One of the biggest additions in OFF Remaster is the set of completely new optional bosses. These fights are designed as late-game challenges, testing how well you’ve mastered the updated battle system. They’re some of the hardest encounters in the game, and you’ll want to come prepared with strong gear, plenty of healing items, and smart strategies.
The best time to start tackling them is after you’ve completed Zone 3 and the purified zones become available. If they feel overwhelming at that point, progress further into The Room until right before the Queen fight. This way, you’ll have access to Zacharie and his upgraded equipment before you dive in.
Below you’ll find the full list of new bosses, where to find them, and tips on how to handle each fight.
Off Remastered All New Bosses Guide – Locations & Strategy
Boss 1 – The Source
Location: Zone 1
- Go past the old block-pushing puzzle at the metal farm.
- You’ll see the tram tracks leading east, but instead head north.
- Another, simpler block puzzle blocks your way—push through and follow the path to reach the boss.
Battle Tips:
- The Source starts by setting up regeneration, then inflicts a party-wide Poison-like status using thorny plants.
- The fight is manageable at this stage, so focus on heavy offense before it builds up too much momentum.
Boss 2 – Maldicion
Location: Zone 2
- From the library area, turn left and return to the theme park.
- Continue through the straightforward path until you reach the boss arena.
Battle Tips:
- Maldicion’s main mechanic is the Impure status, which creates an elemental weakness on whoever it affects.
- Pay attention to the battle messages—“Smoke forms around Maldicion” means they are weak to Smoke, for example.
- You can also test attacks to reveal the weakness. Use the right element to cut through quickly.
Boss 3 – Heriditus & Herodotus (The Lying Fish)
Location: Zone 3
- Play through until you jump down the silo.
- Enter the furnace room below and look for a hidden ladder leading down into a new area.
Battle Tips:
- Their fight revolves around three mechanics:
- Vilified: disables all skills for your entire party. You can’t block this.
- Defamed / Subterfuge: causes one party member to score guaranteed crits. Don’t use that character during this phase—once the effect ends, they’ll take massive punishment based on the damage they dealt, with splash damage hitting your team.
- Minions: summoned helpers. Two of them are nearly invincible and never crit—ignore them. Focus on the critting minion, which can be damaged normally. Killing it wipes out the whole group.
- The key to surviving is restraint. Don’t overcommit damage during the Subterfuge phase, or your party can be wiped out instantly.
Boss 4 – Justus
Location: The Room
- Once you’ve beaten the first three bosses, a new staircase appears near the entrance of The Room (to the right side of the save cube).
- Descend to find Justus.
Battle Tips:
- Justus fights using moves known by The Batter and his Add-Ons.
- There’s no unusual gimmick—just a straightforward but tough duel. Come prepared with strong healing and buffs.
Boss 5 – Carnival
Location: World Map
- After defeating Justus, a swirling portal appears in the upper-left of the world map.
- Enter it to reach a clifftop where Carnival awaits.
Battle Tips:
- Carnival cycles through “Game of X” attacks, imitating the styles of the previous new bosses with stronger versions.
- Watch its moves to anticipate which pattern is active.
- Sometimes attacking results in a “WINNER!” message where a party member gets a “prize.” This boosts their action bar by around 50%, giving you a speed advantage.
Boss 6 – Cob
Location: The Room (Finale)
- This fight is only available after the Point of No Return. Save beforehand.
- Defeat Vader Eloha as normal, then continue forward.
- Before Hugo’s room, a staircase will appear on the left (only if you’ve defeated the other five bosses). Descend to face Cob.
Battle Tips:
Cob has a strict but punishing pattern:
- Heals about 120 HP.
- Deals a party-wide attack hitting roughly half of everyone’s HP.
- Chooses a party member to “watch.”
- Applies Vilify to your party (this version disables both skills and items).
- Grants the watched member a small heal.
- Casts Ionosphere, instantly blasting the watched member for several thousand damage.
How to Handle It:
- Have Alpha attempt to poison Cob to counteract his healing.
- Epsilon should buff allies’ attack—defense buffs aren’t useful due to how his skills scale.
- Accept that Ionosphere is essentially a one-hit kill—rotate healing and revives carefully to stay in the fight.
- Keep throwing Fortune Tickets and using Save Third Base when possible.
Defeating Cob rewards you with pillar artwork of the zodiac-themed bosses, serving as your ultimate prize for conquering the remaster’s toughest challenges.
The new bosses in OFF Remaster are brutal, creative, and a true test of your patience and strategy. Tackling them after purifying the zones and gearing up from Zacharie will give you the best chance at survival.
If you manage to overcome all six, you’ll not only see some of the most interesting new content the game has to offer, but also prove you’ve mastered the battle system in its entirety.
