The 1.0 release of Escape the Backrooms (October 23, 2025) has introduced several brand-new levels, alternative endings, and a new hub area that changes the game’s entire progression system.
This Escape the Backrooms 1.0 New Levels focuses exclusively on the new content — how to reach, complete, and understand each of these recently added stages.
If you’ve already finished the “main game” before this update (up to Level 55.1), you’re ready to jump straight into the new levels and endings.
Escape the Backrooms 1.0 New Levels Guide (October 2025)
This isn’t a full walkthrough of Escape the Backrooms. Instead, it focuses only on post-1.0 content — the new branches, alternate routes, and endings added in the major October update.
If you need the base game walkthrough, you can refer to the older “Main Walkthrough” (covering Levels 0–55.1). This guide assumes you’ve:
- Reached the Alternative Ending cutscene where the camera drops.
- Accessed the new post-game area known as the New Hub (The Bunker).
The goal here is to walk you through:
How to reach the new hub and branching levels
What the new mechanics do (badge scanning, new elevators, alternate paths)
Step-by-step explanations for newly added levels:
- Kitty’s House (Level 974)
- Athlete’s Foot (Unnamed sublevel)
- Botanical Garden
- The Main Ending Room (Level 3999)
Post-game content: The Center Mode
How to Reach the New Levels
After the Main Playthrough
Once you’ve completed the original game and triggered the camera drop cutscene, the screen will fade into a sequence where your character wakes up in a Bunker — this is your New Hub.
Here you’ll encounter:
- A badge scanner (new mechanic)
- A dual elevator with upper and lower buttons
- Two wooden planks displaying connected level paths
The plank maps show all your completed levels and the possible transitions between them — for example, how Level 188 links to sublevel !~! or how Level 1 now branches differently.
Elevator Controls Explained
The elevator in the New Hub serves as your fast travel system:
- Button H (Hub): Returns you to the original Hub area.
- Button B (Bunker/Base): Transports you to the New Hub.
- Button 3999: Unlocks the secret final ending level — only available after collecting all four alternate endings.
You’ll revisit several familiar areas, such as the Parking Lot (Level 1) and Dark Corridor (Level 6), both of which now contain hidden access routes to new content.
If you’re missing the Level 7 door connection, you can alternatively re-enter through Level 94, 37, 4, or even 1 — whichever hub access is closest.
Once you’ve replayed Level 94 and jumped down the stairwell, you’ll trigger one of the alternate endings, unlocking more routes in the New Hub.
Level 974 – Kitty’s House
How to Access
Return to Level 6 (the dark LIDAR corridor). You’ll be given a LIDAR scanner again — don’t worry if you lost your equipment earlier, it’s restored automatically.
Once you find the exit, you’ll transition into Level 974, known as Kitty’s House.
Lore & Description
This level references the old Backrooms Wiki entry for Kitty, described as a tall, black humanoid creature supposedly “friendly.”
That’s a lie. Kitty in this version is extremely hostile — behaving almost identically to SCP-173.
He doesn’t move while being watched but will instantly attack the moment you turn away.
Stay focused on him at all times and don’t blink too long — he moves fast and unpredictably.
Objective
The entire level revolves around collecting 12 glowing teddy bears scattered across the two-story house and seating them on the chairs near the stage.
Step-by-Step:
Search both floors for bears — their glowing eyes make them easy to spot even in the dark.
Pick them up and press F while looking at the stage to seat them.
Keep constant eye contact with Kitty during movement; if you look away, he will close the distance.
After all 12 bears are seated, the stage lights will ignite in a circular pattern.
Step onto the lit stage — this triggers a short cutscene where Kitty acknowledges your completion.
You’ll then automatically be returned to the New Hub.
Athlete’s Foot (Unnamed Sublevel)
Once back in the New Hub, take the door with the badge scanner. This leads to a new, industrial sublevel — possibly a derivative of Level 0.
The area is filled with metallic corridors, steam pipes, and wounded M.E.G. operatives.
Objective
You need to restore pressure by adjusting a series of pipe valves and pulling levers deeper in the facility.
To access these:
- Navigate through the lower tunnels until you find a control room with a large window facing the pipe grid.
- Collect M.E.G. survivors (NPCs or items representing them).
- Sacrifice them to unlock the next sector.
Be cautious: the corridors are infested with Bacteria entities — at least three confirmed even in solo mode. They patrol fixed routes.
Tips:
- Dropping (Crouch/Sprint) releases M.E.G. survivors automatically.
- Bacteria don’t consume the bodies, so use them as distractions when needed.
- Once all pipes are cleared, a vent or drop point opens, leading to the next stage.
Botanical Garden
After exiting the industrial tunnels, you’ll awaken in a lush, overgrown environment — the Botanical Garden.
A faint voice warns: “Don’t just stand there.”
This is literal advice — standing still for too long will trigger vines that emerge from the grass and strangle you.
Objective
- Keep moving constantly; idle moments trigger instant death.
- Navigate through the garden paths until you locate an elevator.
- Enter the elevator to trigger the Level 11 Alternate Ending cutscene.
You’ll then return once more to the New Hub.
The Main Ending – Level 3999
Once you’ve completed all four alternate endings, return to the New Hub’s elevator and press Button 3999.
You’ll enter a sealed control room featuring multiple terminals and monitors displaying the endings you’ve unlocked.
When all four lights are active, the central machine becomes accessible.
Insert the coin and interact to initiate the final cutscene, followed by the credits sequence.
Congratulations — you’ve officially completed Escape the Backrooms (1.0).
The Center Mode
After the ending, you may notice an unexplained menu option labeled “The Center.”
This isn’t a new story chapter but rather a challenge mode designed for both solo and co-op play.
In Center Mode, players can:
- Choose any unlocked level
- Race to complete it under specific parameters
- Earn a performance score based on:
- Completion time
- Deaths
- Sanity loss
Scores grant experience points that level up your lobby badge, though this feature is purely cosmetic for now.
Essentially, The Center acts as an Any% speedrun mode built into the main game — a great way to practice or replay levels with friends without resetting progress.
That wraps up everything currently known about the new levels introduced in the 1.0 update of Escape the Backrooms.
From Kitty’s House to the Botanical Garden, these additions expand both the lore and complexity of the Backrooms universe — blending eerie atmosphere with experimental gameplay loops.
