena is hands-down the top-tier pick.

  • Starts with innate thorns
  • Gains more damage at lower HP
  • Natural synergy with Shield Tome
  • Can snowball quickly off early enemy collisions
If you’re serious about winning, start with Athena and rush shield scaling.

2. Ninja

Ninja’s kill-on-evasion ability is a wild card.

  • Evade + kill can shred mobs if scaled early
  • Needs regen, shield, or armor support
  • Harder to stabilize early, but strong once rolling

3. Sir Oofie

Good armor, bad offense.

  • Tanky by default, but lacks damage tools
  • Needs lucky tome rolls early to scale
  • Viable but slow; not recommended unless you’re out of options

4. Monke (Experimental Pick)

  • Extreme mobility opens up synergy with Bob’s Ghost
  • Can bunny-hop across the map, triggering passive effects
  • Less tested, but the movement-based builds can work if you get the right items early

Opening Strategy – The First 60 Seconds

Your run is made or broken in the first minute.

Your Priorities:

Charge into enemies immediately.

You need fast XP to hit your first level-up ASAP.

Don’t avoid damage — embrace it.

Break every pot nearby.

Primary source of XP and gold early.

Hope for Shield Tome in your first or second level.

If not? Restart.

First goal: Get Shield Tome.

No Shield Tome = no snowball = dead run.

Regen is acceptable but suboptimal.

Watch your minimap.

Prioritize Moai statues and gold chests

Avoid difficulty totems — you won’t scale fast enough to benefit from extra enemies

Use shrine buffs strategically.

Boost your weaknesses (armor, evasion)

Skip shield buffs — invest in leveling the Shield Tome instead

Movement speed is excellent for kiting

Tomes Tier List (for Pacifist Challenge)

These are your only active progression choices during a pacifist run. Build wisely.

1. Shield Tome

Your #1 damage and defense source.

  • Slam into enemies until shield breaks
  • Retreat while it regenerates
  • Repeat
  • High-level shields + thorns = passive death zone

2. Thorns Tome

Main damage scaling.

  • Thorns scale per hit — works beautifully with shield dives
  • Should be leveled alongside shield in a near 1:1 ratio
  • Aim for 100+ thorns by the boss fight

3. Regen Tome

Keeps your base HP topped up.

  • Works in tandem with shield tanking
  • Helps you stay in low HP range (Athena bonus damage)
  • Especially useful when no campfires are available

4. Armor / Evasion / Max HP

Grouped together because they’re secondary:

  • Armor: Best of the three, reduces incoming damage
  • Evasion: Chance to avoid damage entirely — works with Ninja builds
  • Max HP: Least valuable — long regen time makes it inefficient vs. shields

Tip: Toggle off irrelevant tomes in settings to improve odds of getting what you want.

Items for Pacifist Builds

While all items are helpful, these have the biggest impact for non-weapon runs:

Cursed Doll

Top-tier pacifist item.

  • Slowly kills a random enemy every few seconds
  • Amazing for mini-bosses and chip damage
  • Lets you play passively while racking up kills safely

Moldy Cheese

  • Boosts poison damage
  • When paired with shield dives or passive movement items, helps melt the boss
  • Two stacks = noticeable boss damage during B-hop hits

Bob (Dead)

  • Emits damaging ghosts while you move
  • Scales extremely well with Monke or other high-speed characters
  • Turn every dodge into a death cloud

Medkit

  • Boosts HP regen
  • Keeps you in safe range after chip damage
  • More health = more dives

Campfire

  • Great burst healing
  • Allows risky plays if you can fall back and heal safely

Ghost

  • Pot smashing becomes passive damage
  • Guaranteed value if you break pots constantly

Dragonfire (Legendary)

  • Synergizes with Cursed Doll
  • Leaves fire zones where damage is applied
  • Insane for wave clear while staying hands-free

Boss Fight

By the time you reach the boss, you should have:

  • 100+ thorns
  • Shield Tome at high level
  • At least one strong passive item (Cursed Doll, Moldy Cheese, etc.)
  • Good movement and regen

Expect These Challenges:

  • The boss may get stuck in a giant swarm of enemies
  • If your shield breaks mid-dive, retreat immediately
  • Maintain map control to avoid being pinned

Advanced Tactics:

If the boss is buried in a swarm, use enemy ranged attacks to boost yourself onto its head and B-hop on it for poison or thorns damage

If you see a nuke drop, consider saving it until the boss appears and lure them into it — massive value

Perseverance (You’ll Need It)

This challenge is not just hard — it’s frustratingly inconsistent.

Perfect runs can fail due to bad shrine RNG

Great scaling can be undone by a single poor bounce or mob trap

Luck and execution are both required
Treat each run as practice in:

Map awareness

Movement control

Damage economy

Eventually, everything will click — and when it does, that boss won’t know what hit them (literally).
