Trading in Code Vein II looks simple on the surface, but once you actually start caring about unlocking dialogue, rewards, and character progress, the point system matters more than the item itself. This guide breaks down exactly how gift favorability converts into points and which items each NPC values the most, based entirely on in-game asset data rather than guesswork or player testing.
Everything here reflects game version 1.0.3. Unless the developers overhaul the trading system in future updates or DLC, these values are effectively final.
How Trading Points Actually Work
Every time you give an item to an NPC, the game assigns a fixed point value based on how much that character likes the gift. The wording might feel vague in-game, but internally it is very precise.
If an item is marked as a favorite, it grants a massive boost compared to normal gifts. Likes still matter, but the difference between “favorite” and everything else is big enough that you should almost always prioritize favorites when possible.
Here are the exact point values pulled from the game data:
| Favorability | Points Gained |
|---|---|
| Favorite | 7.0 |
| Like | 3.0 |
| Normal | 2.0 |
| Dislike | 1.0 |
There is also a penalty for repeating gifts. If you give the same item again, the game applies a reduced value defined internally as 0.66. That means spamming the same favorite item is still helpful, but far less efficient than rotating different favorites.
NPC Favorite Items (Best Gifts Only)
Each NPC has exactly three favorite items. Giving any of these guarantees the highest possible point gain for that character.

If you are trying to maximize efficiency rather than roleplay, the strategy is straightforward. Save luxury items until you are certain who you want to build favor with, rotate between that NPC’s three favorites to avoid repeat penalties, and avoid wasting high-value gifts on characters you are not actively progressing.
Normal and disliked items are functionally filler. They can be used when you are clearing inventory space or testing reactions, but they are never optimal if progression speed matters.
All values and item preferences in this guide come directly from Code Vein II’s internal asset data. Item names reflect raw asset identifiers rather than localized strings, but they are close enough to identify easily in-game. This is not crowdsourced information and not based on trial-and-error testing.
If the trading system changes in future updates or DLC, this guide will need revision. Until then, these values are as accurate as it gets.
