Animal Hospital Scanner Guide – How to Get and Use

The Scanner is one of the newest items added to Animal Hospital, and it’s easily one of the most useful tools if you’re playing as the Secret Agent. Instead of relying only on suspicious behavior to identify anomalies, the Scanner lets you instantly verify whether a patient is dangerous.

If you’re still learning how it works, here’s everything you need to know.

Animal Hospital Scanner Guide – How to Get and Use

The Scanner is a special utility item exclusive to the Secret Agent class.

Its main purpose is simple: scan patients to reveal whether they’re a normal patient or an anomaly.

For players who struggle to identify disguised anomalies—especially during busy shifts—the Scanner can save both time and sanity.

How to Get the Scanner in Animal Hospital

You can’t purchase the Scanner by itself.

To unlock it, you’ll need to:

  • Purchase the Secret Agent class.
  • Equip the Secret Agent before starting a shift.

Once the round begins, the Scanner is automatically included in your starting equipment.

There isn’t another way to obtain it through normal gameplay.

How to Use the Scanner in Animal Hospital

Using the Scanner is very straightforward.

  1. Equip the Scanner from your inventory.
  2. Aim it toward the patient you want to inspect.
  3. Activate the Scanner.
  4. Wait for the scan to complete.

After a short beam animation, the Scanner immediately tells you whether that patient is safe or an anomaly.

It’s one of the fastest ways to confirm a suspicious patient without taking unnecessary risks.

Scanner Results Explained

The Scanner uses different colors to show the result of each scan.

Scanner Color Meaning
🟢 Green The patient is normal.
🔴 Red The patient is an anomaly.
🟡 Yellow No patient was scanned. The scan failed.

The color system is easy to understand, making the Scanner useful even during hectic moments when multiple patients are entering the hospital.

Scanner Cooldown

One important thing to remember is that the Scanner cannot be spammed.

After successfully scanning a patient, it enters a 120-second (2-minute) cooldown before it can be used again.

However, there’s one exception.

If your scan doesn’t hit any patient, the Scanner simply flashes yellow and does not trigger the cooldown. This means you won’t be punished for accidentally missing your target.

Because of the long cooldown, it’s usually best to save the Scanner for situations where you’re genuinely unsure about someone.

The Scanner may look like a simple gadget, but it adds an entirely new layer of strategy to Animal Hospital. Knowing exactly when to use it can make surviving later shifts much easier, especially when anomalies become more common and harder to identify.

If you’re planning to main the Secret Agent class, learning the Scanner’s cooldown, color indicators, and best use cases is just as important as managing your bullets. Used at the right moment, it can easily be the difference between catching an anomaly early or letting one slip through unnoticed.
