Witch’s Apocalyptic Journey throws players into a dark roguelike deckbuilder adventure with very little explanation. This Witch’s Apocalyptic Journey Beginner Guide explains the most important menus, currencies, combat systems, and progression mechanics so you can start making meaningful progress immediately.
Main Menu
When you first launch the game, you’ll see several important UI elements.
Currency Types
The game uses three primary currencies.
Coins
- Earned during runs.
- Used in shops while exploring stages.
- Spent on cards, relics, blessings, and other run-specific upgrades.
Psychological Crystallization
- One of the most valuable meta-progression currencies.
- Used to unlock permanent upgrades outside of runs.
Flow of Time
- Used to unlock certain progression systems and features.
- Usually earned through longer-term progression.
Level
Your account level increases as you play. The exact benefits are not fully explained by the game, but leveling appears tied to overall progression and unlocks.
Achievements
Achievements provide additional rewards and often grant meta-progression currencies.
Settings
Contains graphics, controls, audio, and other gameplay options.
Important Facilities Explained
Library
The Library acts as the game’s encyclopedia.
Here you can review:
- Cards
- Relics
- Blessings
- Enemies
- Buffs and Debuffs
- Sealing Wax effects
This is one of the most useful menus for learning mechanics after your first few runs.
Tower
The Tower menu contains progression information and unlockable content.
Many new players miss that this menu scrolls downward, so make sure to check the entire page.
Warehouse
The Warehouse stores collected items and progression-related content.
A known issue occasionally causes popup windows to become unclickable. If this happens, close open menus one by one until the popup becomes active again.
Dungeon Navigation
During a run, you’ll frequently see a map screen.
Stage List
The left side displays all available stages and routes.
Hovering over a stage provides additional information about what you’ll encounter.
Stage Progression Arrow
The arrow advances you to the next selected stage.
Stage Name
Shows the name of the current node or encounter.
Stamps
These are multiplayer emotes that allow communication with teammates.
Notes and Drawing Tools
Players can draw directly on the map.
Available tools include:
- Pen
- Eraser
- Clear All
These markings are useful for planning routes with friends.
Relic Display
All currently active relics appear here.
Special Card Placement Events
Occasionally you’ll receive special cards that appear at the bottom of the screen.
When this happens:
- Drag the card.
- Place it into the empty frame in the center.
- Remove it later by dragging it back.
Many players get stuck during these events because the game never explains the mechanic.
Combat UI Explained
Combat is where most of your time will be spent.
Mana
Located on the left side of the combat screen.
Every card consumes mana when played.
Managing mana efficiently is one of the most important skills in the game.
Character Skills
Each Witch has unique active abilities.
Hover over them to see their effects and cooldowns.
Deck
Clicking the deck displays all remaining cards.
The number indicates how many cards remain before reshuffling.
Restart Battle
Restarts the entire encounter.
This does not restart the current turn.
Everything returns to the state it was in when the battle started.
End Turn
Ends your current turn and allows enemies to act.
Discard Pile
Shows all cards that have already been used.
Hand
Displays the cards available for the current turn.
Card Types Explained
One of the most confusing mechanics for beginners is the difference between target cards and non-target cards.
Target Selection Cards
These cards require you to select a target.
You’ll know a card is target-based because:
- Dragging it creates an arrow.
- The arrow must point toward a target.
Targets can be:
- Enemies
- Allies
- Yourself
Depending on the card effect.
Non-Target Selection Cards
These cards activate without selecting a target.
You’ll know a card belongs to this category because:
- The entire card moves when dragged.
- No targeting arrow appears.
These cards are often used for:
- Self buffs
- Area effects
- Team-wide effects
Important Combat Tip About Card Descriptions
Some card descriptions currently do not behave exactly as written.
For example:
Blood Blade Technique
Description:
“Applies 7 stacks of Bleeding to all enemies.”
Because it is a non-target card, it truly affects all enemies.
Blazing Sun
Description:
“Applies 4 stacks of Burning to all enemies.”
However, this is a target-selection card.
Despite the wording, only the chosen target receives the Burning effect.
This appears to be a translation or implementation issue, so always pay attention to whether a card uses targeting arrows.
Witch’s Apocalyptic Journey is much deeper than it initially appears. The lack of tutorials makes the first few hours confusing, but once you understand the UI, card types, relic systems, and combat flow, the game becomes significantly more enjoyable.
The biggest piece of advice for new players is simple: take time to learn how cards interact with relics and blessings. Strong synergies will carry runs far more effectively than simply picking cards with the highest damage numbers.
