If you’ve started running into Ogre variants in Grounded 2, then you already know these things are absolute monsters compared to normal bugs. They hit harder, come with elemental effects, and honestly feel closer to mini raid bosses than regular enemies.
The first Ogre I fought was the Mantis, and I walked in thinking, “Alright, probably just a bigger version of the normal fight.” Ten seconds later I was frozen, electrocuted, and burning at the same time.
So yeah, preparation matters here.
This guide covers:
- every known Ogre location
- how to unlock Ogre encounters
- Buggy Buffer upgrades explained
- elemental effects
- survival tips for cold zones
- recommended prep before each fight
And since the game is still evolving, I’ll also point out which Ogre locations are currently incomplete.
How to Unlock Ogre Bosses in Grounded 2
Before any Ogre variants can appear, you first need to visit the Scarecrow Lab.
This area acts as the trigger for the entire Ogre system.
Inside the lab, the Ogres are locked inside experimental chambers. You’ll need to manually activate the release sequence before they begin appearing around the yard.
If you visit coordinates and nothing spawns, chances are you haven’t completed this step yet.
Grounded 2 Ogre Locations Guide – Every Ogre Boss, Coordinates
The Buggy Buffer is one of the most important systems in Grounded 2 because it allows you to evolve your insect companions into stronger forms.
The game explains it pretty briefly, so here’s the simple version.
To Upgrade a Buggy:
- your buggy must actively follow you
- it cannot stay inside the kennel
- each species requires different rare materials
- interact with the Buggy Buffer while the companion is nearby
One important detail a lot of players miss:
Your Buggy Is Temporarily Unavailable During Upgrades
Always keep a backup companion ready before starting an evolution.
I made the mistake of upgrading my main buggy right before heading into an Ogre zone and instantly regretted it.
All Ogre Element Types Explained
Every Ogre variant can spawn with elemental modifiers.
These completely change how the fight feels.
Mint (Fresh)
- slows movement
- drains stamina
- frost effects
This version becomes especially annoying during mobile fights.
Sour (Shock)
- high stun damage
- interrupts combos
- punishes aggressive melee play
Probably the roughest variant for close-range builds.
Spicy (Burn)
- burn damage over time
- occasional explosions
- constant health pressure
This is usually the most chaotic version because the burn stacks surprisingly fast.
Ogre Mantis Location
Coordinates
6N / -65E
The Ogre Mantis is located to the left of the hot dog cart on top of the watermelon candy box.
There’s a spider web leading upward which acts as the main path to the arena.
This tends to be the first Ogre many players encounter, but it’s definitely not a free win.
The Mantis becomes extremely dangerous with Sour or Spicy modifiers active.
Recommended Preparation
Bring:
- healing supplies
- stamina-focused gear
- ranged backup weapons
- resistance smoothies
The Sour version can stun-lock players hard if you overcommit to attacks.
Ogre Ladybug Location
Coordinates
68N / -54E
The Ogre Ladybug sits at the top of the Ice Chest near the Picnic Table area.
Compared to some later Ogres, the attack patterns are fairly manageable, but the environment itself is the real challenge.
The interior of the cooler constantly applies freezing pressure.
What You Need Before Entering
Warm Armor
Without insulation, the cold damage becomes brutal very quickly.
Torch or Heat Source
A torch helps offset the freezing effect while moving through the cooler.
Extra Healing
The climb itself can drain resources before the fight even begins.
How to Reach the Ogre Ladybug
- Enter the cooler interior
- Navigate upward through the frozen sections
- Reach the top platform
- Prepare immediately because the arena space is fairly tight
Honestly, the environment gave me more trouble than the boss itself the first time.
Ogre Butterfly Location
Coordinates
1N / -19E
The Ogre Butterfly is located on top of the Ice Cream Cart.
This fight plays very differently from most Ogre encounters because the Butterfly spends most of the battle airborne.
If your build relies entirely on slow melee weapons, expect a frustrating time.
How to Reach the Ogre Butterfly
Step 1: Enter the Ice Cream Cart
Head inside the main cart structure.
Step 2: Locate the Large Pipe
At the rear interior, there’s a large pipe leading toward the outside section.
Step 3: Climb the Wooden Stick
After exiting the pipe, use the leaning wooden stick as your route upward.
Step 4: Reach the Roof
The Ogre Butterfly patrols the very top area.
Survival Tips for the Ice Cream Cart
Just like the Ice Chest:
- cold damage is constant
- warm armor is essential
- torches help significantly
I’d also strongly recommend:
- ranged weapons
- stamina regeneration items
- mobility gear
Trying to chase a flying Ogre while freezing is exactly as painful as it sounds.
Ogre Wolf Spider Location
Coordinates
97N / -13E
The Ogre Wolf Spider location is currently known, but detailed fight information is still limited.
That probably means most players are still getting destroyed before documenting the encounter properly.
If it behaves similarly to regular Wolf Spiders, expect:
- aggressive lunges
- poison pressure
- rapid combo attacks
Bringing antidotes is probably a good idea.

Best General Tips for Fighting Ogres
After fighting several variants, a few things became obvious pretty quickly.
Don’t Ignore Element Resistance
A build that works perfectly against normal bugs can completely fall apart against Ogre versions.
Fresh, Sour, and Spicy modifiers massively change fights.
Carry Multiple Weapons
Especially for:
- flying enemies
- elemental counters
- stun-heavy encounters
Some Ogre fights heavily punish one-dimensional loadouts.
Upgrade Companions Early
A strong evolved buggy helps tremendously because it:
- pulls aggro
- creates breathing room
- adds consistent damage
Soloing certain Ogre fights without upgraded companions can feel rough.
The Ogre system is easily one of the coolest mechanics currently in Grounded 2.
Instead of simply making enemies stronger, the game turns them into full encounter-style minibosses with:
- elemental effects
- environmental hazards
- traversal challenges
- companion synergy
And honestly, some of the journeys to the bosses are almost harder than the fights themselves.
The Ice Cream Cart climb especially felt like a dungeon run before the actual battle even started.
