Kingshot Bear Trap Guide 2026 – Best Formations, Rally

The Bear Trap is one of the most important recurring alliance events in Kingshot. It is a 30-minute damage race where your goal is simple: deal as much damage to the Raging Bear as possible while cycling your troops through rallies as quickly and efficiently as you can.

The biggest gains do not necessarily come from spending more. Correct troop formations, choosing the right joiner heroes, coordinating rally leaders, upgrading the Pitfall, and keeping marches close to the trap can make a huge difference.

This complete guide covers the best formations by generation, the strongest Bear Trap heroes, rally mechanics, Pitfall upgrades, pets, damage optimization, alliance coordination, rewards, and mistakes to avoid.

Kingshot Bear Trap Guide 2026: Best Formations, Heroes & Rally Tips

For Gen 4 and later, a strong starting formation is:

1% Infantry / 10% Cavalry / 89% Archers

However, this should be treated as a baseline rather than an absolute rule. Depending on your troop count, hero investment, research, gear, and generation, formations such as 5/5/90, 1/5/94, or 10/10/80 can sometimes perform better.

Always compare the estimated damage on your march screen before locking in your final formation.

For earlier generations:

Generation Infantry Cavalry Archers
Gen 1 10% 30% 60%
Gen 2 10% 20% 70%
Gen 3 10% 10% 80%
Gen 4+ 1% 10% 89%

For Gen 4+, also make sure your Infantry count does not become excessively low. If 1% of your march is below roughly 5,000 Infantry, test a slightly higher Infantry percentage and compare the damage preview.

Best Bear Trap Joiner Heroes

Your first hero matters enormously when joining somebody else’s rally.

The best joiner heroes include:

S+ Tier

  • Chenko
  • Amadeus
  • Yeonwoo
  • Amane
  • Margot
  • Vivian
  • Wee & Woo
  • Ava

A Tier

  • Hilde
  • Thrud

Situational / B Tier

  • Marlin
  • Zoe
  • Jaeger
  • Petra

Avoid as first joiner hero

  • Jabel
  • Gordon
  • Edwin
  • Longfei
  • Helga
  • Diana

The important thing is not simply the hero’s rarity. Your first hero’s first Expedition skill is what contributes to another player’s rally.

If you do not have an appropriate offensive joiner hero, sending troops without a hero is better than sending a bad hero.

How Bear Trap Works

Bear Trap is an alliance PvE event that lasts 30 minutes.

During the event:

  • The Raging Bear does not attack your troops.
  • You do not lose troops.
  • Your troops do not become injured.
  • You do not spend stamina.
  • You repeatedly send troops into rallies.
  • Your alliance earns rewards according to total damage.
  • Your personal damage also contributes toward individual rewards.

Because the Bear does not fight back, defensive stats are far less important here.

Your main objective is maximizing offensive output through:

Attack + Lethality + troop count + hero buffs + rally frequency.

That means a PvP formation designed around surviving enemy attacks is not automatically a good Bear Trap formation.

Rally Leader vs. Rally Joiner

One of the most important mechanics to understand is that the rally leader and joiner contribute differently.

Contribution Rally Leader Rally Joiner
Own troops Yes Yes
Combat Research Yes No
Governor Gear Yes No
Charms Yes No
Hero Equipment Yes No
Hero skills All 3 heroes First skill of first hero
Pet bonuses Yes No
Other personal buffs Yes No

This is why strong players should usually be prioritized as rally leaders.

When you join someone else’s rally, your second and third heroes primarily help increase your march capacity. Their skills do not provide additional rally buffs.

Your first hero’s first Expedition skill is the important part.

The Four Joiner Skill Slots

A rally can benefit from only four active joiner skills.

This creates an important coordination problem.

If four strong players join with excellent first skills, the rally is already receiving its maximum number of joiner skill contributions.

A weak hero can therefore become a problem if it occupies one of those slots.

