Directive 8020 Anomaly Log Number Puzzle Guide (Episode 5)

If you are playing Directive 8020 and get stuck during Episode 5, “Mr. Williams,” you are not alone. One of the more confusing moments in this chapter involves the Orbital Scanner Data terminal, which asks for a four-digit Anomaly Log Number.

At first glance, the puzzle feels like it should involve finding a hidden numeric code somewhere nearby. But the solution is actually based on letter positions in the alphabet, which makes it easy to overlook if you are rushing through the area.

This guide explains exactly where to find the clue, how the puzzle works, and the correct code needed to continue.

Where to Find the Orbital Scanner Data Terminal

The puzzle takes place during the “Radio Silence” section in Bridge Ops.

Once you arrive in the area, head toward the staircase marked with the glowing cyan signage. Go upstairs and look for the wall-mounted terminal labeled Orbital Scanner Data.

Interacting with it will reveal that the system requires a four-digit Anomaly Log Number before access is granted.

At this point, the game does not immediately explain where the code comes from, which is why many players start searching nearby rooms randomly.

Where to Find the Puzzle Clue

The clue is hidden very close to the terminal.

From the Orbital Scanner Data station, continue through the nearby corridor leading into the cockpit area. Inside the cockpit, look toward the left side near the chair.

You will find a small note containing the letters:

CAIF

This is the key to solving the puzzle.

How the Puzzle Works

The clue is not meant to be read as a word. Instead, it uses alphabet positions.

Each letter corresponds to its numerical place in the alphabet:

  • C = 3
  • A = 1
  • I = 9
  • F = 6

When combined together, the final code becomes:

Anomaly Log Number Code

3196

Enter this code into the Orbital Scanner Data terminal to complete the puzzle and continue the sequence.

If you get stuck on other puzzles in Directive 8020, always pay attention to small notes, wall markings, and environmental details nearby. The game frequently hides solutions in plain sight rather than using obvious objective markers.
