The Last Caretaker Mechshark Guide -How to Kill

This The Last Caretaker Mechshark Guide explains the easiest and safest way to deal with mechsharks in The Last Caretaker. You’ll learn where to find them, which weapons perform best, how to fight from the right position, and how to reliably salvage their bodies for resources.

How to find a shark?

Finding a mechshark is the easy part—they appear almost everywhere. You don’t need to search systematically; simply travel around and you’ll eventually spot one. New players will likely see a shark immediately, as one spawns near the starting area.

What weapon do I need?

Early Game – Standard Pistol

The regular pistol (not the electro version) works well enough at the start. It has decent range and accuracy, but weak damage, so expect to use around seven magazines to bring a mechshark down.

Mid Game – Standard Rifle

Later, you unlock the standard rifle. It has solid damage and consistency, killing a shark with two to three magazines.
Level 18 unlocks electro-amphibious ammunition, but despite the name, it doesn’t increase damage. It still takes two to three magazines, while consuming aluminum—an important resource—so many players skip it.

Sniper Rifle

The sniper rifle delivers the highest single-shot damage (excluding charged shots), but the downside is its ammo cost. Each magazine costs titanium, which is the same material you’re trying to salvage from the shark. Expect to spend 12–15 shots, roughly three titanium, while each shark gives about six titanium. This makes the sniper usable, but not efficient.

Electro Rifle – Recommended

The electro rifle is the best overall choice. It has excellent range and uses electricity instead of physical ammo. Single shots aren’t strong, but its charged shots deal very high damage. Since it consumes no materials, it is the most cost-effective weapon to hunt sharks with.

How to kill the shark?

A few mechanics are important to understand before you start:

The shark can kill you instantly, so entering the water is extremely risky.

The shark can damage your boat, but only slightly. Even at zero health, the boat does not sink in its current state.

The shark cannot perform jumping attacks, so it cannot board the boat, though its melee range is decent.
This makes the boat the safest and most stable fighting position.

There are no known weak points on enemies. However, shooting through the water is unreliable—always aim for parts of the shark that rise above the surface. Shots into water are inconsistent, possibly due to refraction or damage drop-off.

Recommended Fighting Positions

Two positions on the boat consistently give the best angles:

Under the stairs and the opposite side of that lower deck

The gallery platform, which is the most effective spot because of its height advantage

Avoid Night Hunts

Nighttime hunting is strongly discouraged. While the shark is the only marine creature that appears during the day, nighttime adds two additional threats:

  • The red carriers
  • The small worms released when carriers burst

Carriers explode near the player or randomly, releasing large quantities of worms. A swarm can be extremely dangerous, and multiple carriers will spawn if the boat remains still for too long.

Both carriers and worms collapse instantly when exposed to sunlight, making daytime the safest and most controlled period to hunt sharks.

How to loot a shark?

After killing a mechshark, you won’t receive instant loot. Instead, the shark leaves behind a carcass that must be salvaged. Salvaging can be tricky because waves constantly move the body and interrupt your aim.

Two areas on the shark generally provide the most reliable salvage points:

  1. The neck, just behind the first dorsal fin
  2. The throat, slightly forward under the head

These spots aren’t perfect every time, but they’re the most consistent.

Important: Stay Connected to Power

Salvaging consumes 0.6 kW. If you don’t stay connected to a power source, you risk taking damage—possibly fatal if your power capacity is low.

Loot You Can Expect

Mechsharks provide:

  • Ultra High-Tech Scrap
  • High-Tech Scrap
  • Tech Scrap
  • Aluminum Scrap
  • Copper Scrap
  • Cable Scrap
  • Metal Scrap
  • Broken Glass
  • Bio-Meat

Among these, the most valuable materials are Carbon, Titanium, Plasma Gel, and Neutronium, which come from the higher-tier scrap types. Bio-Meat is also important later in the game.

Mechsharks also reward a good amount of experience, making them a reliable target for leveling.

Why I did this?

Most of this is straightforward, but since some players run into trouble with specific mechanics, this guide aims to give a clear, complete explanation. If anyone has additional tips or better methods, feel free to share them. This is a first guide attempt, so any corrections—language or otherwise—are welcome.