For example, sending Jabel simply because you have her available is not necessarily helpful. If her first skill gets selected, she can take a slot that could otherwise have been occupied by Chenko, Amadeus, Yeonwoo, Amane, or another strong offensive hero.

If you do not have a useful first skill, send troops only.

For players who need extra heroes in slots 2 and 3 to increase troop capacity, use a hero with a weak/low-level first skill rather than a highly leveled inappropriate skill. A low-level skill can be replaced more easily if a stronger joiner enters later.

Best Bear Trap Formation by Generation

The meta becomes increasingly Archer-heavy as your kingdom progresses.

Gen 1: 10/30/60

Use:

10% Infantry / 30% Cavalry / 60% Archers

Cavalry still provides substantial value at this stage because of the heroes and stats available in early generations.

Gen 2: 10/20/70

Use:

10% Infantry / 20% Cavalry / 70% Archers

Archers become increasingly important, so reduce Cavalry while increasing your Archer percentage.

Gen 3: 10/10/80

Use:

10% Infantry / 10% Cavalry / 80% Archers

This is the classic Bear Trap formation many players remember.

Gen 4+: 1/10/89

For later generations, start with:

1% Infantry / 10% Cavalry / 89% Archers

The reason is simple: Archers generally provide the strongest damage output in these Bear Trap setups.

However, do not blindly copy another player’s formation.

Your own:

  • Archer Attack
  • Archer Lethality
  • Cavalry stats
  • Research
  • Hero development
  • Governor Gear
  • Troop count
  • March capacity

can change the optimal ratio.

Test several formations using the game’s damage preview and use whichever produces the highest result.

Why Not Use 100% Archers?

If Archers deal the most damage, it might seem logical to simply use 100% Archers.

The problem is that some hero abilities and bonuses depend on having other troop types present.

Infantry and Cavalry can therefore have value even when they are not your primary damage dealers.

That is why a small amount of Infantry and Cavalry can outperform an all-Archer march.

For Gen 4+, start around 1/10/89, then test nearby variations.

Chenko: One of the Best Joiner Heroes

Chenko is one of the most valuable Bear Trap joiners because of her first Expedition skill.

Her first skill increases Squad Lethality, scaling from:

5% → 10% → 15% → 20% → 25%

A properly leveled Chenko can therefore provide a major offensive boost when joining another player’s rally.

Chenko is particularly useful for players who are not strong enough to serve as major rally hosts.

Instead of hosting a weak rally, you can often provide more value by joining strong hosts with an appropriate Chenko setup.

Amadeus

Amadeus has the same general type of first Expedition contribution as Chenko:

Squad Lethality +5% to +25%

His other skills are also useful when he is the rally leader.

This creates an interesting decision for stronger players.

If you are one of your alliance’s strongest rally leaders, using Amadeus as a host can provide enormous value because all three of his skills affect your rally.

But if another player can host with an equally strong or better setup, using Amadeus as a joiner can allow you to contribute his strong first skill to another rally.

Yeonwoo

Yeonwoo is another excellent joiner.

Her first Expedition skill increases total Squad Lethality:

5% → 10% → 15% → 20% → 25%

She belongs in the premium joiner pool alongside Chenko and Amadeus.

Amane and Margot

Amane and Margot are particularly valuable because they provide an Attack-based offensive buff.

Amane

Her first Expedition skill increases Squad Attack:

5% → 10% → 15% → 20% → 25%

Margot

Margot’s first Expedition skill also increases Squad Attack:

5% → 10% → 15% → 20% → 25%

The important point is that these Attack-focused skills can complement Lethality-focused joiner skills.

So rather than putting four identical types of buffs into one rally, your alliance should try to create a strong combination of different offensive buffs.

Vivian

Vivian becomes particularly valuable from Gen 5 onward.

Her first Expedition skill increases the damage taken by the enemy:

5% → 10% → 15% → 20% → 25%

This gives Vivian strong offensive utility in Bear Trap.

