If you’ve just logged into Animal Hospital and immediately noticed that things look a little different, you’re not imagining it. This update isn’t just another balance patch—it refreshes several classes, introduces new lore, updates character models, and completely changes how one of the strongest classes in the game works.
After spending time looking through everything that changed, I’d say this update is much bigger than it first appears. Some changes are cosmetic, while others can completely change the way you play long shifts.
Here’s everything worth knowing.
Animal Hospital Harlow Favorite Update – Secret Agent Rework
Without a doubt, the biggest winner of this update is the Secret Agent class.
Previously, Secret Agent was already useful because of its firearm, but now it has become much more versatile thanks to several new abilities.
Level 1 Secret Agent
You now begin each round with:
- Gun (20 uses)
- Multi-Use Scanner
- +2 Inventory Capacity
The scanner is the biggest addition here. Instead of guessing whether a patient is an anomaly, you can scan them and instantly know the answer.
It isn’t unlimited—you’ll have to wait for its cooldown—but having guaranteed information can save your entire run.
Level 3 Secret Agent
At Level 3, Secret Agent becomes even stronger.
New passive bonus:
- Killing an anomaly with your gun grants:
- +4 Sanity
- +5 Cash
This sounds simple on paper, but during longer shifts it’s incredibly valuable.
Normally, sanity becomes one of the hardest resources to manage later in the game. Every anomaly you eliminate now helps restore your sanity instead of slowly draining it away.
If you’re aiming for high shift records, this bonus alone makes Secret Agent one of the strongest classes available.
How the New Scanner Works
The scanner is probably the feature everyone will be talking about.
Instead of relying entirely on visual clues, you can now scan a patient.
When scanned:
- The game confirms whether they’re an anomaly.
- The scanner then enters a cooldown (roughly two minutes).
Because of the cooldown, you won’t want to waste it on random patients.
Best Time to Use the Scanner
From testing, the best situation is during Emergency Ambulance events.
Those moments throw multiple patients at you in a short period, making it much harder to identify anomalies quickly.
Instead of guessing:
- Wait until the patients arrive.
- Scan one of them.
- Immediately identify an anomaly if one is present.
This can prevent mistakes while saving valuable time.
Outside of emergencies, it’s still useful whenever you’re unsure about a suspicious patient.
Bullet Changes
There was one noticeable nerf to Secret Agent.
The starting ammunition has been reduced.
Instead of having the previous amount, players now begin with 24 bullets (depending on class level).
Thankfully, one important mechanic remains.
You still regenerate bullets after shifts.
That means while your initial ammo count is lower, you won’t permanently lose access to your strongest tool.
Overall, this feels more like a small balance adjustment than a serious nerf.
Secret Agent Is Probably the Best Class Now
Looking at everything together:
- Scanner
- Extra inventory
- Bullet regeneration
- Sanity recovery
- Extra cash
…it becomes difficult to argue against Secret Agent being one of the strongest classes in Animal Hospital right now.
If you enjoy long survival runs or pushing high shifts, this class now offers utility, damage, and resource management all in one package.
Some players may even consider it slightly pay-to-win because of how many advantages it now provides.
Security Guard Gets New Equipment
The Security Guard class also received a useful addition.
Alongside the existing X-Taser, Security Guard now starts with a Deployable Camera.
From what we’ve seen, the camera can be placed almost anywhere around the hospital.
After placing it, you’ll be able to monitor that location through the security camera system.
While it may not seem game-changing at first, it opens up some interesting possibilities.
For example:
- Watch busy hallways while working elsewhere.
- Keep an eye on suspicious rooms.
- Monitor patients without constantly walking back and forth.
It’s more of a strategic tool than a direct power upgrade.
Character Models Have Been Updated
One thing you’ll notice before even starting a game is that many characters look cleaner.
Several classes have received visual redesigns, including:
- Nurse
- Doctor
- Surgeon
- Security Guard
- Secret Agent
- Head Nurse
The developers also kept the Classic versions of many skins.
That’s a nice touch because longtime players who prefer the older appearance don’t lose access to it.
Personally, the newer models feel more polished without completely changing each character’s identity.
Head Nurse Changes
The Head Nurse still focuses on support and inventory management.
Current perks include:
- +3 Maximum Inventory Capacity
- Start each round with a Special Technique Upgrade
While these abilities remain familiar, the class also received updated visuals along with new cosmetic options.
If you already enjoyed Head Nurse before this update, your overall playstyle shouldn’t change much.
Surgeon Visual Rework
The Surgeon has also been redesigned.
Gameplay-wise, the class appears to function similarly to before, but the updated character model gives it a much more polished appearance.
The redesign helps make the entire class roster feel more consistent.
New UI Improvements
The first thing many players noticed wasn’t actually gameplay—it was the interface.
The Animal Coin display has been refreshed with a cleaner design.
Although this doesn’t change gameplay, it makes the HUD feel less cluttered and easier to read during matches.
Sometimes small quality-of-life improvements like this make the entire game feel more polished.
New Story and Lore Content
Besides gameplay changes, the developers quietly expanded the game’s lore.
The update introduces:
- New Dr. Harlow interactions
- Additional story content
- New lore events
- A mysterious Stalker character
These additions seem connected to the existing hospital mystery.
If you’ve already explored the hidden secrets inside Room 5 or investigated the safe connected to Dr. Harlow, you’ll probably want to revisit those locations.
It looks like the developers are continuing to build the game’s storyline instead of leaving it unfinished.
There’s still plenty left for the community to discover.
This update may not introduce an entirely new map or game mode, but it meaningfully improves several parts of Animal Hospital.
The Secret Agent rework completely changes how the class is played and makes it one of the most rewarding options for players chasing high shifts. Meanwhile, the new Deployable Camera gives Security Guard more strategic value, and the refreshed character models make the game feel noticeably more polished.
On top of all that, the expanded Dr. Harlow storyline hints that the developers are continuing to build the hospital’s mystery. If you enjoy uncovering hidden secrets as much as surviving anomalies, there’s now another reason to jump back into the game.
Overall, this is one of those updates that looks small in the patch notes but feels much bigger once you actually start playing.
