Black Stars are the most cryptic secrets in Berry Bury Berry. None of them are part of normal progression, most of them require specific upgrades, and several deliberately break the game’s own logic to test whether you are paying attention. This Berry Bury Berry Black Star Guide explains every Black Star, what you need beforehand, and the exact steps to unlock each one without guesswork.
This guide assumes you are already in the late game and have access to most upgrades.
Tile Puzzle Star
This is usually the first Black Star players encounter.
You need to throw blueberries onto the floor panels to reveal hidden images. Each image has a matching pair. The goal is to correctly match all pairs.
The important thing to know is that you are allowed zero mistakes. If you reveal a mismatched pair, the puzzle locks and you must wait for the next in-game day for it to reset.
Once all pairs are matched correctly, the puzzle completes and rewards you with:
- A Black Star
- The computer password, which is required later for other stars
If you are attempting other Black Stars, do this one early.
Radio Math Star
This puzzle causes the most confusion, mostly because the logic is explained poorly in-game.
Requirements
- Upgraded sledgehammer
- Walls around the computer room destroyed
Smashing the walls reveals numbers written on the walls and hints referring to the radio. The key rule written on the wall is:
“Always add first.”
The radio has two buttons:
- Right button = add
- Left button = subtract
You must input a sequence of button presses that satisfies the wall numbers, always applying addition before subtraction.
Correct Button Sequence (Confirmed Working)
Ignore conflicting explanations. This sequence works reliably:
- Right ×2
- Left ×2
- Right ×1
- Left ×3
- Right ×2
- Left ×1
In short form:
RR LL R LLL RR L
Before starting, it is recommended to press reset on the radio.
Completing the sequence correctly unlocks:
- The Black Star
- A cassette tape
Smoothie Star
This one is deceptively strict and easy to mess up.
Requirements
- Third sledgehammer upgrade
- Chainsaw upgrade
- Tile Puzzle Star completed
- Computer password obtained
Break through the third wall layer until you reach the smoothie stand.
On the computer, you will find a document describing the perfect smoothie recipe. You must shred the following ingredients on the chainsaw. Order does not matter, but quantities do.
Required Ingredients
- 5 Blueberries (half a juice meter)
- 3 Strawberries
- 1 Kiwi
- 1 Peach
Once blended correctly, carry the smoothie to the stand.
This unlocks:
- The Black Star
- Additional lore (a receipt is unblurred)
Incorrect ingredient counts will not work.
Trophy Star
This is a late-game, patience-based Black Star.
Requirements
- Bubble upgrade
- Pumpkin Berry Buddy
- Walls around computer room fully destroyed
- Golden berry upgrades recommended
Fly to the trophy room, located to the right of the computer building, accessible through a cutout.
Inside are pedestals with silhouettes. Each pedestal requires a golden version of a specific berry.
This does not need to be done in one day. You can place berries across multiple days.
Once all pedestals are filled, the star unlocks and additional lore is revealed.
Tip: Upgrading golden berry chance and berry picker speed saves a lot of time.
Push Pin Stars
This puzzle is visual and abstract on purpose.
In the final wall layer, on the left side of the computer room, you will find:
- One large blue push pin
- Several small red push pins
- Multiple colored shapes with tomato pin cushions
You must use the hole to reveal how many red pins exist between each colored shape and the large blue pin.
For each colored shape:
- Count the pins between it and the blue pin
- Enter that number using the shape’s tomato pincushion
Once all values are entered correctly, interact with the large blue push pin.
If correct, the Black Star unlocks.
If you are stuck, using a visual solution reference is strongly recommended, as trial-and-error is extremely slow.
Taxi Star
This is one of the simpler Black Stars.
In the final layer, directly across from the computer room, there is a clock next to a star door. At certain times, a yellow taxi appears, pauses briefly, then clips back through the wall.
How to Get the Star
- Move the hole into the taxi’s path
- Ensure your hole is large enough to swallow cars
- Wait for the taxi to drive into the hole
When the taxi falls in, the Black Star unlocks immediately.
Final Star (Hardest Black Star)
This is the most unintuitive puzzle in the game.
Behind the computer room, in the final layer, is a hidden gap marked by the same floating star symbol as other Black Star locations.
Steps to Reach the Area
- Move the hole between the final wall and the secret room
- Use the bubble to float underneath and up through the gap
Inside is an infinite hallway. Walking forward will never work.
The Trick
You must:
- Turn around
- Walk backwards, facing the green wall
Eventually, you reach a flower.
Touching the flower does not unlock the star.
After being teleported back outside:
- Pop the bubble outside the entrance
Only then will:
- The Black Star unlock
- The achievement register correctly
Missing the bubble step will fail the unlock.