She becomes especially interesting for later-generation alliances where enemy damage amplification can combine with the rest of the alliance’s offensive buffs.

Ava

Ava becomes available in Gen 7.

Her first Expedition skill reduces the enemy’s total Squad Defense:

5% → 10% → 15% → 20% → 25%

That makes her another powerful offensive joiner.

Her later skills also provide additional offensive effects, but when joining another rally, the important part is her first Expedition skill.

Wee & Woo

Wee & Woo are another strong Gen 7 option.

Their first Expedition skill provides both:

  • Squad Attack
  • Squad Lethality

At maximum level, this reaches:

+15% Attack +10% Lethality

That makes them an excellent late-game joiner.

Joiner Tier List

Tier Heroes
S+ Chenko, Amadeus, Yeonwoo
S+ Amane, Margot
S+ Vivian, Wee & Woo, Ava
A Hilde, Thrud
B / Situational Marlin, Zoe, Jaeger, Petra
Avoid Jabel, Gordon, Edwin, Longfei, Diana

One important caveat: skill level matters.

A highly leveled older hero can be more useful than a newly unlocked hero whose first skill is barely developed.

The Most Important Joiner Rule

If you remember only one thing from this guide, remember this:

Never send a bad first hero just because the game lets you.

If you have:

  • Chenko → use her
  • Amadeus → use him
  • Yeonwoo → use her
  • Amane → use her
  • Margot → use her
  • Vivian → use her
  • Wee & Woo → use them
  • Ava → use her

If none of those are appropriately developed:

Send troops without a hero.

Your troops still contribute damage, and you avoid potentially occupying one of the four valuable joiner skill slots.

How to Build the Best Rally

The strongest rally is not necessarily the one containing four copies of the same hero.

Think about the buffs as groups.

For example:

Group A

  • Chenko
  • Amadeus
  • Yeonwoo

Group B

  • Amane
  • Margot

Skills within the same group can stack additively, while different buff categories can interact multiplicatively.

That means a rally containing a mixture of offensive buff types can outperform a rally that simply stacks the same type repeatedly.

A practical approach is:

2 Group A + 2 Group B

rather than automatically trying to fill all four slots with Group A.

The exact interaction of newer heroes such as Vivian, Ava, and Wee & Woo should be tested as their mechanics become better understood.

The Chenko Decision

When should you send Chenko?

If the rally has fewer than two Group A skills

Send Chenko, Amadeus, or Yeonwoo.

Their Lethality contribution provides straightforward value.

If two Group A skills are already active

If you have a strong Amane or Margot, use one of them instead.

You are now adding a different offensive buff category rather than continuing to stack the same category.

If you have no Group B hero

A third Group A hero is still useful.

It is much better than filling the slot with an inappropriate defensive or economic hero.

If all four slots are already excellent

Don’t force another hero into the rally.

Send troops only or use additional heroes in slots 2 and 3 for capacity.

Rally Host Heroes

Rally leaders are different because their full hero setup contributes to the rally.

Gen 1

A strong setup is:

Amadeus + Jabel + Quinn

For F2P players:

Howard + Jabel + Quinn

At this stage, focus on maximizing the heroes and stats you actually have rather than chasing later-generation strategies.

Gen 2–Gen 3

As stronger Archer-focused heroes become available, transition your host setup toward heroes that provide:

  • Attack
  • Lethality
  • Damage amplification
  • Enemy defense reduction
  • Troop-specific offensive bonuses

Gen 4+

The best host should generally be the player with the strongest combination of:

  • Hero development
  • Governor Gear
  • Research
  • Charms
  • Pet bonuses
  • Troop quality
  • March capacity
  • Archer stats

The highest-power player is not automatically the best host if their Bear Trap setup is poorly optimized.

Pitfall Upgrade

The Pitfall should be upgraded before the event.

The maximum level provides a substantial Attack bonus to your alliance.

