Warhammer Vermintide 2 Return to the Reik Guide – Tomes

This Warhammer Vermintide 2 Return to the Reik Guide shows you where all Tomes and Grimoires are located in the Return to the Reik mission, along with tips for completing the related Okri’s Challenges.

Most book placements are the same as in Vermintide 1, but this walkthrough keeps everything simple and easy to follow.

Warhammer Vermintide 2 Return to the Reik Guide – Tomes

Tome 1

Right near the beginning, you’ll enter the large waterfall clearing.
Stick to the left side and you’ll find a Troll cave containing a Bile Troll.
After killing it, drop into the pit in the center of the room—the Tome is on the ground.

Tome 2

Continue through the mission until you reach the cave that connects to the first Rotblood camp.

Just before exiting the cave, turn right.
There’s a chest placed off the main path, and the tome is inside.

Shortcut classes:
Battle Wizard, Slayer, Handmaiden, and Zealot can jump/dash from the start of this cave straight to the tome area, avoiding a backtrack.
For Handmaiden / Zealot, jump → dash, not dash → jump, to get enough distance.

Grimoire 1

After finishing the first Rotblood camp, follow the path forward until you see a ruined house and reach the beach.

On the beach, check the right side for a small chained tunnel.
Inside it is a key.

Take this key back to the ruined house.
You can now open the trapdoor inside.
Drop down to the altar—the Grimoire is there.

Tome 3

Still in the ruined house: go to the top floor.
Look under the bed.
The final Tome is hidden underneath it.

Grimoire 2

Near the end of the mission you’ll board a Skaven ship that you need to destroy with explosive barrels.

Go to the helm (rear) of the ship.
Take the right-side ramp upward, then jump onto the wooden boards that lead to the roof.

The Grimoire is on the roof.

Alternative route:
You can also reach it from the barrel/steering wheel area if your class has enough height or mobility (dwarves may have trouble).

Okri’s Challenges and Useful Shortcuts

Early Shortcut (Skip Troll + Tome 1 Path)

At the very start, if you don’t need the first tome and want to skip the Troll cave:

  • Jump from the burning ship
  • Land on the nearby rocks
  • Move onto a crashed ship
  • Walk along the mast to reconnect with the main path near the barrel/cave entrance

Quick, safe, and useful for speed.

Cave Skip (Mobility Classes Only)

Battle Wizard, Slayer, Handmaiden, and Zealot can skip most of the cave by performing the same jump/dash trick used to shortcut Tome 2. Aim for the higher ledge on the right.

Challenge: Give ‘Em a Volley

Once you start the ship event:

  1. Run to port side (left if facing forward).
  2. Stand directly behind the right cannon.
  3. When the tree lines up with the cannon, start firing.
  4. Switch to the left cannon and fire it.
  5. Return to the first cannon when it recharges.
  6. Then the left cannon again.

If timed well, the right cannon alone will destroy both targets. The left cannon is your backup in case the first shot misses.

Challenge: Scuttling Scoundrels

This one is all about timing the cannon volleys on the circling pirate ships.

  1. Watch for the first ship lining up on your starboard side (right).
  2. Fire right cannon, then left cannon.
  3. Wait for the second ship to line up—fire both again.
  4. Switch to port side and repeat:
    • Right cannon → left cannon
    • Then wait for the second ship and fire again.

If you hit your timings cleanly, both ships go down before they circle away. If you miss, you still usually get one more window.

Challenge: Overwhelming Firepower

Sometimes a Chaos Warrior spawns directly in line with a cannon before the ship event starts—avoid aggroing him and use that opportunity.

If no elite is conveniently placed:

  • Have a teammate lure a Chaos Warrior into cannon range, or
  • In solo play, sprint to the ship right after lighting the beach beacon and spam the cannons while the horde crosses the sand.

Challenge: Casting Off

Bots don’t target grapples, so this challenge needs a full team.

Useful tip:

  • Grail Knight’s Blessed Blade and Shade’s Infiltrate both deal heavy damage to grapples.
  • Shade can hit grapples without breaking invisibility, making the process safer.
