EMUUROM can be confusing during the opening hours because many mechanics aren’t fully explained immediately. The game encourages experimentation, observation, and scanning everything you encounter. While it shares some similarities with puzzle-heavy exploration games, most required solutions are less obscure than they first appear.
This EMUUROM Beginner Guide covers important early-game mechanics, progression tips, and optional systems that new players should understand before reaching the fourth boss.
Scan Everything
The single most important tip in EMUUROM is simple: scan everything.
Even if you’ve already scanned a similar creature or object, scan new versions whenever possible. Important information is stored in the Emuudex, which can be accessed through the map menu.
The Emuudex records:
- Creature information
- Puzzle clues
- Environmental hints
- Mechanics explanations
You rarely need to write down information manually because most discoveries are automatically recorded.
Don’t Be Afraid to Reset
EMUUROM includes a useful reset feature.
Using Reset Game from the pause menu returns you to the title screen while preserving your save file.
This can be useful if:
- You missed a scan.
- A puzzle behaves unexpectedly.
- You want to refresh certain events.
Resetting does not delete progress.
Required Early-Game Mechanics
Several creatures and environmental puzzles are necessary for progression.
Snails
Snails are more important than they initially appear.
Scanning them explains their mechanics and helps unlock shortcut routes throughout the world.
Snake Puzzles
The snake puzzle contains several important clues nearby.
Pay close attention to surrounding objects and scan everything in the area.
Covered Room on the Left Side of the Map
One mysterious room begins hidden early in the game.
Fortunately, this puzzle can usually be solved without additional hints if you carefully inspect the environment.
Birds and Clouds
Understanding how birds interact with clouds becomes extremely important later, especially in dry regions of the map.
These mechanics are mandatory for progression.
Water Turtles
Always scan turtles when you encounter them.
Many players overlook an important interaction: you can stand on them.
Wolves
Wolf behavior is a major puzzle element.
Key observations include:
- Cubs can wake sleeping wolves.
- Wolves react to line of sight.
- Their targeting behavior affects more than just the player.
Learning these mechanics is necessary for later progression.
Constellations
Constellations appear after boss encounters.
While their exact purpose isn’t immediately obvious, they seem to play a role in progression and should not be ignored.
Optional Early-Game Content
Several systems can safely be ignored during your first playthrough.
Butterflies
Butterflies become marked on your map after being scanned.
Their full purpose isn’t required until much later.
Gnomes
Gnomes are collectible discoveries and are not required for early progression.
Ducklings
Duckling puzzles teach an advanced movement technique.
While useful, completing them isn’t required early on.
Whirligig Flowers
These are optional collectibles connected to additional secrets.
X Marks
These become more important later but are not necessary before reaching an ending.
Glyph Language
You don’t need to fully translate the game’s mysterious language during the early game.
Many important solutions have more direct clues nearby.
Early Boss Tips
Birds Boss
One of the easier encounters.
If you miss scanning a form during the battle, you can save, reset, and attempt the fight again.
Snake and Frog Head Boss
The primary objective is reaching the top-right exit.
Focus on getting the head onto higher platforms rather than worrying about every nearby mechanic.
Bear Boss
The goal is to drop the cubs onto the large bear.
Freezing berries allows cubs to bypass obstacles.
You can also ride the cubs in certain situations.
Eagle Boss
Before fighting the Eagle:
- Fill most lakebeds with water.
- Scan nearby pillars.
- Return wandering birds if necessary.
The core mechanic involves using a dragonfly attack against the Eagle while repeatedly restoring environmental conditions.
Wolf Boss
The Wolf is defeated by striking it with fruit.
Pay attention to cloud patterns after each howl, as they influence the battle arena.
Hidden Movement Techniques
EMUUROM contains several “metroidbrainia” mechanics where players technically have abilities long before they’re explained.
High Bounce
Freeze a bouncy object and stand on it.
When the object unfreezes, you’ll receive a maximum-height bounce.
Coyote Jump
Like many platformers, EMUUROM allows jumps shortly after walking off a ledge.
This can help reach areas that initially seem impossible.
High Jump
After rescuing ducklings and learning the technique:
- Stand on the ground.
- Hold Scan.
- Hold Jump.
- Release Scan.
This creates a significantly higher jump.
Fast Travel
Fast travel is unlocked through a hidden mechanic.
By sitting down and waiting long enough, you can trigger an out-of-body experience that allows travel between activated save bells.
Requirements include:
- Activating the destination save bell.
- Scanning the room’s pillar.
Wall Warping
A later-game technique allows movement through walls.
By standing on moving platforms while holding Scan, players can maintain movement through solid objects under specific circumstances.
This mechanic becomes important in later sections of the game.
The biggest mistake new players make in EMUUROM is assuming every mystery requires an immediate solution. Many strange mechanics only make sense after obtaining additional knowledge later in the game.
For early progression, focus on scanning everything, studying creature behavior, and paying attention to clues recorded in the Emuudex. Most required solutions are much more straightforward than they initially appear once you’ve gathered the proper information.