Pitfall Level Arrows Required Total Arrows Attack Bonus
1 200 200 +5%
2 300 500 +10%
3 400 900 +15%
4 500 1,400 +20%
5 500 1,900 +25%

How to Get Arrows

Members can obtain Hunting Arrows through Intel Missions.

With approximately 40 active members:

40 × 24 = 960 arrows per day

Over two days:

960 × 2 = 1,920 arrows

That is enough to reach the Pitfall’s maximum requirement of 1,900 arrows.

Once the Pitfall reaches Level 5, stop donating arrows if they cannot contribute to another useful upgrade.

Pets for Bear Trap

Some pets are much more useful than others.

Recommended

Mighty Bison

Provides additional Squad Capacity, allowing you to bring more troops.

Black Panther

Provides a direct Lethality bonus.

Giant Rhino

Provides Squad Attack.

Moose — Rally Capacity skill

Useful for rally hosts who need additional rally capacity.

Avoid Wasting

The Moose’s Horror Stare effect is not useful for Bear Trap if it targets a stat the Bear does not use.

Do not activate a pet skill simply because it is strong in PvP.

Always check whether its effect actually applies to the Bear Trap target.

Damage Optimization

There are two different concepts to understand:

Raw stats and hero skill percentages.

If your account has significantly lower Lethality than Attack, increasing Lethality can produce a larger proportional improvement because you are increasing the weaker multiplier.

For example, if your stats were:

  • Attack: 10,000
  • Lethality: 2,000

Adding 500 to Lethality represents a much larger proportional increase than adding 500 to Attack.

But that does not mean Lethality is always better than Attack.

Look at your own account and determine which stat is providing the greater marginal improvement.

Recommended Stat Priority

For many mid-to-late-game accounts, a useful starting priority is:

  1. Archer Lethality
  2. Archer Attack
  3. Troop Deployment Capacity
  4. Cavalry Lethality
  5. Additional offensive stats

Continue improving these through:

  • Governor Gear
  • Governor Charms
  • Academy Research
  • War Academy
  • Island progression
  • Chief Gear
  • Troop upgrades

The 5,000 Infantry Rule

If you use the 1/10/89 formation, check the actual number of Infantry troops.

For example, if your march capacity is 300,000:

1% = 3,000 Infantry

That may be too low for the practical floor many players use.

Instead, test something like:

2/10/88

and compare the damage preview.

The best percentage is the one that produces the highest actual damage for your account.

Alliance Coordination

Individual optimization is only half of Bear Trap.

A well-organized alliance can massively outperform a group of stronger players who all act independently.

Put Strong Rally Leaders Near the Trap

March time matters.

If a rally leader takes 90 seconds to reach the Pitfall while another takes 15 seconds, the closer player can potentially complete many more attacks during the 30-minute event.

Move your strongest rally leaders close to the Pitfall before Bear Trap starts.

Joiners do not need to be directly beside the Pitfall, but avoiding unnecessarily long march times still helps.

Calculate a Troop Cap

One of the best ways to prevent rallies from filling instantly is to establish a standard joiner troop cap.

For example:

If a rally can hold:

1,132,210 total troops

and the host occupies:

162,210 troops

then:

1,132,210 − 162,210 = 970,000

That leaves approximately 970,000 capacity for joiners.

With 14 joiner positions:

970,000 ÷ 14 ≈ 69,285

You could therefore set a practical alliance cap of around:

69,000 troops per joiner

This keeps rallies open longer and allows more alliance members to participate.

Don’t Let Every Rally Fill Instantly

If everyone sends their maximum possible troop count, the first rally can fill in seconds.

Then the second rally fills.

Then the third.

Meanwhile, other members are left waiting.

A standardized troop cap makes it easier to distribute players across rallies and increases total alliance participation.

Stagger Rally Launches

Do not have every rally leader launch at exactly the same second.

A simple structure could be:

30:00 — strongest hosts launch

28:30–29:00 — second group launches

27:00–28:00 — remaining approved hosts launch

Last 7 minutes — everyone launches available rallies

The exact timings can be adjusted for your alliance.

The important principle is:

Quality first, then quantity.

The Final 5–7 Minutes

The final minutes are especially important.

Even weaker players should open rallies if they have available marches.

Their own rally may not deal impressive damage, but opening another rally creates another place for stronger players to send troops.

That can lead to additional attacks before the event ends.

Do not leave available marches sitting idle during the final minutes.

Secondary Marches

Strong players with multiple marches can contribute their joiner skills to multiple rallies.

For example, one march might join a rally containing:

Chenko + Amadeus

while another march joins a rally where:

Amane + Margot

are already active.

This spreads powerful joiner skills across the alliance rather than concentrating all of them into one rally.

Bear Trap Timeline

5 Minutes Before

  • Recall gathering troops.
  • Check formation.
  • Equip appropriate gear.
  • Activate relevant pet skills.
  • Move close to the Pitfall if necessary.
  • Check alliance instructions.

0–5 Minutes

  • Strongest hosts launch.
  • Strong joiners prioritize designated rallies.
  • Fill the best rallies first.

5–23 Minutes

  • Keep cycling marches.
  • Rejoin rallies immediately after troops return.
  • Avoid long periods of idle troops.

23–30 Minutes

  • Open additional rallies.
  • Use every available march.
  • Stop worrying about finding the perfect rally if it costs too much march time.
  • Maximize the number of attacks before the timer ends.

F2P Strategy

F2P players can still make a meaningful contribution.

Your priorities should be:

  1. Complete Intel Missions.
  2. Donate your Hunting Arrows.
  3. Attend every Bear Trap.
  4. Join strong rallies.
  5. Use the correct formation.
  6. Develop a strong joiner hero.
  7. Avoid hosting weak rallies.
  8. Save resources for valuable Bear Trap heroes.

If you do not have a suitable offensive joiner:

Send troops without a hero.

That is better than wasting a rally skill slot.

Low-Spender Strategy

Low spenders should focus on becoming excellent joiners before trying to compete with the strongest rally hosts.

Prioritize:

  • One strong joiner hero
  • Archer development
  • Lethality
  • Attack
  • March capacity
  • Research
  • Hero equipment
  • Consistent Bear Trap participation

A well-developed Chenko, Amadeus, Yeonwoo, Amane, or Margot can provide significant alliance value.

Whale / Rally Host Strategy

If you are one of the strongest players in your alliance, your role is different.

Your priorities are:

  • Host the strongest rallies.
  • Keep your castle close to the Pitfall.
  • Maximize rally capacity.
  • Use your strongest offensive heroes.
  • Activate relevant pets.
  • Coordinate with R4/R5.
  • Keep marches cycling continuously.

Your hero skills affect everyone in your rally, so upgrades to your account can have an alliance-wide effect.

Pre-Bear Trap Checklist

Before every event, check:

  • Complete Intel Missions.
  • Donate the required arrows.
  • Confirm Pitfall Level 5.
  • Recall gathering troops.
  • Set the correct formation.
  • Equip offensive gear.
  • Check your first joiner hero.
  • Activate useful pet skills.
  • Move close to the Pitfall if required.
  • Check the alliance troop cap.
  • Check which players are designated rally hosts.
  • Read R4/R5 instructions.
  • Prepare your formation preset.

Bear Trap Rewards

The reward structure changes depending on kingdom age.

Kingdom Days 1–69

Early kingdoms can receive rewards including:

  • Howard Shards
  • Resources
  • Alliance-related rewards
  • Other event rewards

Kingdom Day 70+

Older kingdoms receive a different reward structure focused more heavily on:

  • Forgehammers
  • Lucky Hero Gear Chests
  • Resources
  • Alliance rewards

This is why two players on different kingdom ages can see different Bear Trap rewards even when they reach similar damage thresholds.
